I'm not being a smart @$$ but wouldn't running the shock empty be about the same dampening as 5wt oil? I have seen 10wt and that was really thin. Cooking oil would be close if I had to guess.

5 wt? wow.. last time i saw 5 wt was like for mountain bike shocks.. Finishline makes a silicon 5wt shock oil for shocks on mountain bikes. Like 10$ for a 8oz bottle. There is a company also called "Buzzy" that makes shock oil thats SAE rated at 5wt and 10wt.

I think most is hydraulic oil really.. I could be wrong.

But that stuff is REAAAALLY thin.

I believe 3-in-1 oil is 5wt. As is sewing machine oil...
But not silicone.. Not sure if your looking for something that thin
that it would make a difference...
