View Full Version : **gascar 2009 Engine Decision**
ScottH 04-30-2008, 02:08 AM GASCAR members vote to run the OS15CV engine for the 2009 racing season!
Voting members of GASCAR, voted unanimously to adapt the OS15CV, as the engine of choice for the 2009 GASCAR Points Series. The OS15CV uses the same case, crankshaft, muffler and clutch setup as we are currently running on our OS12CVs. The only difference in the OS15 and the OS12, is the piston/sleeve. The increase in bore gives the 15CV a horsepower rating of .70, as compared to .56 of our current 12CVs. The OS15CV sells for $99 at Tower Hobbies. The engine will be run "Box Stock", with the stock rotary carburetor. The stock head will also be used, so after market heads will not be legal.
Also, membership voted to give racers the option of keeping their OS12CVs to run in the 2009 GASCAR series, despite the lesser HP rating. This keeps those precious 12CVs in the racers boxes, to use until they give out. . Look for official engine rules for 2009 to be posted before the end of the 2008 season. Thanks to all the GASCAR members who took part in this voting process.

COYOTE 07-31-2008, 01:12 AM Tim Mc,
I ran a Thunder Tiger 12BZ for a few years, and loved the engine. I was just not sure of the availability of the engine and for how long........ never could get an answer that satisfied me like I got from Dynamite and OS. thanks for your input, though....... Your comments and ideas are always welcome.......you are, one of the founding fathers of GASCAR............ and a charter member. You still have a ride with me any time you want one.

Benjie Wright 08-18-2008, 01:58 PM Alright, i know the decision was made to run the .15, and that is fine by me. However i did here talk at the nats of this engine being discontinued. Is the decision final to run this engine for 09 or are we going to take another vote on it. I just want to make sure we don't have a problem getting parts for a year or two. Plus i need to go ahead and get one up to my standards,LOL Later-The Phenom(big bore Benjie's house of speed)
:thumbsup::thumbsup::thumbsup:
McLin 08-18-2008, 03:25 PM This is what I got back from Donn Rice of Futaba:
The engine is still in the line no worries. I just wanted to be sure, they have discontinuing a lot stuff.
Best regards
Donn
Benjie Wright 08-18-2008, 05:20 PM Thanks Godfather, Now i got to get busy at the lab. Whooo Hooooo, more polishing, porting, releaving, boy that stuff is fun. Later-THE PHENOM;)
McLin 08-18-2008, 05:51 PM Don't forget the crank!
Benjie Wright 08-18-2008, 06:14 PM Dun!!
ScottH 08-18-2008, 11:58 PM Lin -- So that motor is still in production, correct?
If so that is GREAT NEWS!
McLin 08-19-2008, 08:38 AM Yes.
What started all of this was when I was standing in line at the nats for that stupid radio impound, I was talking with Donn and he brought it up. At the time he was not sure but he thought that it may be on the list of discoutinued motors. But he said not to panic and that he would check on it when he got back.
The email was what he sent me last Tuesday. In a phone call he said that it would probably be good for another year or two.
HOWEVER, it will not be "forever" and what I honestly feel is that all this does is buy us a little more time to figure out what we are going to use for the long term.
I still say the TG is the way to go. If it doesn't fit all the cars then it's time the Mfg changed their cars. Honestly, it's that simple. Rear exhaust engines seem to be a thing of the past. But we have a breather now that will give us time to figure all this mess out.
McLin 08-19-2008, 09:19 AM But I forgot about the crankshaft being too long on the TG! Dang it!!!
ScottH 08-19-2008, 09:30 AM I do not know about the crank being too long.
I run the Losi style clutches on my car. That is on the long shaft motor with an adapter that makes it look alot like a CG shaft. I would have to get one to be sure but I think they would fit.
But I agree the side exhaust is going away and we are going to have to adapt eventually.
Benjie Wright 08-19-2008, 06:42 PM If the godfather wants to say rear exhaust, then it's rear exhaust there bubby. If the godfather wants to say side exhaust- then it's side exhaust there bubby. If the godfather wants no exhaust - then it's no exhaust there bubby, You getting my drift. BOY. Later-THE PHENOM
:p:p:p:p:p:p:p:
:woohoo:
Larry B 08-19-2008, 09:44 PM Can I adapt a .12 carb to my .09 and run it. If I get the Godfather to agree. LOL
Benjie Wright 08-20-2008, 10:15 PM SHOOOOT YEAH, I have already checked with him, he said anything goes at fox mountain. Something about it being an outlaw short track. So yeah, IT'S COOL. Later-The Phenom:woohoo:
