Need help on tires. I have some tires that are small, can I true the rubber down to the size I need and put new band over the rubber or does it have to be glued to host for it to stick?
Thanks Joey

Dyno Dino 04-13-2008, 01:19 AM Joey, there is an art to recycling old tires into new ones however you can save alot of money but its hard work. Always use a new blade when cutting off the old band, make sure you have the right glue and CA kicker is almost a must. Be careful when trueing the old host as they grind very quick and too much pressure will cause it to flat spot (go slow) also calculate your size before trueing and check often. Then you will most likely will have to cut the band to fit and glue ends to fit snug having to stretch the band over the host then square the band to where you want it on the host, use electrical tape and tightly tape one halve of the band to the host, then pull back the other side half way and apply glue to the host and roll tire back over. I usually glue the outside first. Repeat other side after kicker is applied and dry. If this is your first time I recommend first practice trueing on an old host you dont plan on using. Tire bands can be purchased without buying the host. I have been making tires for almost 20 years and can tell you mistakes will happen and I still make them. Good luck!!!! Dyno Dino 04-13-2008, 01:23 AM Joey, remember you cannot glue a band over a band, It will not work. Use small tires on the left side of the car for stagger.
