Hi!

I have a B&S carb/gas tank combo that I am trying to get apart. They are of the #698054 (tank) and 498298 (carb) types, though I don't know the exact model of either. I have removed all 5 of the screws that hold the carb and the throttle/choke levers to the tank, but the carb still seems to be attached to the tank. When I try to rotate the carb on the tank, the pivot point SEEMS to be close to the point where the pickup tube goes to the bottom of the tank, but I'm not sure. The tank is trash, but I'm trying to reuse the carb. Is there something else that I need to remove? Do I just need to apply brute force and ignorance to it?

If I am wrong about the pivot point, then maybe it is whateve it is that goes into the brass thing next to the small well that the carb draws gas from. What goes into that? It can't be an additional screw, as it is not threaded, and it appears to have some small ports in the side (I'm looking at the new tank, and assuming that it is an exact match to the old one there are no numbers stamped on either).

If you have a paper type air filter then you may need to remove the air filter stud, some carburetors have a screw that is accessed from under the choke plate that needs to be removed before the carburetor can be removed from the tank.

My new tank does not have anywhere for a screw under the choke plate to screw into, but that may just mean that I don't have the correct replacement tank. I'll check under the choke plate for a screw. If there isnt one, then I'm just coing to cut the bottom off of the tank and take a look (it is just going into the trash once I get it off anyway)

I'll check in with the results tomorrow night or Saturday.

Thanks again,
Steve

It was under the throttle bellcrank. It looks like the carb is either trash, or at least needs a rebuild too. Everything inside the screen that sits in the resevoir is plugged up with what looks like rust.

Thanks for the help.
