View Full Version : Can Rotors and Motors be Dyno'd

I was thinking is it possible to use a slave motor dyno like the Tekin 900 Dyno to check rotor and motor strength.

The slave motor will have to be wired to the dyno motor side. The brushless motor will have wired to the slave side using rectfier diodes. (Flipped to what is normal to a Brushed test)

To test rotors, the same brushless core will be used on each test ( I am sure there is some old or unused Novaks in your pitbox). Since the slave motor and input votage to the slave motor are also constant any change in the numbers on the dyno are results in the change of the rotor.

To test motors, same test as the rotors, but the the core and rotor are changed.

Anyfeed back? I don't have a slave motor dyno. It was just something I thought up as a "poor-boys" way of using old pit equipment to test brushless rotors and motors.

put motor in car,get rollout close, work on tire and set-up.. Motors are so close nowadays especially for club racing..

But if you must guy's are using old fantoms, which are really cheap, and the turbo dyno as well, you just need a dedicated speed controller..

sounds like a plan. but the Zubbie meter speaks and I'm cheap

Keep in mind the Zubie meter only checks the strength of the magnets, which is only one aspect of the motor. It does not tell you how the motor performs under a load.

Josh iv got the setup on a fantom.

Bring on the Fantom Menence...
I would almost not want to know how my motor performs. This way I can always blame the "motor" not the driver for the slow performance.

someone tell me how you are using the fantom dyno for brushless?

You need to hook up a full system; motor/speedo, receiver with rec pack for power. Hit the button, full throttle and test on.

The Fantom can work. Some have tested with each speedo they have to find the one with the most power. Wish I still had mine LOL

so do I hook up the motor to the dyno itself or what. Sorry for the lack of understanding, any and all advice needed. Thanks!
