View Full Version : Rotors: What keeps them strong?
kang45 04-06-2008, 07:14 PM I've read some posts after searching under rotors, but have not found the answer to this question:
Does keeping rotors bundled together effect performance?
I heard a racer with a Zubie Meter tell another racer to keep his rotors bound together that it made them stronger. Does this work? What else might work to maintain or improve rotor performance?
BJZJUICE 04-08-2008, 08:24 PM Thats a really good question??? Well for starters, Not over heating them.(Gearing) Try keeping them under 160deg, As for keepng them grouped together, Ive done both, And the Verdict is>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>Grouped Together!! PLUS, Till I see Novak (charlie) keeping them sepprated im keeping mine lumped together, I guess I need to change my instructions on the Speed Meter, Because I said to keep them appart! lol
kang45 04-08-2008, 09:53 PM Thanks to all those who PM'd with comments! I won't stir the pot anymore.
Whatever you think works for you is the answer for now.

really fred 04-09-2008, 12:50 AM keep them in your freezer
pmsimkins 04-09-2008, 01:09 PM Demagnetization over time alone for rare earth magnets is incredibly small. It makes very little difference how you store them. I wouldn't take two of them and clamp the same poles together obviously, but storing them in a clump is ok as is storing them apart.
If you do store them in a clump make sure they are in tubes. You don't want to let them slam together as you'll end up cracking the magnet under the plating. It's also not fun when they slam together and pinch your skin.
Echeconnee 04-09-2008, 05:21 PM store them in Bat Guano @ precisely 61.234 degrees when not in use. When you get to the track wash the bat poop off with Dawn dish washing liquid and dry immediatly with high grade cheese cloth. After the chees cloth, don't handle with your bare hands as the moisture and oils from your skin will cause the motor to lose 1/1,000,000 of an RPM and that could cost you the race! Really people, it's not the motor. Set up the chassis, set up the chassis and then set up the chassis some more until you get it right. One turn on the right side micro shock can make more difference in the car than any difference between brushless motors from the manufacturer. These guys selling meters are laughing all the way to the bank.
SMROCKET 04-09-2008, 05:44 PM I would disagree with your post as a motor that has a inducence reading of 31 will run a lap or more faster than a 36 reading .This is fact , I would hope that all manufactors can get together and have rules on how to produce equal motors ..... I could give a buddy a motor and he will go X number of laps and then a good motor and he will go 1 lap faster ... If you think its not so , Try it yourselfs .... I would say that this is only a factor when you can wheel for 4 minutes and not miss a line But most sponsered guys can wheel and most sponsered guys have a good car program , ITS the complete package that wins a old friend once said this
V+M =W Voltage plus Motor equals WINS

"WORK ON CHASSIS"/ "ITS ALL CHASSIS"......reading that gets about as old as all the motor threads.
The guy asked a simple question and I don't recall it asking for your chassis opinions.
I store all my rotors in the motors.....lol
the old rotors go to my daughter.....she likes $35 magnets....lol
Echeconnee 04-09-2008, 11:29 PM yea, I am sure Gordon was worried about his engine performance last week in Texas, lol. NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOT! I watched a guy TQ and win the Daytona speedway race a couple of weeks ago in a really stout field of 10.5 cars. According to the meters, he had one of the worst motors there. And before you ask, the motors were sealed before qualifying and you had to run that one motor all weekend. So again I will say chassis, chassis, chassis!!!

jerry did own a 1310 rotor and a very avg inductance motor.......in a perfect world we all want a super low inductance motor and a 1400 rotor...that would make a difference in the 11th place racer who sat on the pole of the B main at the birds i'm sure...it would be nice if they were alot closer from the factory and new rotors shouldn't go out reading 1100 either......
for the racing we do in florida none of this stuff makes me want to run out and buy 200 motors and 500 rotors to find one perfect motor....
the rocket races at a higher level than 90% of us and is willing to pay a few extra dollars to sleep at night knowing motor is not his problem...
wasssssup rocket! you got the golden goose still?:)
kang45 04-10-2008, 12:15 AM OK, Where exactly does one pick pick up a good supply of bat guano?
I get it! I get it!
For now I will store them together in the tubes until I can hook up with someone who'll let me use his meter and go fromthere!
Thanks again to all who responded!
Another questions is at the big races do the hand out rotors? are we there yet?
:woohoo::woohoo::woohoo::woohoo::woohoo::woohoo::w oohoo::woohoo:
Echeconnee 04-10-2008, 07:25 AM I hope we don't get that silly again. I have piles of old hand out stock motors. I like the way the motors were checked, sealed and recorded @ the speedway race.
parrott88 04-10-2008, 04:09 PM Another thing, They took the motor after the race and gave me a new one. The one they gave me had a 1150 rotor and the windings in the motor are all pulled out. You can look inside the can and the wire actually loops around where the rotor goes in the bottom bearing. I feel like I was asked to bend over after the race.
I hear the motor that I ran at Daytona is in Boylans car! LOL

Howelse are the going to keep a strong arsenal of motors for their factory guys..............lmao
parrott88 04-10-2008, 08:04 PM To everyone: I was just joking about Mike having my motor!!! I forget how touchy everyone is about MOTORS!
katf1sh 04-10-2008, 08:40 PM trouble maker! you get those pink net tires yet? he he he
Metal 04-10-2008, 08:51 PM I new you were........hence the "lol"
RYR28 04-10-2008, 11:48 PM Jerry...you got the wrong MB......it's in Mike Bean's car!
RCThunder 04-11-2008, 02:17 AM Lol!!
Echeconnee 04-11-2008, 05:16 AM I knew it!Jerry...you got the wrong MB......it's in Mike Bean's car!
katf1sh 04-11-2008, 11:23 PM mike bruce?
Echeconnee 04-12-2008, 09:48 AM Geez, how many "Monkey Boys" do y'all have? lol
Andy Koback 04-12-2008, 01:35 PM Rotors: What keeps them strong?
Lack of use??? ;)
SMROCKET 04-18-2008, 02:03 PM HI KAtfish ,,,, Yes the golden goos eis traveling south very soon SRM
