Well i got a Ariens RER RM830e yesterday it only needed a starter and now it runs fine (pull starting it). The wire that comes out of the stator (underneith the flywheel) isn't hooked to anything, on my other tractors i notice that this wire goes to the key switch first then back to where ever, this one isn't hooked to anything, what i want to know is if i can hook the stator wire directly to the positive terminal on the battery (the wire will reach) instead of going all the way to the key and back or is it alright to put the wire that come of the stator on the same side of the solenoid as the wire coming of the positive side of the battery. thanks

The engine on your mower may have a dual circuit alternator, and the wire that is not hooked up would be "AC" current for lights which your mower probably does not have. If you hook it up directly to the battery and there is no diode in this circuit, it will burn the "AC" side of the alternator out. Make sure it has "DC" current coming out while the engine is running before hooking it up to the battery.

its just a single circuit alternator with one wire.. so can that wire hook directly to the positive terminal on the battery with no problems??, or does it have to go to the solenoid. thanks

As long as the current is "DC" it can be hooked directly to the battery or solenoid makes no difference.

alright then, i checked and its DC for sure, thanks

How did you check to see if it is AC or DC current?

you can check it will one of those hand held meters, set it on 12v DC, thats what i did anyways..
