You may have heard this story: hackers got into a message board for people suffering from epilepsy. The hackers installed a bogus message with a flashing screen that triggered episodes in several people. Don't know where the law stands on this but it would seem to be assault with intent to commit bodily harm, or should be....it's the same motive as setting actual booby traps (to hurt someone). Only the means or method - cyberspace vs meatspace - is different.
Authorities think they know who did this; or at least the general group where these types hang out. And some seem to be claiming responsibility among their own. The point is, they're pretty bold and seem to believe they can cover their tracks so well that they can't be located and, HOPEFULLY, prosecuted.
Q: Is it possible for them to hide themselves so well that authorities might not be able to ID them?
I have no idea how well someone who uses the Internet can also hide himself, if he wants to, or for how long. But this story got me wondering because I want to see these dirtbags CAUGHT. Any tech heads here know the answer? Thanks in advance.
