vaBcHRog 05-07-2009, 04:45 PM So Bill what she going to pull :) Roger Corrie Bill Hall 05-07-2009, 05:33 PM Roger, Funny you'd bring that up! If I could ever find the time I'd love to model an old wooden boat like a Chris Craft Sportsman.... or maybe a Century Sea Maid. I fingered the varnished mahogany hull would compliment that Coppery color that fell outta the airbrush. bobhch 05-08-2009, 01:01 AM I can live with that Coach and Jimmy you guys crack me up...I'll drive....chew, chew...hahahahah Beware of the Napping Gus...go Gus go!! The Hut just gave it away...look under the sunny chair guys. Bob...go float a boat Bill...zilla resinmonger 05-08-2009, 11:19 AM Coach and Jimmy you guys crack me up...I'll drive....chew, chew...hahahahah Beware of the Napping Gus...go Gus go!! CJ XracerHO 05-09-2009, 09:01 PM Bill, JoeD's LED Sled is Fantastic & thanks for the video to show how well it works. XracerHO 05-13-2009, 09:07 AM Guys, just wanted to show Bill a photo of a Porsche similar to the ones in his videos and give him an idea for a trailer. ...RL resinmonger 05-13-2009, 10:31 AM Guys, just wanted to show Bill a photo of a Porsche similar to the ones in his videos and give him an idea for a trailer. ...RL Well, we still want to see more pictures of your track. We have means of persuasion you know. You wouldn't want everyone to know that you secretly think the Super III is the best car ever or that you've been seen listening to Celine Dion would you? There now, you see posting some pictures isn't so hard to do after all... Russ the Hutt learned persuasion from Jabba the Hutt, a kind and gentle being... :drunk::hat::freak::dude::tongue::tongue::tongue: Bill Hall 05-13-2009, 02:26 PM Here's a coupla stills of my continuing saga to capture the elusive olive jag. Rather than become a captive in my menagerie of lil' cars this one chose suicide. http://i44.photobucket.com/albums/f30/modelmurdering/DSC05879.jpg The dirty rotten scoundrel had a hand grenade sequestered under it's windshield. http://i44.photobucket.com/albums/f30/modelmurdering/DSC05880.jpg Although not evident in the pix this one also chose to go coyote style and dislocate it's passenger windshield pillar from it's roof just to evade my snare. The following vid picks up after the nibblets were re-installed. Due to the tiny size they are rather uncooperative. This requires my full concentration so there is no vid of the actual re-insertion. In a nutt shell the bits and roof are activated with testors and installed using high solids goop. Given time to flash the roof is then floated over to begin the blend just like always. http://s44.photobucket.com/player.swf?file=http://vid44.photobucket.com/albums/f30/modelmurdering/MOV05881.flv&fs=1&os=1&ap=1 The aftermath and some fiddle farting around. It's the little things that take the time. I move ahead a little, back up, check fit, plot strategy...then do a minute or two of work so I can wait a day or two for it to fully cure. LOL! http://s44.photobucket.com/player.swf?file=http://vid44.photobucket.com/albums/f30/modelmurdering/OliveJagrestoroof.flv&fs=1&os=1&ap=1 slotcarman12078 05-13-2009, 04:23 PM Happy to see MMtv back on the air!!! And with an olive Jag to boot!!! If anyone can fix it, you can!!!!:thumbsup: WesJY 05-13-2009, 07:39 PM bill - awesome job!! i love watching your videos! :) Wes XracerHO 05-13-2009, 08:01 PM Second that: Glad to see MMtv back on the air!! Videos are so informative! Olive Jag, once finished please show the buffed finished car. MMtv is the best reality TV!! Thanks Bill. Hutt, another time on the Track building Form. ...RL win43 05-13-2009, 08:04 PM WOW!!!!!!!! Looking good Bill. joez870 05-13-2009, 10:06 PM I saw the pics and wondered who the kid was who stepped on the jag.....then I read the post. heh, I guess I should read before looking at the pics? Nice save, there, Bill ....but seriously....if you really have the itch to do some serious repairs, believe me, I can send you a few and you wouldn't have to wreck your own! :D roadrner 05-13-2009, 10:33 PM I would have made that one a part of a junk lot on epay. ;) Can't wait to see this one come back as a mint sitting on a chassis!:thumbsup: rr Bill Hall 05-22-2009, 12:53 AM http://i44.photobucket.com/albums/f30/modelmurdering/DSC05987.jpg Blue Willy has finally settled on his chassis. I had a mental picture of the stance I wanted and maintained that angle as I nibbled away at the posts to arrive here. Not only is the bod blue so is the arm ...she cooks! http://i44.photobucket.com/albums/f30/modelmurdering/DSC05974.jpg Now that some things are decided we'll remove the mold lines. Probablly gonna kill the license plate and nuke the meatloaf scooper for something a little more aggressive. Currently we are in 1200. This one has really started to grow on me. http://i44.photobucket.com/albums/f30/modelmurdering/DSC05979.jpg http://i44.photobucket.com/albums/f30/modelmurdering/DSC05980.jpg The over and under on the olive jag. I've done about eight jillion XKEs so once I get rollin on one they dont take very long. Real close to the buffin wheel now. Just some nit picky sanding in the way now...maybe one more light skim on the roof blend. I may just spray this one like Split's blue one from last year http://i44.photobucket.com/albums/f30/modelmurdering/DSC05981.jpg http://i44.photobucket.com/albums/f30/modelmurdering/DSC05982.jpg http://i44.photobucket.com/albums/f30/modelmurdering/DSC05983.jpg File this under trix. To cut the front drip edge correctly requires two different files and a light touch. Actually the first pass is done with a blunted exacto blade to establish a furrow that guides the file. Not too deep! Just enough for a square edged file to track in. Once it's squared out I use the knife edge of the smashed oval file to cut the curve in. This procedure requires some practice BUT it is doable! Bill Hall 05-22-2009, 01:17 AM http://i44.photobucket.com/albums/f30/modelmurdering/DSC05985.jpg LOL I'm in XKE hell! Seen here is the elusive but skwooshed slate version. Not horrible....but requires some TLC of the sticky kind. http://i44.photobucket.com/albums/f30/modelmurdering/DSC05986.jpg The donor chunk here is rough profiled as a sprue and the ticky tacky angles, seams, or lines are sculpted; then it is cut to length. While the graft appears humongous by comparison it provides the necessarry material to allow me to shape it down gradually. Extra time here is well spent. Note that the graft is carefully contoured to fit the gotch in the roof. Were it not properly shaped this would become a pocket and require extra filler. SplitPoster 05-22-2009, 01:26 AM I give the jag video a 10. Got good choreography and you can dance to it. Bill, thanks so much for the whole story! Once again I can learn not just from observed technique, but also from the audio analysis and thought process and occasional snicker. I know you actually broke that car on purpose...... There were several shades of official British Racing Green, the lightest being olive much like that. Always did think Jags of all scales look great in that color! Jeff slotcarman12078 05-22-2009, 11:18 AM E types have always been on of my list of favorite cars, and I'm happy to be the proud owner of 3 T Jet Jags now. I can only swing the cheap colors, but I'm happy with that. I have a couple lindy Jag kits and if I ever get caught up with my current projects, I would like to attempt a roadster version. I seen one done here before, but can't remember where. I'm pretty sure mine won't come out half as good.. Someday...... win43 05-22-2009, 12:58 PM Nice cars Bill. That Olive jag is gonna be a winner for sure :thumbsup::thumbsup: joez870 05-22-2009, 04:39 PM I am on the edge of my seat as usual, Bill. I LOVE watching these projects come together looking show room fresh! roadrner 05-22-2009, 07:35 PM Bill, I still can't get over some of the stuff you salvage and how, IMO, you can't even tell it was damaged. Guess you need to start thinking about publishing a book like Mike Vitale did.:thumbsup: rr bobhch 05-22-2009, 09:28 PM Bill, That green graft is gonna be sanno when it is done. Again as usual...WOW! Bob...you are driven...zilla CJM 05-24-2009, 07:34 PM Bill You're doing a great service to mankind by saving those XKEs the way you do. Very cool. Bill Hall 06-10-2009, 05:53 PM Here's some unscripted bulk footage of real time/speed repairs. These were actually tossed aside for obvious quality concerns, someone was playing with the camera settings and the QC guy was asleep at the switch. Gus has elected to release these rare editions with and inspite of their 60's bad porno quality. http://s44.photobucket.com/player.swf?file=http://vid44.photobucket.com/albums/f30/modelmurdering/MOV05990.flv&fs=1&os=1&ap=1 http://s44.photobucket.com/player.swf?file=http://vid44.photobucket.com/albums/f30/modelmurdering/MOV05991.flv&fs=1&os=1&ap=1 http://s44.photobucket.com/player.swf?file=http://vid44.photobucket.com/albums/f30/modelmurdering/MOV05992-1.flv&fs=1&os=1&ap=1 http://s44.photobucket.com/player.swf?file=http://vid44.photobucket.com/albums/f30/modelmurdering/MOV05994.flv&fs=1&os=1&ap=1 http://s44.photobucket.com/player.swf?file=http://vid44.photobucket.com/albums/f30/modelmurdering/MOV05995.flv&fs=1&os=1&ap=1 roadrner 06-10-2009, 07:23 PM Bill, Guess you could have used the background music from any spaghetti western to really give it some kick! :freak: That would have been a hoot. rr http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V3gp7B8WC4Q tjd241 06-10-2009, 07:38 PM Looked to be indie flicks... starring The Jag City Kitties.... I laughed.. I cried...:thumbsup: nd btw... According to our notes, there was to be another new release too? Something blue and "aggressive"?? Bill Hall 06-11-2009, 03:44 AM Thanx for that OFD! That gang might well be playing my newest favorite instrumental. Yeah Nuther, havent squeezed the final shot on blue Willy yet. I need a good day off to get rollin' on some finish work. As for the bootleg carp there were some choice swearwords created when I saw the picture quality on that last batch of vid. Although it is shown in no particular order there originally was rhyme and reason to it. The beauty was that it was all pretty well in frame, freewheeling uninterupted repair work as it really happens around here. Rather than a laborius scripted tute, I had the XKE jam session going at full speed to illustrate how quickly the transitions between steps should actually go ...sadly the pixel count was on 3.....ARRRRRGH! It was designed to document pillar repair on "Skay-eez". The first clip shows how I approach the initial file work after a pillar has been roughed in and cured. The trick here is sighting through to the other side frequently, then compare your angles and work things down carefully. Look twice, file once, turn it around, recheck, look again, take another nibble. The final sizing is done with wet and dry paper....never a file! As things progress I rough the seam detail in with a hand blade and a vertical dental scraper. Then I begin shaping the 90 degree internally cut detail of the XKE pillar's exterior. The line cut by the blade is the rear no go line for the seam detail. You'll note that the pillar is re-activated with testors and everything forward of the no-go line is carefully gouged away while it's still workable using a horizontal dental scraper. Once things are roughed out you'll see me start to re-activate, colorblend, and float on more material. I'll come back and look after some time has elapsed for flash and settling. It isnt uncommon to back up drag out a clogged seam and refloat it....or.....come back and find that I might need just a dab more here or there. It is always done on the fly as there isnt an exact amount of steps...it just takes as many steps as it takes to get a uniform color tone and to get enough material down to resculpt the missing details. T-jetjim 06-11-2009, 06:05 AM Bill- I have missed your posts. Glad you got a day off from retirement. Probably will get worse now that school is out, heh? RR - great music post. Very entertaining! Jim Bill Hall 07-03-2009, 01:52 AM http://i44.photobucket.com/albums/f30/modelmurdering/DSC06172.jpg Someone posted one of these not too long ago. I used a coupla ciggy box aluminum hubs for pullys. http://i44.photobucket.com/albums/f30/modelmurdering/DSC06173.jpg At this point performance is average t-jet-like...I havent had time to toy with it much. http://i44.photobucket.com/albums/f30/modelmurdering/DSC06174.jpg Bill Hall 07-03-2009, 02:20 AM http://i44.photobucket.com/albums/f30/modelmurdering/DSC06193.jpg Cant ever seem to leave well enough alone. Something was buggin' me about this car but I couldnt put my finger on it. I performed a scoopectomy and garged the license plate offa blue Willy. The answer came to me after trolling through some old pix. http://i44.photobucket.com/albums/f30/modelmurdering/DSC06194.jpg The original side molding has always upset my eye. Takes a while to carve them away AND leave the doorhandles in tact, but its worth it. Pix show a 320 finish...it's actually back to 1200...but my camera battery puked out today. Contemplating a grill re-work now. Bill Hall 07-03-2009, 02:33 AM I finally had a momment to "flick some dirt on the wall" ....AKA buff some cars. The following three posts reflect the progression through a three stage buff in coarse, medium, and fine compounds. Note that certain colors pop out earlier than others. http://i44.photobucket.com/albums/f30/modelmurdering/DSC06178.jpg http://i44.photobucket.com/albums/f30/modelmurdering/DSC06184.jpg http://i44.photobucket.com/albums/f30/modelmurdering/DSC06185.jpg http://i44.photobucket.com/albums/f30/modelmurdering/DSC06176.jpg http://i44.photobucket.com/albums/f30/modelmurdering/DSC06182.jpg http://i44.photobucket.com/albums/f30/modelmurdering/DSC06189.jpg Bill Hall 07-03-2009, 02:37 AM Standard blue and green really take to the buffing wheel, always my favorite to work with. http://i44.photobucket.com/albums/f30/modelmurdering/DSC06179.jpg http://i44.photobucket.com/albums/f30/modelmurdering/DSC06180.jpg http://i44.photobucket.com/albums/f30/modelmurdering/DSC06186.jpg http://i44.photobucket.com/albums/f30/modelmurdering/DSC06177.jpg http://i44.photobucket.com/albums/f30/modelmurdering/DSC06181.jpg http://i44.photobucket.com/albums/f30/modelmurdering/DSC06187.jpg Bill Hall 07-03-2009, 02:41 AM The final passes on the olive XKE roof repair. As a final comparison, take a look back at the final shots of each car and the final pic of the XKE. Folks frequently ask if it is neccessary to take wet sanding all the way to 2000 grit prior to buffing. Truthfully not... for a standard finish. A thorough 1200 scuff followed by a good buff is more than adequate. The Cougar, the Toronado, and the two Makos were stopped at 1500. However... The XKE was taken to 2000. Note that in the last pic of the previous cars you can just make out the touchy feely guv'ment "Use Saftey Glasses" sticker under the shade of my desk lamp; after some 2000 you can almost read the text on the Jag. It's not an 09! The bulb's 60 watt label is now legible too. http://i44.photobucket.com/albums/f30/modelmurdering/DSC06175.jpg http://i44.photobucket.com/albums/f30/modelmurdering/DSC06175.jpg http://i44.photobucket.com/albums/f30/modelmurdering/DSC06188.jpg tjd241 07-03-2009, 08:27 AM Heeeeere's Billy! ....... Fellas, that there is High-Gloss squared  Wear'em if ya got'em boys! nd XracerHO 07-03-2009, 09:01 AM Bill, thanks for the buffing tips, really appreciate your tutorials! Great High Gloss & the Willy's is really taking shape!!  ...RL PD2 07-03-2009, 09:28 AM It undeniable! You MUST be a detail shop, body repair, and paint layer by trade! No one pays that much attention to that kind of level of detail. FANTASTIC work on the buff job and bringing that paint to life! WOW! PD2:thumbsup: slotcarman12078 07-03-2009, 11:15 AM  Nice job trimming the trim on ole blue!! That makes a huge difference!!:thumbsup: I'm curious... By the time I got around to messing with slots Aurora was pumping out AFX, and T Jets weren't being sold where I was buying.. Did Tjets have a shine like that new??? I don't recall the AFXs I bought looking half that good.. Olive jag came out SUPER SWEET!!!!:thumbsup::thumbsup: Bill Hall 07-03-2009, 03:22 PM Thanx guyz! Thought I'd make with some still comparo shots to illustrate what I see or look for when I'm puttering on the slotbench. Knowing what to use and when because of why is far more illuminating than "ugh, me polish lil car". The tells are there. Interpreting them is always another matter. Nice job trimming the trim on ole blue!! Olive jag came out SUPER SWEET!!!!:thumbsup::thumbsup: Yeah Joe your right. The AFX cars never seemed to have the same shine as the t-jet, but it has been forty odd years so I'm certain I could be waxing philosophically rather than being objective. Keep in mind that many AFX cars had some form of funkified graphics which were the fad of the time. Graphic areas will always distort what an old shop grump painter once told me was the "pond". "Son" he said, "The goal is to make the finish as still as a mill pond." "Anything you throw in the pond upsets the reflection." Kinda duh when you think about it. LOL Clearly the t-jet didnt tap the full potential of it's "shine-ability" either...none of them ever had the ridiculous finish that I try to apply. Lets keep in mind that they were just silly toyz and still are. PD is right. It's the blending of the Vitale technique and a second career as a shop lizard. Production techniques scaled down. Too many years in the shops have twisted my perceptions. In my defense though; after the owner runs them, knocks them around, and then tries to restore the shine themselves using toothpaste and their front door mat...they should look just about right. Putting a show car shine on these tiny lil' toy cars is childs play when compared to a 1:1 car. I get to sit on my butt, bring back a tiny chunk of the past, make some owner smile, and best of all make myself smile! Thanx for all the kind words. I dont get to post near as often as I'd like to these days so we may have to change the thread to "This Month in Model Murdering" win43 07-03-2009, 05:43 PM THE COLORS THE COLORS WOW  Those are purty shiny things :thumbsup: They're so bright .......
