View Full Version : Summer Carpet Oval Series @ Fastlane
BIGCHUCK 05-07-2008, 04:10 PM Summer is approaching and here in the western part of the Midwest most racing action moves outdoors. But I know there are some diehard carpet oval racers who wish they could continue to race.
Fastlane Raceway and Hobbies, sponsor of the 2007-2008 BRL 10.5 ProMod class, is trying to determine how much interest there would be in a SUMMER CARPET OVAL SERIES.
We're looking at one day events on Saturdays. The dates below have been selected to avoid direct conflicts with other known oval events in our area. There are 2 conflicts I'm aware of. One with Storm Steel on June 7th and one with Marshalltown on August 2nd. But moving a week or so won't resolve the conflicts so we'd have to live with them.
From the standpoint of Fastlane, we're interested in holding the series. We'd plan on awards at the end of the series and a BBQ party at the end as well. But I'm interested in learning how much interest there really would be in our part of the world for indoor oval in the summer (as a side note, the track has A/C) . I'd hate to have guys travel a distance and have too few racers in total because guys have too many other things to do. I already know that turnout for May 17th would probably be "light".
So I'd be interested in feedback to determine the level of interest in the series. The basics are:
- Brl rules except we'd allow Lipo's similar to the way HobbyPlex does it (21.5/LiPo = 13.5/Nimh; (17.5/LiPo = 10.5/LiPo).
- 7 race series - best 4 count towards points championship
Race Dates:
May 17th, June 7th, June 21st, July 19th, August 2nd, August 16th, Sept 6th
How about a "show of hands" to determine the interest?
Thanks,
Big Chuck
Chuck you know I'd be up for the BBQ. LOL
Between Storm Steel, Marshalltown and Silvas dirt oval that is about all I can handle.
Good Luck,
AJ
Mr.Wolfman 05-07-2008, 05:59 PM Chuck just too much dirt oval to pull out the rug stuff.
keep me in mind for another big race at Fastlane though, great time, well except for the broken chassis.
give my best to the crew, wolfman
BIGCHUCK 05-09-2008, 10:39 AM Okay, we're going to give this a try.
For all you oval racers suffering from summertime withdrawal from carpet racing, Fastlane Raceway & Hobbies in Blue Springs, MO will be holding a Summer Carpet Oval Series. The Series will consist of 6 one-day events on Saturdays with your best 4 finishes counting towards the Series points championship. There will be awards and a BBQ dinner following the final Series event in September. The pit area and track will be air conditioned.
We'll follow BRL rules except that we will allow ROAR approved Lipo batteries (21.5 / Lipo runs 13.5 class; 17.5 / Lipo runs 10.5 class). Lipo cars must meet BRL weight rules. If there is interest we'll also run our "house" FasTruck class (4wd TC with 4 cells and 13.5 BL or 27t BR motors; or 21.5 BL/ Lipo) and Losi Sliders.
Race Dates:
June 7th, June 21st, July 19th, August 2nd, August 16th, Sept 6th
Hope to see ya at the races.....

BIGCHUCK 05-28-2008, 12:29 PM The first race for Fastlane's Summer Carpet Oval Series is fast approaching. June 7th will be here before you know it. Here's a recap:
- BRL rules apply unless noted otherwise
- We're sure we'll have 13.5 and 17.5 competitors. 10.5 and 13.5 truck will depend on turnout.
- We'll also run our local track classes
- ROAR approved Lipo's are allowed with the following equivalency: 21.5 / 2S Lipo = 13.5 / 4 cell Nimh; 17.5 / 2S Lipo=10.5 / 4 cell Nimh
- Track opens at 10 AM. Qualifying starts at 1 PM.
Hope to see some of you carpet oval racers who are starved for action....

See you guys at the next race.
Sonny B 06-23-2008, 03:09 PM I don't think the results are correct. It shows Mike Kelm in an A-Main. :D
BIGCHUCK 06-23-2008, 03:11 PM Well we did run everyone with a 13.5 in the A. Maybe that's the reason....
Also, I don't know who Mike Kraft is in LM. That's really Kelm also.
Mayhem Racing 07-13-2008, 04:13 AM Next Race Next Weekend:woohoo::woohoo:
MK Race 07-14-2008, 05:16 PM We'll be there again. I'm looking for 2 Amains in a row.:woohoo:

BIGCHUCK 07-15-2008, 11:34 PM Mike,
Glad we'll see you Saturday but you better bring the kid. He's the guy we really want to see!

BIGCHUCK 07-20-2008, 02:16 PM Here is the link to the results of Round 3 of the Fastlane Summer Carpet Oval Series: http://www.fastlanehobby.com/results/?id=346
Two wild and crazy A mains, 7 cars in Losi Late Model and 9 in 13.5 Super Stock! Congrats to the winners; Alan Jones, Jason Jackson and some guy named Big Chuck (thanks Josh!).
I'll have updated points posted sometime tomorrow.
Thanks to everyone who came out. Hope you had a great time.
Big Chuck
MK Race 07-20-2008, 11:18 PM We had a great time again Saturday. 9 car A-main was interesting. The first half of it was awesome.
Yep Sonny, I was in another A-main.:)
trailranger 07-21-2008, 01:38 AM I'll get around to posting the Video of the main, for about 2 1/2 minutes the racing was bumper to bumper
Mayhem Racing 07-23-2008, 01:10 AM Looks to be some good air at the 2:30 mark

BIGCHUCK 07-25-2008, 10:26 AM Alright, so it isn't Tuesday when I said I'd post the points update. But here we go.
First; just like in NASCAR, race management (that'd be me) has reviewed the timing information and video from the last 13.5 A Main and determined that Andrew did lose a lap when he soared over the timing loop on his way out of the track. Hand timing from the video shows the crash resulted in an 8 second lap (not a 12 second lap as on the timing printout). Also, the video clearly shows Andrew was back on the track before Jason put him a lap down. Since the video lets us see what happened, we don't have to speculate on whether he lost a lap or not.
So I've adjusted the results accordingly. This moves Andrew to second place and Bob Williams to third. No one else was affected by the change. I would not have made this change without the video evidence. So Andrew can thank Josh (and Bob can curse him)
Now for the points. Points calculated according to the BRL formula. All races included up to this point.

See you this winter,

BIGCHUCK 07-29-2008, 02:21 PM Dusty,
Good to see you as well. I'm sure we'll see each other somewhere at the races this winter.
As for the race, it was a little better than 6 F1 cars parading around. I'm threatening to run our next carpet oval race the same way; as a series of six 10 lap sprints.
See ya at the races...

http://www.fastlanehobby.com/results/?id=352
We had a small turnout this week but some great racing action. Chuck and Jason battled for TQ in 13.5 every round and had a great race for most of the A Main. Josh took his first win in the series in FasTruck. And Shane made a late pass for the win in Late Model.
Welcome to Steve Lock who made his first appearance in the series.
Hope everyone had a great time.
Here is the points update after 4 rounds. Now the fun really begins as the final standings will depend on a racer's best 4 finishes out of the 6 races.

BIGCHUCK 08-11-2008, 10:39 AM Round 5 of our Summer Carpet Oval Series is this Saturday, Aug 16th. Hope to see all the guys from the St Louis and Springfield areas along with our regulars. The points chase is heating up.
Track will open at 9:30 AM on Saturday. First round of qualifying scheduled for 1 PM.
See ya at the races......
MK Race 08-11-2008, 08:57 PM Looks like maybe 4 of us plus the "Kid".
Can't wait to run the new chassis. 61 here we come.
Mike hope your mother is ok.
What new chassis?
Remember the KOTH
MK Race 08-12-2008, 07:37 AM Thanks AJ. Mom is doing a lot better and hope she will be coming home sometime next week.
I've got one of the Pro-Built chassis.
I do plan on making the KOTH race.
jake86 08-13-2008, 03:24 PM Chuck,
Are we still on for 17.5? If so I need to get the second car ready.
BIGCHUCK 08-13-2008, 03:59 PM I'll be there. If we have at least a couple guys to run 17.5, that's what I'll run. If not, I'll be in the way during the 13.5 races.:p
Is that enough incentive to get a second car ready?
Maybe MK will join us and run a second car in 17.5 or put one together for Andrew? I was worried about how fast MK'd be in 13.5 with his new Pro Built ride. But then I saw he was already asking Frank about modifying it. So I figure he'll just screw up what Frank built and run about like normal.
See ya Saturday.....
jake86 08-13-2008, 04:44 PM I think Mike put he car together not Frank so you know it will be all screwed up from the start. I'm not worry about Kelm I'm more worried about out running Andrew.
MK Race 08-13-2008, 08:50 PM Hey you guys are starting to sound like the French. You saw what happened to the trash talking French swimmers.:D
Curt H 08-13-2008, 09:47 PM WOW no love for MK?
