View Full Version : Under the Hood Club CUDA 1/1000?
astroking2 04-06-2008, 11:50 AM I just got my Greenlight Under the Hood Club CUDA car and I noticed that it is number 1002 on the bottom.
It was my impression that only 1000 were made.
Any thoughts on why mine is 1002?
I may email the Greenlight team and see what they have to say. I would post a pic but can't get one that detailed to see the number.
Thanks

black sunshine 04-07-2008, 06:35 PM This is right off the front of an old JL Frightning Lightnings package- "1 of only 17,500*" Then on back it says- " This Frightning Lightning car is VERY limited. It is 1 of only 17,500(+ or - 10% random manufacturing or shipping variances). I KNOW that's from Playing Mantis, but it could be along the same lines. Kind of makes you wonder about the REAL number of WL's or GM's made in percentage to a total run.

That is exactly my concern. I have proof (of some sort) that this car is not 1 of 1000. Assuming that they did not skip numbers, etc.
I guess that I will email them my concern and see what they say.
summitdrinker 04-07-2008, 11:08 PM they may make a few extra to make up for damaged goods or production rejects

I think overruns would be common in many castings......even limited editions.
I have a JL exclusive with a higher number than the production was suppose to be.
Drdealone 04-08-2008, 04:16 AM I have no issue with slight overruns by GL. 1010 when the run is stated at 1000 do not give me concern warrenting comment from the company. 2000
would give me serious concern.

Mark Hosaflook 04-08-2008, 09:18 AM In dealing with Do-All-Ser in the past my experience shows that in a world of collectors who insist on undamaged blisters and cars etc if you plan to sell 1000 of something, you better account for damage. I learned this mistake the year I completely sold every Fest Dinner casting produced (white Olds and Orange Mopar). There was at least four or five unhappy people. Could have been more had not some who planned to open, traded others who did not want to but on the cars themselves that had flaws, I had nothing to replace them with. Also when you plan to match numbers on sets you can count on more issues as it is a fact the machine skips, sometimes even duplicates a number twice causing both cars to be "write offs" as having for example, two "07" cars would cause all sorts of emotional response. Also the number is often related to how they are packed in Master cases + or _ a few.
It's not the conspiracy theory many like to read into it. My only thought on this sytem is this. If you make 1000 of something, sell out at 950 so you leave yourself room for errors, damage etc that way you stay under your number and keep all happy.
On the other hand there was one time when I was told 200 of something was made and had cars numbered in the 400's. That's another story........:o
astroking2 04-08-2008, 11:10 AM I understand what is being said and it seems logical.
Still, I emailed Greenlight about it and Mac said he would ask the Under the Hood Club guy about it.
His answer will probably be something along the lines of what has been said here.
Thanks for the help.
greelt-prod 04-08-2008, 12:27 PM Hello everyone,
We have already commented on this on the UTH message board but I wanted to follow up. Everyone here has some relevant points about this. We ship all of our items in even case quantities first and foremost. So for boxes that total out, 1,000 isn't easily divisible as you can guess into case quantities.
We also are required to make so many extra cars for licensing purposes and in this case we made 1,008 of every car. That doesn't mean that the cars are numbered exactly 1 to 1,008 however. There are mistakes on the serial numbering, quality defects that have to be thrown out, etc. So please understand we do have a limited piece of 1,000 here. Actually many less than 1,000 will ever be available to the public. We have to send in countless samples and production pieces for licensing.
I hope this clears things up, nothing fishy going on here. Thanks for all your support of GL. We hope to keep everyone interested and happy as we continue to grow.
