View Full Version : Follow up movies that should be made?
xsavoie 04-01-2008, 09:56 PM Whether you agree or not that the When Worlds Collide movie was a great one, there has been a book published by Warner Paperback Library titled,After Worlds Collide, written by Philip Wylie and Edwin Balmer,I believe. The story follows our intrepid group after they have crashed landed on the new planet.Apparently this planet was once inhabitated by an advanced civilization.Old seemingly abandoned cities under domes seems the only thing left from them. But are they?Anyhow, the book seems interesting enough to awaken the interest of movie producers. If this movie should ever be done,I wonder if it should be a sequel in the old style like the previous one,or a more modern version.Would it be a good decision to follow the book closely,or just loosely be based on the book.Should this movie be made for movie theaters,or become either a TV movie or mini series.I at least hope that the poeple in show business know about this book.
xr4sam 04-02-2008, 01:24 AM Sorry, xsavoie, but I don't. It's one less property for them to mess up.
Of late, I have zero faith in Hollyweird. While I'm looking forward to the new Iron Man movie, I'm also terrified that the studio will butcher it. Same goes for the new Hulk movie. My faith level is slightly higher for The Dark Knight, though, as I saw Batman Begins, and that was a beautiful thing!
Old_McDonald 04-02-2008, 09:07 AM I don't think they do know about it, or at least, they are deliberately ignoring great sci-fi books to avoid paying licensing fees. We have a lot of junk sci-fi being written by studio writers that aren't really good. Just look at the many sci-fi shows that have been canceled due to bad ratings.
What I wish is that we had more producers like Richard Zanuck (sp?) who will support good sci-fi. Movies and mini-series I'd like to see made are:
The Forever War
Ringworld
Rondeveu with Rama
Follow up with novels of Collosus: The Forbin Project
Just about any Robert Heinlien novels
etc.
So many Hugo winning novels are just begging to be made, yet, we get crap like the stuff shown on the Sci-Fi channel.
a sequel to soylent green.....:P
AZbuilder 04-02-2008, 11:58 AM Just a correction to your first post Xsavoie the Hendron Ark made a intact touchdown on the new world. It as the second Ark ship commanded by Dave Ransdell that made a crash landing as well as the British which crashed into a lake but the rest of your post is correct. and I too would like to see a film or whatever made out of this followup novel.

xsavoie 04-02-2008, 06:05 PM Of course,if another film of this adventure of Worlds Collide would be made, should it be a remake of When Worlds Collide,as well as After Worlds Collide in the same style.Since it would be somewhat long, this is why I think it should be done in a mini series (TV Movie) of probably about 3 to 4 hours long.If a movie of the second book only would be made,it might prove necessary to at least include the last part of the first movie in order for the viewer to understand what this movie is all about.I think that the subject of the human race escaping disaster and landing on an alien world, stranded, with only the basic necessities makes for an exciting adventure.Like I've said before, this movie could be close to the original story,or loosely based on it.If some writer can make a better story out of it,great.
ClubTepes 04-07-2008, 11:08 PM Sequels I'd like to see......
The Jerk II - More Cans.
Thelma and Louise II - Long way Down. (ok - so it'd be a sort film).
8 Mile II - 16 Mile, Big Beaver. (you'd have to live in Detroit to get this one).
Apocalypse Then.
Silent Running II - Silent Gardening.
Black Hole - White Hole.
razorwyre1 04-08-2008, 05:55 AM i likes simon peggs idea of doing a really fantastic sequel to a really crappy movie....... "killers from space 2" or something.....

deadmanincfan 04-08-2008, 05:34 PM aren't they talking about a Beetlejuice sequel?
JeffG 04-09-2008, 12:22 AM Not that I've heard. I'd have thought that one would have been a no brainer a long time ago.
terryr 04-09-2008, 01:08 AM Blazing Saddles Part 2-Scorching Hot.
scotpens 04-09-2008, 03:45 AM Whatever happened to the long-awaited sequel, Who Fricasseed Roger Rabbit?
Or the final installment in the Die Hard series: Die Already!
Or Twister II: Let's Twist Again?
Or something for both the guys and the ladies: the story of a group of eccentric Southern women who go around in pickup trucks chasing storms. Yep, it's Fried Green Tornadoes!
razorwyre1 04-09-2008, 05:37 AM aren't they talking about a Beetlejuice sequel?
there was a script written and prepared for production within a couple of years of the first films release, "beetlejuice goes hawaiian", but but it got lost in development hell and now so much time has gone by, its doubtful that it will ever see the light of day. (they killed the golden goose with the cartoon show)
i wrote an outline for a "20 years later" beetlejuice sequel, but honestly that'll never see the light of day either.
JeffG 04-09-2008, 09:16 AM I may be alone here, but I would have been curious to see another Lost In Space movie. I didn't think the first one was too bad and I bet they would have hit their stride more with a follow up as the characters would have become more accustomed to the roles. On one of the commentary tracks there is some speculation as to what the basis of a sequel would have been about and it sounded really interesting. Would also be fun to see if they would introduce a new Pod and Chariot.
Rainfollower 04-12-2008, 03:39 AM I'd throw in another vote for "The Forever War". I can't count the number if times I've reread it over the years. I have three different versions of it on my bookshelf.
John P 04-12-2008, 09:25 AM I'm still hoping Arnold does a "King Conan" film.

Well, if he ever decides to do another Conan movie, he'd better start hitting the gym again.
I suppose with all his gubernatorial duties, he doesn't have the time to work out anymore . . . but somehow he still has plenty of time to eat!
John P 04-12-2008, 05:46 PM If there's anything Arnold knows, it's how to whip himself into a specific physical condition in a certain amount of tiem. Apparently he hasn't HAD to, lately, though.

I absolutely love this novel. Instead of a movie, I'd like them to do it in a mini-series like they did with Dune. Too much story for a 2 hour movie.
John P 04-13-2008, 09:47 AM Yeahbut, since the thread is about sequels we'd like to see, how does Forever War fit in?
Buckaroo Banzai? I'm still waiting for THAT sequel.
ANOTHER LOST IN SPACE MOVIE!!!!
Only If Maureen wakes up and John is in the shower and they haven't launched yet. Perhaps a different cast, plot, director, writers, SPFX, and music folks might help.
JGG1701 04-13-2008, 06:10 PM Please tell me that ain't really him????????????????????????
Arnold that is...........
Eric K 04-13-2008, 06:50 PM Good grief..the guy is 61 years old with a job that takes huge amount of time. You'd think by the responses he'd blown up to 100 lbs. overweight. He's just not very toned, but, still not in bad shape. And, I agree with John, he'd be able to get himself into filming shape in no time.

darkwanderer 04-14-2008, 01:24 PM A few years ago a studio had the options on a remake of "Forbidden Planet". Apparently when the option ran out they did not renew it. Too bad. Syd Mead, a favorite graphic designer of mine, was slated to design the "new" C57-D spaceship. I saw a preliminary drawing on it and while it wasn't a copy of the saucer from the original, you could see a lot in common with it.
Old_McDonald 04-14-2008, 02:24 PM A couple of follow up movies I'd like to see have been made are of the remaining novels of the 2001 A space Odyssey. I believe there were 2 more novels in the series after 2010.
Also, follow ups to the following would also have been nice.
1) When Worlds Collide
2) Fantasic Voyage
3) The Nineth Gate
4) Collossus: The Forbin Project
5) Flash Gordon (a la Sam Jones)
6) Mellenium
