just carged the battery tryed to start but it will not go past compresion stroke the engine hits compresion and the starter is unable to start the engine the customer has told me the battery would not charge i found this problen ( blown fuse ) so customer has been starting the machine wth a starter pack the engine is fitted to a ransoms triple gang mower for a golf club any advice will be agreat help i was thinking may be starter, or decompresor on cam shaft but as i have never worked on this type of engine before i am working blind?

Check that all battery connections are clean and tight. Remove the spark plug(s) from the engine and see if the starter will spin the engine freely, if so then you may be on the right track with the compression release not working. This could be due to valves needing adjustment, check the valve lash to see if you have too much clearance.

Post model and type of engine and someone will get you the specs for the valves if you don't already have that info. :thumbsup:

battery is good did a drop test just to check will get more information when i go back to the golf course thanks guys for your info

Check the starter also, Pull the starter off and see if the starter drive shaft has any wiggle in the bearings if their is enough wiggle their then it will bind and make starting difficult.

thanks for that i intend to remove the starter but to get the starter out i have to remove the engine ( the engine is bolted to the frame then gards have been welded around it so i can not get the starter out with the engine in situe) a stright forward job made more dificult by a bodger
