Racers, I'm pround to announce that after great success pioneering the 1st Speed Meter, I have been able to further advance the engineering of the meter. One of which I've eliminated the costly$ Prob-Stick which has allowed me to lower the price on the meter, that I now can pass along to you the racer! For those of you who own the 1st Speed Meter, The numbers on the New Meter2 will be calibrated to get close to yours, Another trick feature on the meter is once you place the rotor on the tuning cradle, with a slight roll of the rotor it will automatically self center it self to the strongest part of the rotor giving you your Highest reading your rotor has to offer! And finally, I designed this new meter so that it will do multipal brand rotors. For dealer inquiries and any questions, e-mail me at bigjohnzubak@speedjuice.com The SPEEDMETER2 sell's for $159.00, For more info go to: www.speedjuice.com

Looks awsome Big john.. I own the first one and thinks it's great. I was wondering if you know of anyone making a Jig to be used with the original meter I heard that there may be one available soon but you know how rumors go LOL....Jim

John,
Did you lower your rate because of the other unit on the market. You know, the one that you got the idea of the self centering rotor from?

Originally i think i saw it for $145 but now $129?

If i just bought 1 of the old units do you offer a trade in?
and a refund?

yeah i bought one 2 weeks ago for $200 ..now the new one is $70 cheaper and better? man .......i also saw the new one at the race @maximus that john mcminn made hell of an idea. if there are refunds or exchanges let us know...

Ozzy, John did have a good idea, and its a pretty good copy of mine excluding the self centering rotor, I even complimented him on it, But truth be told, Ive been working on the exact same Centering project for some time, WAY prior to the Maximus race. As for exchange's and refunds, For starter's the New meter is only more efficient then the first meter, Not any better, in fact the numbers will be very close between meters, And finally, The price of the probe-stick really help with the price drop but what help more was the Gross amount of supplies to build meter's for quite some time. So i apologize if you feel slighted it certainly wasen't intentional. And laser, Yes, I made a typo when posting the price. Oz, I was visiting TM today at the shop and we had a great chat about the Maximus race, im going to try to get him there for the next one

John,
I wasnt in Maine but a friend was pitting near where the other rotor checker was. He over heard that you wanted him to make you the RMS-1 for you. So it sounds a little fishy the "you have been working on this for awhile".

Goodluck though

Hey where and when can i get 1 of your new checkers?

As soon as i get my web-site up-dated with the new stuff , No theres really nothing fishy it was a possible business deal that never developed, I wish them well on there venture

looking into a purchase of this. But i just bought one a few months back. looking at the other brands out there and want to compare. whats the difference between zubak 2 and the one that was at maximus???????????? why is this one superior than rms one????? is there a difference and do you offer an upgrade from your speed meter to the speed meter 2. i know when i blew an origional gtb i sent it back to team novak they sent me the newer one. thanks in advance.

phillip, I dont see a need for you to buy another one at this time. The current one you have will give you accurate numbers each and every time you use it. Now if you have ten or more rotors to test then either of the new meters will save you so time finding the sweet spots. But the way I look at it is I would check my rotors at home ( where time is on my side ) not at the track where my car set-up and track time always need work.
BTW I'm friends with both owners and like what there doing for us the racer,,, making a good product better and at a better price.

Keep up the good work!

Hi everybody. I just registered for hobbytalk because I've seen a couple of comments in other meter's thread which I would like to answer. I've been building gauss meters for hobby use and selling them on ebay for a few years. Actually the unit I used to sell on ebay as the "G-Meter" is a less expensive version of the Speed Meter and is not good for strong Neo magnets.
First comment I would like to answer is from PMSIMKINS:
"Since he isn't using a programmable Hall it can't really be calibrated. Nor would it need to be in this application"
Actually, I am using a programmable hall effect device for the Speed Meter. This hall effect device is around 7 to 10 times the price of a regular device sold from Allegro, Honeywell or other similar. Using this device allows the meter to have the best characteristics of linearity and symmetry. Low end sensors usually have a symmetry problem and the negative reading is lower than the positive.
I would like also to answer to Racin'Jason 8 who appears to think that me or John were behind the questions posted by RCDEMON.
"how many points would YOU recommend these be calibrated at? How linear is YOUR sensor/circuit? Do you have temperature compensation? What is YOUR drift rating? Are YOUR reference standards NIST traceable...what is YOUR measurement uncertainty?"
I wont make any recommendation about how to calibrate it. That's my job. Although I can assure this meters are individually calibrated and if you measure the same rotor with two different meters you won't find more than 1% difference between readings. We've had a couple of meters with problems and they were re- calibrated at no charge to this standard.
The circuit linearity is better than 0.2%. I would say it's even better than that, but considering that the sensor linearity error is 1% this is the limiting factor.
Here's a link if you want to see the sensor's specs. This should answer all your questions.
[img=http://img399.imageshack.us/img399/324/specsfv0.th.jpg] (http://img399.imageshack.us/my.php?image=specsfv0.jpg)
I use a reference magnet to calibrate my standards. This reference magnet is a $1800 piece of equipment and it's yearly re calibrated, and of course this calibration is NIST traceable. And of course I don't do a NIST traceable calibration for every Speed Meter. That would take the price to the roof.
I will try to answer any serious question about the performance of the meter. Please don't ask for electronic circuit or components details. That's proprietary information.

Zubie, you still running the $129 special. I never thought I would need a meter untill I had my four rotors checked. I had a dud right out of the box that didn't even score well at all. Thank goodness my gut feeling was right and I had the strongest rotor installed 1296!..

Anyone by chance catch that 1355 on ebay?

Oh my God! Better cancel the race,,,Lord knows its all about the rotor. Actually, I'm sure you used your meter to check all your current rotors before you sold it. No???? Tell you what, package them up and send them to John with return shipping and you can still go racing next weekend. That is if you didn't sell your transmitter too because futaba's new fast system isn't out yet.

i find it hard to believe i simply made a statement of "you mean this isnt out yet" turned into people laughing and making jokes about it- and for your info bill your comments were not appropriate. im not new to the hobby just new to brushless as of lastyear and i got the zubak meter to make my racing program better. i think you have to sit back and think of custmer service and the way the customer is being treated before typing. i will have to pass on this meter due to lack of customer service and your unprofessional comments that turn people away from your product bill. and for your info i sold all rotors with the meter and i bought 5 new rotors at my lhs and wanted to see what they were....with this meter but i will take my business elsewhere thanks.

and bill what sponsor do you have for batteries

Just what I thought,,, you never intended to buy a meter from John Z. your just on here stir up poopy. Sad thing is we are probably friends and race together. Let the products sell for themselves,,call a truce,,o.k. "phillup"?

what brands/sizes of rotors will this new meter read?

BJZJUICE
05-19-2008, 06:14 PM
Novaks-Stock & Mod, Orions-Stock & Mod HackerBrushless-Stock & Mod Just to name a few, I did extensive testing with these manufacture's rotors, along with ones Not mentioned because R&D is in its final stages. There support over the last several months have played a key role in this project, As made mention in a up-coming R/C Magazine.

Hey John, your meter basically checks the rotor of the BL motors but don't I still need an inductance meter to check the magnets in the can.
Or does an inductance meter do the same thing as your meter.

Diff Dude
05-23-2008, 04:37 PM
t4mania,
There are no magnets in the can. An inductance meter measures the inductance of the field coils in the can.

Do you find a significant difference between rotors on the track? What type of variation makes a difference? Do the rotors fall off over time?

I have never used one of these units, just wondering how they are used besides finding the highest # on a rotor

thanks:dude:

t4mania
05-24-2008, 05:01 PM
What are you guys using to test the coils in the can itself

BJZJUICE
05-25-2008, 05:29 PM
I test my cans when im at big race's just about all tracks now a days have a inductance meter. Over time from the intense heat build up in your motor it will begin effecting your magnet in the rotor, which will have a direct effect on the performance the track.
