I had a meeting tonight with the one of the owners of MX131 (formerly known as Martin Motocross) that run a motocross facility in Martin, MI. They want to extend their offerings and want to include an off-road R/C track. I had a look at the property and we discussed several ideas and this place is going to be awesome! The dirt they have is perfect! It's not 100% clay, but it packs down really well and can handle water pretty well. The area of the track will be about 150' by 150' and will have all the standard amenities that you would expect from a world class facility. The area still needs to be cleared out, but this will happen soon. Once progress is made, I will make sure I will post pictures! MX131 will be the off-road facility to visit this summer! Bring your RC car and your dirt bike or ATV and have a day (or several days) of fun in Martin, MI!!

You got some Grand Rapids Racers interested. Both Electric and Gas I presume?

Ehartman what does this do for your track??

Is this by M-40?

Yep, all classes will be supported at MX131!

Just to clarify: I have been helping out M-40 Raceway in Gobles to get going, but am not an owner. Neither is that the case for MX131. Both tracks have asked me to help them promote their facilities and their races.

The MX131 is a lot closer to Grand Rapids than M-40 Raceway is. It's about 25 minutes from downtown GR! Plus it's about 30 minutes from Kalamazoo! If you've ever gone down 131 from GR to K'zoo, you will have passed the property. It's the property with the MX track on the West side of 131 just North of the drag strip! Great area for action sports!

I just got word that the clearing of the trees might start as early as this Saturday! (weather permitting). In the meantime we can run the cars on the mini MX track if we want to. We'll just have to wait for the snow to melt....

More news to come soon!

Wow this is going to be an exciting year of racing. Several new tracks to pick from. Looks like there is some competition. Is this going to be a point series?
Can't wait to here more about it. I like having options on what track to run. Hopefully good payout races. :woohoo:

Sounds like a good idea. I go by their all the time in the summer. Great location, close to me. I would like to run in the truggy class if you have one. Is the owner of this property a female? If so I think I have talked to her on line before nice lady.

I have only been dealing with one of the owners, which is Tony. I believe the other owner is male as well.... There used to be a lady who ran the place I believe.

Yep, we'll have electric & nitro, 1/10th scale & 1/8th scale (maybe even 1/5th scale if there is interest). The facility will be top notch once it's all done and it's in a prime location and easily accessible!

 That's the whole idea for this facility: to have several 'extreme sports' on the same facility!

What's even cooler is that they are planning to be a year-round facility! They are planning (not sure about the time-line) on building a large building that will house an MX track that can easily be converted into an R/C track and have R/C racing a few times per week! Plus during the winter the snowmobiles can utilize the outdoor MX track! Again, don't know the time-line, but wouldn't it be awesome?!

We started to clear out the trees and brush in the area where the final track will be. It will be a lot of work to get all of this ready, but we made a dent in it for sure! While we are clearing all this out and building the official track, there will be a temporary track elsewhere on the property. Hopefully we'll get this build in the next few weeks. We won't go all out on the temporary track since it's well.... temporary... But it will be pretty decent for practice and probably a few races. Will keep you posted.

Are you referring to the old Zeeland Motocross? That was closed a few years ago.... They guy that owned that started the outdoor track in Martin and was planning on opening an indoor track at the Martin facility. Due to health reasons he stepped down, but the new owners have an even bigger indoor facility in their plans! Unfortunately for you it won't be in Holland, but Martin ain't that far from Hudsonville for some great racing!

Here is the current status on the track:
After re-evaluating the initial location on the property for the R/C track, we have decided to move the track elsewhere on the property that would be more convenient and would more likely comply with the township ordenances. Unfortunately this does mean that less elevation changes will be incorporated, but it does mean that the R/C facility will be completed sooner! The dozer is coming out this Monday to start preparing the surface and make it ready for a nice track to be build! The area will be about 150'x75'! The plans for a world class drivers stand are in the works as well. The goal is to have a National caliber facility for R/C racing in West Michigan right in Martin, MI! I hope to have some pictures soon to give more of an idea on what it will look like!

Heys guys i have been helping with the track quite abit, and yes dave i already spoke to tony about the wheelchair, and have plans to do that. I just got home from the track and the spot for the rc track has been completly dozed and cleaned (i might have some pics later) it is coming along great and will hopefully be done soon, and ne one that has questions that ehartman cannot answer may ask me the track owner is a good friend of mine and i see and talk to him daily. As far as the dirt goes it is a nice clay mix that should work awesome and the dirtbike track is open daily and ne one that wants to come out and see it and the rc progress is more than welcome i will post more updates as things change.

Went by there today and saw lots of movement, what area is for the RC's ? the area closer to the road or behind that little shack towards 131?

The area next to 12th Street will be for R/C and BMX. We have yet to decide (to be done later this week) if R/C will be right next to the entrance or further on the north side of the property, but for sure along 12th street.

If everything keeps going like it is, we should be starting to build the track by this weekend!

The plan is to start building the first part of the track this weekend! Not the whole 150'x150' is ready yet, but we have 150'x80' to play with for now. We will build part of the track to get going and once the complete 150'x150' is ready, the track will be extended to that part. The layout that we have designed will allow us a lot of flexibility, so it's not a problem.

I should have some pictures available by Sunday...

We can finally see some progress! After changing the layout around a couple of times, I think we came up with something nice. With the help of several guys hauling dirt/clay back and forth we were able to build some jumps already. I put some lines on the picture to show some of the layout. The part you are seeing here is about half of the track. The right front will be the straight (130' long)

This thing is going to happen! Hopefully by the end of the week we'll have the tubing down and the track will be open for practice!

http://www.hartmanedesign.com/personal/mx131_04192008.jpg

Just to give you an idea on the dimensions, the straight will be 13' wide and the rest of the lanes will be 12' wide. Total area is 150'x80'.

Went and checked out the track tonight. 15 minutes (15.8 miles) from my house :woohoo: Edwin where is the pit area gonna be? I take it the other half of the track is gonna be to the North? The area West of the track along the road...Is that gonna be filled with fill for parking, pitting? What days are they looking to run electric and nitro....Saturday I hope? It's taking shape nice. The soil is kind of a clay dirt mix which will work very well.

The pit lane and drivers stand will be on the East side (Highway side) of the track. Yep, the other half of the track will be on the North side of what is finished so far. The mini track will make room for parking some time this summer, not sure when that is going to happen. As far as the area between the R/C track and 12th street, I am not 100% sure what will happen there. The owner (Tony) is trying to get that area filled in just like what they have done for the R/C track, but I am not sure how much they will able to fill in. The area right next to the entrance will be for bike cleaning, but other than that I am not sure what he wants to do with that area. R/C parking wouldn't be a bad idea! Initially the parking for the R/C track might be on the North side of the track until the mini track is (re)moved.

As far as race days, no decision has been made on that yet. I would think that initially the race days would be for both electric and nitro. The track will be open all week, except for Mondays, so plenty of time to practice when you want to!

(re)moving the mini motocross will explain everything. That will do the trick. Take in to consideration the drivers stand... What direction it will face/when racing will be. Not good looking into the sun while driving. Check your PM.

I was out at the facility again tonight and I found the west side of the property next to the R/C track was leveled out already! I was able to smooth everything out a little more and build another table top. It's all coming together nicely! We even had another 30 yards of clay delivered to finish the faces of the jumps! If you haven't done so, stop by and come check out what it is looking like!

We're finally getting closer! After some discussions last night we have decided that the drivers stand will be on the other side of the track. The drivers stand will be roughly where the bob-cat is standing in the pictures. The plan is to start putting the tubing down on Friday!
