View Full Version : Who said O-Chassis cars were dogs?
Pete McKay 05-03-2008, 10:40 PM Full night of racing tonight as we continue to "break-in" the cars that will be used 3 weeks for the kids race. The Hicks Brothers, Yoshi, Scragler and his girlfriend and myself divi'd up the 28 available cars and ran the old sprint car program at Sequoia Speedways new home....my spare bedroom. :) ...at least it fits.
An O-Chassis Monte Carlo (the 4T Kodak duplicate car) set fast qualifying time at 1.03 and then went from the C Main all the way to win the show in a 25 lap 4-lane slug fest. Of the top five, three of them were O-Chassis cars. The as yet undecorated T-Chassis #15 car of Michael Waltrip finished second, and set the fastest race lap of 1.03 during the A Main. The best Ford was 6th, with the #28 of Ricky Rudd being driven by yours truely.
I had a feeling in the short races when tires were clean that the O's would run with the T's just fine. The 25 lap A Main actually took 31 laps to complete counting restarts and the tires were starting to go away at the very end. I think this is the program we'll run for the kids since it lets more kids run but have shorter racers.
FullyLoaded 05-04-2008, 01:23 AM What exactly is the O-Chassis? Original Life-Like Fast Tracker or something else?
Pete McKay 05-04-2008, 01:38 AM Lifelike cars. The O-Chassis (O for original) has a conventional inline motor design with replaceable components. You can upgrade the cars armature, burshes and magnets to some degree. The T-Chassis is an open can design with smaller slab motor magnets, but the chassis has two round neo dots just in front of the rear axle.
The O-Chassis cars tend to be loose in the corners. Some drivers like that and the cars can be drifted much better than the T cars. They have greater torque and possibly top end, but my track is small and they don't get a chance to take a full breath.
The T cars tend to push. The neo magnets hold tight and the front end will wash out before the back breaks out most of the time. When they do spin it is a violent snap and often close to a 360 spin. We've had cars do a complete 360 and never deslot. If you stay in the throttle then we call that a Jean-Pierre Sarti spin. if you've seen Grand Prix, then you know the line. "When I see something really horrible, I put my foot down. Hard! Because I know that everyone else is lifting his." Everyone lifts thinking you've crashed, then you pretty much drive away from them.

Some also refer to it as the M chassis.

Yeah, wasn't it the Rokar M-Car or something? M-5?
Never paid any attention to LifeLike so i don't really know for sure.
AfxToo 05-04-2008, 04:33 PM Yeah, that's the Rokar/LL M chassis. They were killer in SS a decade ago back when Super Gs were considered Modified. I like the M chassis. Never heard anyone refer to it as the O chassis however. Must be a left coast thing.
RiderZ 05-04-2008, 05:02 PM I too prefer the "M" chassis over the "T" chassis.:)

Agreed. I've picked up a bunch for the kids to race with. They seem to run better and stay on the track as well as they drive like a bat out of you know where. Only bad thing is the shoes get used up fast. rr
neorules 05-04-2008, 09:03 PM Cordoba--- seeing as Lifelike is now in Milwaukee you should support your hometown company. If you can, you, as well as anyone interested can come and race in the first annual Lifelike Cup Race held at Lucky Bob's during the HOPRA Nationals. It will be held Thursday June 12th at 6:30 p.m. Entry fee is ten dollars which includes T-chassis car which you keep. Life like has also provided other great prizes for the race.

Sounds like fun but I am racing in our summer sports car league somewhere else that night.
Hopefully Walthers will branch LL out into sports cars and Indy cars more -- the NASCAR stuff leaves me cold.
Slott V 05-05-2008, 11:38 AM The M5 Rokar/Lifelike chassis is a great chassis but they are hard to tune consistently and have heat soak issues. Fast outta the gate but not much for stamina. Was a great design that was affordable.

Some folks have experienced a tad of frustration with tuning these in the past... :drunk:

SLot V what size sledge hammer do you prefer tuning them with?

M-5 was a computer in the 55th episode of Star Trek:p

Ha, that one was "detuned" with a Colt Revolver by a friend in Iowa.
Pete McKay 05-05-2008, 03:47 PM "Bullet Resistant"
I had those Rokar cars way back when, never made the connection. I was running a T-Chassis with a lexan body and silicones last night, turning 0.88 second laps. Wide open all the way around, I think I'd need about 18 volts to make it more interesting.
Most of these cars will be gone after the community center race, and we'll be looking at replacing those with Fusions, Monte Carlos and the new Dodges. I've seen test shots of the CoT's, they even have the Toyota's so that will be cool. We'll retire all of the old body styles and use the used chassis for parts when the new cars start showing up.
BRS Hobbies 05-05-2008, 04:59 PM Pete,
Where did you see the test shots of the new LL COT? How do they look?
Best regards,
Brian

Trying to find the image of the Toyota, I didn't bookmark it but they don't look too bad, better then the last release of the "turtle" shapes. I also looked closely at the box art on the Walthers site, I know they're edited heavily but the Toyota looked close to the shot I saw. I've heard everything from a June to August release.
