I have debated this with some Trekker buddies, but if YOU were in charge of developing a new Star Trek series, where would you start it? What timeline? Which race or political entity would be your primary characters? Be creative, have some fun!

Me personally, I'd start it on Cardassia say 5 years after the Dominion War ended, and deal with a rebuilding Cardassia, their relations with the Breen, the Federation, and Bajor.

One of my friends suggested the Enterprise B, and it's adventures.

What do you think?

Not that I've given it much thought :freak: but my concept would be a rotating anthology series - four different Trek series set in four different time periods, with four different casts and crews. Each week, they switch, so each one basically has an episode a month.

And, obviously your friend is very smart. ;)

Honestly? I'd give it a rest. Ten years should be long enough hiatus for me to want to see more Trek. Since that won't possible, I suppose have JJ Abrams take a stab at it is my second best choice.

I doubt it will take that much of a hiatus. The Trek franchise has been on the air continually for 18 years now (Next Gen started 1987, Enterprise ended 2005), and spawned 4 movies durring that time. It is a huge cash cow, and Paramount will milk it for all its worth.

Plus, in what is becomming an increasingly depressing world, I think people need a hopeful vision of mankind's future more than ever!

Hey, does this soapbox make me look taller?

I think after the movie, you'll see a new series in th works before long, but where? There are SOOOO many great starting points or undeveloped plot threads the writers left over the years. Keep the ideas comming!

Tales of the Fleet sounds a lot like the Anthology suggestion I raised last year. The formula has been too similar over most of the past shows. I think an anthology where stories are told from the Federation's point of view, Klingon/Romulan/Aliens points of view, and really get into the variety that could be offered like with the Twilight Zone.

Stories could be told from the past/present/future perspectives as well as other dimensions.

Yeah, but I thought of it first! :D

Great minds, great minds....

At the very least, after the movie, I'd like to see a closure of the episode with the Guardian of Forever. It's just too dangerous to leave that time portal in place with so many enemies of the Federation. I'd like a movie where the thing is studied, learn more about the race that created it, and how to resolve it's existance to protect the future.

^That would be interesting.

According to the novel Imzadi, the Federation set up a research station around the Guardian and is studying it, and guarding the Guardian well.

If you take a glance at the Fan Produced Trek Phase II (very cool if you remember these people are not getting paid, but doing this as a labor of love!), they do a story arc with the Guardian in it!

Hey, you asked what I would do with the franchise if I could, not what I would do that's realistic. Besides, it's obvious my preference won't come true given the current movie.

True, I did ask!:p What would be your preference? Or was that a hiatus?

Granted this isn't the question of this thread, but what's wrong with developing a new series about space exploration that has nothing to do with shows we already know? I'd personally like to see someone else's ideas for a change.

The novel Crucible: McCoy (great read, BTW) has the Guardian being blown to kingdom come when a Klingon battlecruiser does a suicide run on it - Klingons being Klingons, they think it's a Federation weapon...

I did, and I'll eternally regret it.

Thankfully, their last couple of productions have actually been good.
