View Full Version : Newbie questions
hrnts69 03-30-2008, 03:59 PM Iam mainly in the RC Car section, but ive decided to try Slot Cars. Ive recenly found a Artin??? Slot Car track in my closet the other day. And i put it together and it runs awesome. So i decided to see what a slot car is made of, so i took the body off (its a off-road truck), and it comes to find out that the motor is EXACTLY the same as the motors i mod for XMODS/ Mini-Zs. Ive also been looking at online stores, so can i buy differnt cars and still be able to run these on my track?
So my questions are:
-Can differnt makes of cars be used on my Artin track? I belive its a H.O. track.
-Can i rewind my stock motor that was in my slot car (truck)? How many turns can i do?
-What do you guys use for traction compunds? My truck seems to spin out in a turn. Would Paragon Traction Force work?
-Can differnt H.O. tracks be mated with my Artin track so i can make it bigger?
Last question, iam really wanting to race these cars now, so do you guys know of any clubs/races/tracks in the Southern/Central Illinois area that race slot cars on a regular basis, if so could you give me info about the races?
Thanks
tjettim 03-30-2008, 04:45 PM The Artin ho tracks are an odd lot,I don't think much
is available to add to the track. The cars have a can
motor and either ceramic or neo traction magnets
but are heavy. HOPRA ho slot car racing is big in
illinois.

Grandcheapskate 03-30-2008, 07:25 PM I would think just about all other Ho cars will run on Artin track. However, as far as I know, Artin is out of the HO business, so getting more Artin track will be next to impossible; there never was a lot to begin with.
Your best bet is to go to another brand and you have three to choose from - Tomy, Tyco/Mattel and Lifelike. Almost everyone would put Lifelike third and most would put Tomy first, although my personal choice is Tyco/Mattel.
Check other threads about track choice and you can see the various arguments for and against Tomy and Tyco.

hrnts69 03-30-2008, 09:41 PM I think its a Artin track! It says Artin on the controllers atleast. Wouldnt AFX tracks mate to my track? Or is mismatching brands not possiable? And have any of you guys heard of ProRail Speedway in Central City? If so, could i have some info on that track? Thats the closest track ive found (30 mins.)
Thanks
mking 03-31-2008, 11:06 AM You might have an Artin HO track, but you may also have an artin 1/43 track. for every HO track artin sold they probably sold 50 1/43 tracks.
if you can post pics of the cars, then most everyone here will be able to immdiately decide if its ho or 1/43.
do your cars have wire or braided pickups, or metal plate pickups (pickup shoes contact the track rails)?
if you do have a 1/43 track, go here

hrnts69 03-31-2008, 08:37 PM Ill get pics up ASAP! As for the "car" (truck) There are no wires anywhere. The motor has tabs on it and its connected to brass things that run to the front and down to the "brushes" which connects to the track.

hrnts69 04-01-2008, 08:36 AM As for trying to figure out what my slot car (truck) is, ive think i found it. The truck body is red with stickers that say: TurboTex 21. Those are on the hood, and side panles. Then it has Maxco XXX Revolution then something i cant read. That sticker is on the tailgate and front windsheild.
Hope this helps a tad
LMk what you think my slot car (truck) is.
Thanks
Blake
