This engine is on a powermate generator and when started up it races at full throttle. I check the linkage for the governor to see what is up. To my suprise the governor shaft freely pulls right out of the engine. This can't be right. Is there a clip that is broke? Do I need to open her up to fix it? Or for some reason is this how it is designed. Thankyou

Yep, it's broken.

There is a clip that holds it in place, but the governor shaft has a bend in it and a kind of flat paddle surface on the end. Even if the clip came off you could not pull it through the block as it's inserted from the inside of the engine block. If you can pull it all the way out, it's broken and you will have to take the sump off in order to replace it.

Thanks 30 year tech for your help, now if I can pick your brain on how to get the armature off the shaft before I go nuts. I have tried hammering with a piece wood on the bolt left unscrewed a bit. I have not tried heat or any other methode yet.
Thanks in advanced.

Some armatures are threaded and you can use a bolt to screw into them and force them off of the crankshaft. The way you are doing it will work, but it takes two, some one needs to hold the armature and engine up off of the ground while the other beats it into submission with a hammer and block of wood.
