View Full Version : A 200 Acre Surprise! (long read)

Well, I went out and bought 200 acres of farmland today. It has 4 empty barns, and a bunch of fencing, an old factory of sorts, and a house smack in the middle. Apparently, the farm has been abandonned since 1963, and since then it has been government land, so I got it very cheap. It is a very spooky place, and nobody knows much about it. All they know is that is was simply called "Farmer's Market" and was founded sometime in the mid 1950's. They have no idea how successful it was, who founded/owned it, or even who worked there.

Well, I bought an ATV to do some rounds around the property, and look what I found in the south-east corner of my property! It wasn't even on the sheet, and it looks like it has been sitting here since the farm went out of business.

Well, I opened the door, and the key was lying in plain view on the passenger's seat. I tried the ignintion...what a nice sounding engine. It is amazing how the engine has been preserved for this long. I revved it a bit and then I turned it off.

I checked the glove compartment for anything that could tell me about the owner, and all I found was an envelope addressed to "Sabrina Macintire". I opened the envelope catiously, and this is what the letter read:

December 19, 1962
Dearest Sabrina,

I am afraid the end is here. The farm has been doing terrible. I had to lay off 25 workers, and all I have left is Sam and Jeff, both handling three departments. It is hard to look back at all of the amazing times, where the farm was prosperous, and I had something to my life. But, now, I am afraid the prosperous times are finished, and all I have now are memories. The only symbol I have of the good old times is this here truck. I bought it when the farm was first started, and I had it painted special. This picture is all that I am clinging to, and I need you to take it. Here it is, in all of its glory.

I don't know where I will go, or what will happen to me, all I know is that someday, somehow, this farm will be prosperous again.

Until Nextime,
Jerry Hues

WOW! I now know a little bit more about this farm. Here are more pictures of the truck.

Wow, it hasn't been touched at all in 45 years.

thanks for the great comments!! I hope to make more of these little WIP stories, and once I get better at WIP's, hopefully I can trade them packaged with a long story attached somehow.

Matt, GREAT IDEA! Stupid Squirrel has been doing this for some time and has really made it an art form. The first few that comes to mind was the PIP Bat Mobile or last years HTKK entry. You can search for both of those and see his style as well.

I think the back story concept is a TON of fun and really adds to the overall presentation. The only catch is you have to have talent to write. Something I have tried, only too realize I was not the next great American novelist! You guys who can do it, should do it. It really makes the whole concept come together!

Cool story, Matt. Had me going for awhile there. I was like, What? He just bought 200 acres? Isn't he still in school??
Keep it up. Good work.

Thanks for the great comments, guys!

I tried to do another one on the red Rivera(?) HW mystery car, but it didn't turn out the way I had hoped...:freak:

Looks like orange is a good color for me. I think I will try it on that orange MB VW Bug.
