View Full Version : Newbie Alert - Help with Cars - SG+, SRT, AW, BRST, LMNOP, ASAP!
I'm sorry if this may have been asked once before and referenced in another thread (if so, just post the link and I'll read and get caught up), but going through the alphabet soup of anacronyms for these HO cars can be a bit overwhelming and with each car manufacturer saying their car is best, it makes a bit hard to decipher which one is really good for what.
So, I was wondering if someone could explain the different cars/chassis' and what they are good for (other than class separation) or what are the characteristics of the cars. Like for instance, you can get an F1 in the Tomy AFX cars with an SG+ chassis or SRT chassis and maybe even a Turbo chassis - what's the difference and what kind of racing or even advantages does each have?
Anything to help this newbie out when he is looking to purchase a car/chassis for his new track would greatly be appreciated!
Thanks guys for the help, in advance!

A good first place to check is Greg Braun's HOSlotCarRacing.com (http://hoslotcarracing.com/) website.
Lots of information on the cars you mentioned. The site is worth spending some time exploring; this site is what got me back into slot racing.

BRS Hobbies 03-24-2008, 01:30 PM PD2,
How do you like to run your cars - really stuck down (strong mag) or not so stuck down (light mag)?
Here is a list of some cars with the cars that handle the best at the top -
AFX SRT & SG+ (best handling)
AFX Turbo
Auto World Ultra-G X-Traction
Auto World X-Traction
Auto World Ultra-G Thunderjet 500
Auto World Thunderjet 500
On some tracks the SRT might be faster than the SG+ and vice versa.
Best regards,
Brian

Hi Bill!
Thank you - you know, I should have known to go exhaust some resources. I've actually been to Greg's site a few times between looking at track sets, layouts and the like. Just never spent any further time on the cars and his details of them. Thanks for the reminder on his site! Must be that selective memory we use with women slippin over into the hobby side of my world. HAHAHA!!
Thanks!

Hey Brian!
Thank you sir! That is actually a great quick list/summary of stuck and fast cars for a quick reference! And that would definitely make sense - early on in my venture with the HO's again, I picked up an Thunderjet 500 and noticed after getting it that it was non-magnet. Cool car, but definitely teaches you how to drive the car without a magnet....all the while the tail is swinging. HAHA!
Thanks again for sharing Brian! I do appreciate it!

Thanks Scafremon! And now its a part of my bookmarks! I really appreciate it! I read through it and it definitely has some AWESOME info by AFXToo and several others! Perfect!
Too bad threads like that and others can't be pinned up top so that guys like me don't have to clutter the database with more inquiries and data.
Thanks again!

Thought I'd share with you guys what we just bought. These are all SG+'s, except the GT40 and Porsche 962. As you can see, my daughter and I like F1 and LeMans racing cars! What we have are:
Tomy AFX - SG+ F1 #1 McDonalds
Tomy AFX - SG+ F1 #3 Indeck/Forsythe
Tomy AFX - SG+ #63 Mercedes Sauber LMP
Tomy AFX - SRT #14 Porsche 962 AFX LMP
Tomy AFX - SRT #1 MKII GT40
All very sweet and fast cars! The one observation my daughter had was that she thought the F1 cars went faster than the LMP cars. I don't think this is the case but instead, more of an optical illusion because the LMP bodies are a bit bigger than the F1's.
Regardless, we are having fun and have already been racing the F1's extensively!
Thanks for all of the help!

Sorry - had one too many pictures than we could up load, so here is the GT40.
Enjoy!
