LOS ANGELES (Associated Press) -- "Jericho," the post-apocalyptic CBS drama whose devoted fans rallied to save it from cancellation, has met its end.
The show failed to increase its audience and will air its final episode Tuesday, the network said Friday.
"Without question, there are passionate viewers watching this program; we simply wish there were more," CBS Entertainment President Nina Tassler said in a statement. "We have no regrets bringing the show back for a second try."
"Jericho," which stars Skeet Ulrich, was canceled last May, triggering a fan protest that deluged the network with about 40,000 pounds of peanuts _ a tribute to the defiant "Nuts!" line uttered by Ulrich's character in the first-season finale.
CBS relented and ordered seven new episodes, which started airing in February.
Networks rarely reverse a show's cancellation, but CBS has proven its flexibility at least once before. In 1983, after "Cagney & Lacey" was canceled and the network was bombarded with protests, the police drama was brought back in 1984 _ and ran successfully until 1988.
The network also likely took into consideration the dent a long hiatus put in the show's viewership.
Last fall, "Jericho" was averaging 10.5 million viewers. When it returned in the spring, it drew about 8.1 million, about a 23 percent decline from the first half of the season. It's been averaging about 6 million viewers in its current run.

That's too bad. Jericho is/was the best show on TV right now. But I'm sure CBS can find another inane piece of crap, like Dancing with the Stars or American Idol, to fill the time slot with. Course I won't be watching but that's ok, I have plenty of models to build.

I wonder how much money one could make with a "Dancing with American Idol" show...

...at least Jericho lasted longer than Skeet Ulrich's last show, MIRACLES...

And longer than Firefly

But will it spawn a movie or movies?

I can only hope that someone at Skiffy sees this, and tries to take over.

Notice I ain't holding my breath...

It sounds like even if they were interested, that may be only a slim possibility. They shot a season ender or a series ender meant to give closure to the fans, and they're going to do the series ender. That might make it hard to continue the story in the future, but I guess we'll see tonight.

When they release season 2 on DVD I hope they include both "last" episodes.

Well, it's over. I must say they did a good job of wrapping up all of the loose ends. It's just a pity that there won't be any new episodes to watch anymore.

I was amused by Nina Tassler's comment. "Without question, there are passionate viewers watching this program; we simply wish there were more."

There's no way the execs at CBS have ANY idea how many people are watching or were watching Jericho. The ratings systems be they Nielsen or whomever haven't been right or accurate for years so to think that they'd be correct and representative for this one show, now, is ludicrous.

I guess it's for the better, ,like I said in an earlier post, it'll give me more time to build models. And I think I'm gonna add a Texas Air National Guard F-16 to the list.

That thought occurred to me as I watched the show, which I'd recorded on my DVR.

I watch several hours of TV a week, but darned near none of it live, so I wouldn't count in the ratings (of course, I do skip through the commercials, so my viewership doesn't do much to help sell advertising slots ...).

I remember it being frustrating several years ago when my wife and I got one of the Nielsen weekly diaries. There was no place to put a lot of our viewership, which was at our convenience on the DVR.

I read an article a couple of months ago saying that a significant chunk of Jericho's audience watched it by TiVo. I'm not sure how they arrived at that figure, but I wasn't shocked to see that. The television industry has a lot of changes to figure out soon. The ability to watch what I want, when I want, and zip through the commercials is a boon to me, the consumer, but it doesn't do much for the TV business model.

I loved that show. Hawkins was the best. Me myself am sick of reality shows. We need another Andy Griffith show. Don't know if any of you ever watched the show called Brisco County Junior. Very funny western. Had a guy who talked like Elvis. Had wes Studi as an Indian who sat on the porch and said "howdy" to evryone. It was a riot. Only had maybe 4 or 5 shows. I watch CSI on mMonday and Thursday and NCIC on Tuesday. Have got put out with Lost got to stupid. My wife said somebody should have a channel with just cancelled shows. Could be a hit for there are plenty to choose from. Just my 2 cents
