The Charger 500's had a flush mounted grill (from a Coronet if I remember correctly) not the pointed nose like the Daytona.

tjettim 04-05-2008, 10:07 PM Yes they did. I remember in 71 a Plymouth dealer in detroit took
a few unsold Superbirds, took the noses and wings off and made
roadrunners out of them. The parts were in a dumpster behind the
dealership.I know of no Daytona slot cars being wingless though.
Rawafx 04-06-2008, 07:53 AM The "slot car versions" from Riggen, Cobramite, and Dynamic did not have wings on them. If you wanted a wing you had to make it yourself.
The Charger 500's also had the rear glass mounted flush with the "C" pillars, unlike the stock ones on which the stock glass was resessed and in more of a vertical plane.

Hi Joe, Go to the "advanced" posting option rather than quick reply. Scroll down the page and look down below. Click "manage attachments" for the browser window. Then select your pic(s) from your personal files and click "upload" to put them into your post. Good luck!
Rawafx 04-07-2008, 06:16 AM By the way, the Dodge Charger Daytonas are 1969 models, of which Dodge only had to make 500(I recall a MOPAR magazine saying only 387 were sellable) to be legal for NASCAR competition. The Plymouth Superbirds are actually 1970 models and NASCAR had upped the minimun requirement to 5000 for that year.

joegri 04-07-2008, 08:35 PM Ok, here they are. With the help of my wife and Bill Hall's instructions, was able to click these pictures. The only thing different in these cars is the one in question has no window straps or rear stripe and no wing. Upon close inspection you can see a very faint outline of where the wing strut could have been, but is very good job if it was cut off. Also, the goop that holds windshield in looks to be untouched and no gouging on rear window. Just food for thought and exercise in learing on how to post pictures. Hope they are clear enough for all to see. (I' m not really crazy about this body, I just wanted the mag traction chasis that came with it).

Bill Hall 04-08-2008, 02:43 AM Glad the pic load worked for you Joe.
To trim those jail bars out, or any close window work, a piece of thin card stock or some thin plastic from a water/soda bottle is wiggled in between the body and glass for a shield. In most cases there's enough flex to get the gaurd in and make a clean cut with a fresh hobby blade. The wing strut removal requires some careful sanding and polishing to leave no tell...which most folks arent willing to do for a runner body
AfxToo 04-08-2008, 07:39 AM This site has a great overview of these cars:

It looks like slightly fewer than 2000 SuperBirds were produced, with around 500 Daytonas and 500 Charger 500s. Any of these cars with the Hemi/manual transmission combination is a very desirable, very high dollar value car.
I prefer the Daytona over the SuperBird, but this whole series of cars, winged and wingless versions, Birds, Bees, and GTXs included, represent some of the finest looking large body sports cars ever produced.
roadrner 04-08-2008, 10:10 AM Well joe, if you interesting in finding a new home for the bods, send me an email. I have somethings to trade since you're into AFXes. rr
