geogrubb 04-02-2008, 12:56 PM You need B&S Manual 270962 about $12-$15 and I can't find anywhere to download it for free. The B&S site shows a IPL of the engine with a Vacu-Jet type carb and I am not familiar with them, sorry. Have a good one. Geo

This is a very simple carburetor, no floats, diaphragms or anything.
When you cleaned out your carburetor did you remove the adjusting screw on the side?
There is a little brass seat that comes out with a screw driver, you should remove it and make sure everything is clean and all the passages are open by spraying carburetor or brake cleaner through them. The tube that extends down into the fuel tank simply draws fuel up through the adjustment screw and from there is fed into the intake and then the engine.
You have to have decent compression for this carburetor to work good, and make sure the gaskets where the carburetor mounts to the engine block are good and it's tight.
strolling2 04-05-2008, 03:50 AM 30yeartech, i just compleatly rebuilt the carb, new carb kit installed, i discovered that the pick up tube on the carb was stopped up, as long as you would keep spraying carb fluid in carb, it would stay running, as soon as you quit feeding the carb with the carb cleaner, it would stall and die. i took a thin piece of wire and stuck it in the little hole were the needle valve is, took out needle valve and brass screw, thats were the hole is , on the side. un plugged hole. took the head off and discovered that the head gascket was bad to, had a lot of carbon build up on the top of valves, cleaned up valves with my dremel tool and and cleaned off top of head, removed old gascket, ill get new gascket saturday. ill let you know what happens. wish me luck.
