View Full Version : Oval Racing International~
swtour 05-01-2008, 05:50 AM I was contacted today by Yusuke from RCWorld Magazine, and he let me know there are 5 racers coming from JAPAN to take part in our **ALLSTAR SHOOTOUT** Weekend at the ENCINO VELODROME in May.
This is AWESOME News - RCWorld Magazine gave us some great coverage last year, with a nice 4 page FULL Color spread...it's really cool to try to bring OVAL RACING to the INTERNATIONAL / GLOBAL market!
...it's not too late to get on board to SPONSOR this event...
THANK YOU to our Event Sponsors:
NOVAK | ORION | DBAnderson Technologies | A-Main Tires | Kimbrough Products | Jake's Performance Hobbies | McAllister Racing Bodies | Boca Bearings | Muddslide Motorsports | ProtoFORM Bodies
trailranger 05-01-2008, 02:52 PM That is so Sweet SW.
Post Some pics of the car, chassis and racers
I want to know what is inside those cars that I have seen on YouTube going 165k. Those guys love the velo by the looks of the vid.
Kid Kahuna 05-03-2008, 01:02 PM SW,
Keep us Buckeys up to date with your shoot-out. Please post any pics, vids, or results. Will there be any live coverage?
Thanks again, (When is the date?)
Kid

swtour 05-09-2008, 09:35 PM Cliff,
NOBODY makes a VELO/Camry body (But I wouldn't be suprised to see some CAMRY decals on the front of a PSE Monte Carlo

I should be able to make the race, Mom seems to be doing better. She may even come out Sunday to get out of the house and watch me race. She might be able to help translate for us.

Yeah, well, yeah. Pretty much.
CraigMBA 05-18-2008, 10:12 PM Nice job on the win Larry.
And thanks to our new friends from Japan. I hope they enjoyed thier stay.
swtour 05-19-2008, 01:46 AM ..MAN what a Long Weekend in the HOT HOT HOT HOT Freakin San Fernando Valley.
I hope somebody (MITS?) got some great shots, cause I had my head sooooo buried I never even got MY camera out of the case.
Mr. Brown - we missed you today - but the SHOOTOUT was Nuts.
The first segment was SUCH a crash fest - thankfully the idiot race director screwed up and forget to set it up for the 30 lap run (and only ran it 15 laps)
The drivers in Shootout 2 - The MAIN EVENT - OMG was that an exciting race.
Only 17 cars were able to start - everyone pretty much got a good start and the field spread out and it was ON.
Ruby had it GOING ON...but it looked like it was over when he clipped or got clipped by a back market knocking him from FIRST back to 3rd. Larry's car was HOOKED up though - and you could see him charging back to the front, while last years SHOOTOUT CHAMPION and this years TQ Eric Brust led the way with Erik Steenhoven close in tail.
Ruby would grab the lead on the FINAL Lap just edging Brust by a few .10's, Brust 2nd, Steenhoven 3rd, and Gary Hamilton was 4th (I believe...I don't have a copy of the results in front of me)
RUBY's payday was worth
$50.00 for the WIN in the 1st segment
$300.00 for the WIN in the 2nd segment
a Certificate for a BRAND NEW NOVAK 17.5 motor For Segment 1 win.
a Certificate for a BRAND NEW NOVAK GTB Esc For Segment 2 win.
ALL the prizes and cash awards seemed really popular, although it seemed a few fell through the cracks (Which I have NO idea how that happened with ALL the great stuff the AWESOME sponsors of this event provided.
ONCE AGAIN - This race COULD NOT be Done without the incredible support we have received the past 2 years - and it's growing...and we had 5 fantastic people from Japan who FLEW all the way to the U.S. solely to race on the VELODROME...they didn't even come to see Disneyland or do ANY sight seeing..JUST RACING.
Hastings 05-19-2008, 02:22 AM Joe that's not entirely true. They went on a tour to Bakersfield and was given the tour of Big Boys Toys....I heard.... :p
swtour 05-19-2008, 02:28 AM Jason - VERY True - I heard it was a very quick turnaround - but they did get to see BAKERSFIELD
ScottH 05-19-2008, 02:54 AM SWT -- Was there a speed run as well?
How did that car from Japan work out?
swtour 05-19-2008, 03:05 AM Scott,
Nic Case did run his insane car several times - and I'll post some of those lap times over the next couple days....Nic's car looked about the best we've seen it so far.
The car from Japan - not so good.
Kenji had the best running car which was a Associated L3, which is what several of us run. A couple of the others had some bad Aero concerns, and were picking the tires up and doing wheelings...until the AIR hit them..then they'd shoot 20 ft. in the air.
ScottH 05-19-2008, 03:09 AM So the car that was posted did not fair too well huh?
swtour 05-19-2008, 03:12 AM ...nope, but MAN did it look really COOL in person. The rear suspension felt really smooth. But...I think it was one of the cars doing wheelies.
CraigMBA 05-19-2008, 12:31 PM I watched that car a lot over the course of the weekend.
My guess is that it was designed for that smoother, higher grip velo they run in Japan and it was impossible to get enough spring rate in it and keep it from bottoming out (the rear of the chassis was really marked up) without making it so loose you couldn't drive it.
Kenji's L3 was doing blow overs before he started running the third screw in the T plate.
Most interesting was the extreme courtesy shown by the Japanese drivers as they re-entered the track, often driving the apron through the whole corner in order to re-enter on the opposing straightaway. We're Americans, we grip it an rip it.
My car is really trashed. I asked Steenhoven to put my car "somewhere appropriate" after the LCQ. Somebody said "In the dumpster??????" and they were closer to the truth than I cared to admit.
swtour 05-19-2008, 04:39 PM ...I wish he would have left that car here with ME to play with - I saw a couple things on it that I would have liked to try after I saw how bad it was doing wheelies. Could have been fun to play with.
