View Full Version : What is your favorite BG Scenes?
Old_McDonald 04-22-2008, 10:15 AM What are your favorite Battlestar scenes in the new series?
I'm wondering what scenes you liked and what kind of scenes keep bringing you back for more?
I personally like the scenes that employ heavy use of effects such as the initial attach on the Galactica, the Peguses rescueing the Galactica, the jump scenes.
Zombie_61 04-22-2008, 07:21 PM Like most fans, I think the most memorable effects scene so far was Galactica free-falling into the atmosphere of New Caprica and jumping out at the last second, so I'd have to choose that as a favorite. Aside from that, now that they've gotten the whole "shaky cam" thing under control I like just about anything that features the MKII Vipers.
For non-effects scenes, there are just too many to choose from but certain scenes (such as Admiral Adama's reaction to Starbuck's "death") stand out.
Carson Dyle 04-22-2008, 07:23 PM The sequence leading up to the destruction of the Olympic Carrier in the very first episode. BS:G at its finest.
jheilman 04-22-2008, 07:52 PM The first season episode Act of Contrition tops my list with memorable scenes. The funeral sequences with flashbacks inside flashbacks and, of course, Adama's reaction to Starbuck when she reveals that she was liable for Zack's death by passing him when she shouldn't have. "And walk out of this cabin while you still can."
Valley of Darkness - The whole running firefight to aft damage control with the Cylons being real killing machines. Loved the shot where Lee is covering for Hot Dog and Kat and runs out of ammo. He knows this is it when at the last second, BOOM from behind and the debris rains everywhere. Cool!
Some of the montages from early on were very nice. In the mini, I really love the sequence approaching Ragnar. The music is amazing and we intercut between Starbuck (who thinks Lee is dead) in prayer, gorgeous ship shots with the station and somber views of the hanger deck full of flag-draped bodies.
Many more...
PhilipMarlowe 04-22-2008, 09:56 PM My favorite episode is "Hand of God". SFX-wise, the attack on the Cylon refinery is very well done, it has some of the coolest Viper footage filmed to date. And as far as non-effects scenes, I love the scene where Adama tell's Lee of course he has confidence in him, because he's his son, and the moment where Adama gets his lighter back. And that look Baltar gives the camera after he proclaims he is a "Instrument of God" is one of Galactica's creepiest moments.
I also like "Tigh Me Up, Tigh Me Down", probably the most light-hearted episode in a very dark series.
darkwanderer 04-23-2008, 10:43 AM I'd have to go with (I think it's a first season scene) Dr. Baltar in his lab aboard the Galactica, imaginary six is there being seductive, as usual and Baltar is then caught by Starbuck "humping" a lab table.
The SFx scenes are too many to mention.
JeffG 04-23-2008, 05:05 PM Though I love FX, Galactica is one of a handful of shows that goes way beyond that. My favorite images are when Adam was shot. The sheer unexpectedness, music and editing of that sequence were top notch.
ClubTepes 04-24-2008, 02:16 AM I love the music of Galactica.
It goes way beyond 'traditional' TV music.
While some simply see it as 'too many drums' I akin that to someone who can't taste the different spices in food.
Galacticas music is daring in its style and layered on many levels.
Its easy to accept sci-fi music using 'traditional' instruments. Flutes, piano, trumpet, etc. Or basically the typical John Williams Star Wars line-up.
But Bear McCreary uses the whole 'world music' line-up of instruments. And vocals are typically in different languages where (because most of us can't understand the words) the human voice becomes one more instrument in the overall sound.
That said, with the music, one of my favorite scenes is during the begining of 'Pegasus' where the Raptor is landing on Galactica and the Pegasus grew is getting out. That piece is beautiful, haunting and powerful.
Another of my favorite scenes with the music is where the Vipers are straffing the resurrection ship in pt. 3.
Old_McDonald 04-24-2008, 10:03 AM Though I love FX, Galactica is one of a handful of shows that goes way beyond that. My favorite images are when Adam was shot. The sheer unexpectedness, music and editing of that sequence were top notch. My only problem with the effects shots is that the camera moves around and zooms in/out too much making it more difficuilt to enjoy the shots. Kinda reminds me of Chinese martial arts films of the 70's where the camera keeps zooming in on the faces and then zooming out to the middle of a field or something.
terryr 04-24-2008, 11:57 AM I like that scene where there were two people in a room and they're like;
"You better watch out"
"no, you better watch out"
"no, I won't watch out"
"you better watch out"
"Make me watch out"
"let's make out"
"watch out!"
"but what about blances baby"
"forget about them. Think about us"
"did I leave leave the stove on when we left?"
"did you get that thing I sent you?"
"did we use up ten minutes yet"
I could watch that again and again.

Definitely the best of the best!

Doube ditto!
And lets not forget the Viper pilot, mumbling to himself as he fiddles with the controls, blasting out of the launch tube through the re-entry flames as the ship re-entered in free-fall. Some of the most exciting effects I've seen anywhere.

My absolute favorite scene in the whole show is during the mini series when the Galactica comes out of the Ragnar Anchorage and slowly rolls about to lay down cover fire for the rest of the fleet. Like a gigantic prehistoric alligator. When Adama orders all batteries "Open Fire", the gator's got teeth. That sums up how the war would have gone if the Cylons hadn't compromised the defense matrix. Second best- Galactica in atmo.
Favorite episode- "Hand of God"
