View Full Version : Any reason to keep this forum open?
A Taylor 04-22-2008, 12:30 PM With the column and magazine gone, no one seems to be posting here. I confess that my time for message boards is at a premium these days, I'm working on so many new projects.
If someone would like to step up and volunteer to moderate this board and post regularly, I'll keep it open. Otherwise, I'm going to ask Hank to delete it.
Have your say-so before Monday the 28th.
Anthony
bert model maker 04-23-2008, 03:58 AM How about replacing it with a forum on "Real Space " Modeling ? I know there are some members who like me, build Real Space subjects such as the Mercury, gemini ,& Apollo kits as well as the space shuttle, ISS,etc. With the upcoming retirement of the shuttle fleet & replacing it with the new spacecraft now being developed that will soon to take us back to the moon. I for one would post as I am building a 1/24 Gemini & 1/72 Columbia space shuttle. Just a thought, but I think it would be an excellent forum.

PerfesserCoffee 04-23-2008, 10:13 AM I'm afraid we have too many subdivisions under modeling. It's nice to have separate sponsors for them but then, it might be more efficient and cost-effective to share sponsorship--especially since there is a definite tendency for burn-out.
I'd like to see this subject stay alive but possibly combined with another forum. My mental energies are usually worn out for this sort of thing after looking at just 3 of the many forums. Just a thought.
computer guy 04-23-2008, 01:38 PM Please keep this topic. Whether it is merged with another or not is ok with me.
I was on vacation for the last 2 weeks and haven't been able to add to the boards.
I did buy the new Titanium Mon Calamari Star Cruiser and Vaders' Apprentice's starship. These are both very nice castings.
I am going to have to start a list of all the ships in the Star Wars/Star Trek/BSG series.

Arronax 04-24-2008, 05:06 PM AT,
Considering the number of posts to this thread, I think closing it might be a good idea.
If I have toy related posts, I usually go to Steve's "Toy, not a model" board but even the posts over there are few and far between.
It's a shame really because there needs to be a place for sci-fi toy related threads. If this board stays, I'll still check daily like I do now. If it goes away, I've always got Steve's board.

Old_McDonald 04-28-2008, 10:30 AM I can see your point. I looked at the Hobbytalk at it's root level and realized that there isn't any group for general collecting. You have diecast but perhaps remove this group and create a new level under Hobby talk for Collecting. Many of us here collect various pre-made collectibles such as die-cast scifi vehicles, fantasy figures, etc.
You could call it the Collector's Forum similar to the Modeling Forum.
hankster 04-28-2008, 02:56 PM Having a Collecting Forum that would cover a lot of other areas of collecting has been brought up in the past. Now might be a good time to start one and see whee it goes. I'm open to suggestions on what collecting topics it should cover.... action figures, trading cards, sci-fi toys, or ????? To start I'd like to keep it broad and if a topic area gets busy enough we could always split out some of the niches.

Collecting , gooooooooood!
A Taylor 04-29-2008, 04:28 PM Hank,
I'm ok with whatever you'd like to do with the content from this board. If it can be rolled into a new forum, that would be great.

hankster 04-29-2008, 10:42 PM Thanks.... and thank you for your support over the years. It's been a great partnership! Now just to get some more ideas from these guys on what they would like to see.
bert model maker 04-30-2008, 12:40 AM Hank, any thoughts of starting a real space forum ?
Bert
hankster 04-30-2008, 03:42 PM Hadn't really thought of it. Do we have that many rocket scientists on HT? :)
Steve244 05-01-2008, 11:21 AM might add some oomph to the military/aircraft forum if "real-space" were added to its title. Add some length anyway.
bert model maker 05-01-2008, 09:03 PM I know of several HT members who build "real Space" It will give us somewhere to discuss/trade ideas on the real space side of the hobby, Especially with the shuttle being retired soon & the new moon vehicles being developed and soon to be tested. there are already model kits of these vehicles being sold. There are several aftermarket suppliers for real space models. THANKS hank, for considering it.
