How do you install a 13mm rotor in a 17.5 motor. The motor made a very loud windy sound...

Can Anyone help!

The sound is normal I would go back to the reg rotor I saw no improvment using the tuning rotor in a 17.5 in fact IMO the stock rotor was faster...

don't belive it is legal either here in indiana to run one.brl rules states no 13mm rotors.

I am a little confused with this post. I have (5) 17.5 SS Pro Motors and everyone of them came with the sintered rotor installed. I have freely swapped rotors between 17.5 and 13.5

It appears the 13mm rotor makes a different sound than the 12.3mm rotor, therefore, L4OvalRacer thought he put the rotor in wrong. Could be wrong though.

The sintered rotor is a 12.3 mm rotor. The 13 mm is another one. I believe is was made mostly for touring car. Some have tried it in oval pan car with no big improvement. Save the money for food!!!

I have found that the 13mm rotor has allowed the motors to run cooler with a little more torque. I can gear up about 1 to 2 teeth with the bigger rotor. When I ran 3.5 and 8.5 pan car it helped out. I haven't tried on the 13.5 yet. Is it worth the extra money ...probably not. If you are close to the same speed as everybody else early you may see a little more pull at the end of a run if you have the 13mm.

Taylor, there's nothing special to do. Just make sure you use the sleeve that it came with to allign the shaft with the center of the bearing. Bring it over next weekend and I will look at it.

BRL rules don't apply here when it comes to the rotor.

It's sad that different places can't kinda stay on the same page w/ the rotor rules in the slower classes...if I buy a used 17.5 or 21.5 and find in TECH that it has a 13mm instead of a 12.3mm I'm gonna be PISSED.

From all I understand the 13mm (LARGER) rotor actually slows down the RPM, which is why it works on the HOTTER motors...it makes them more controllable. The 17.5 motor (especially w/ 4 cell) is already pretty LOW in the RPM range, and the % difference is probably a lot smaller.

Well sorry Swtour but thats not my fault. I really would like to have the 12.3mm rotor but thats what i got at the hobby shop..

L4, did you have a rotor go bad or something? (Why was it changed?) The 17.5's all COME with a 12.3mm sintered rotor as standard equip.
