I have had several engines with stuck intake vales (mostly 5 & 5.5hp briggs) I have always replaced the valves, cut the seats, lapped the new valves, and replaced the head gasket, and manifold gaskets. I charge the customer a couple of hours to do it. I belive in doing a good job, not piecing things together.

Yesterday a man came to pickup his tiller. He had a total come apart. Said he has the valves unstuck every couple of years. He said that nobody has ever used new parts. They just pull the head twist on the valve till its loose. Put the head back on and send him on his way. Said they have never charged him more than 45 minutes labor. Said he would NEVER be back. (hopefully).

What do others of you do in your shops? Should I just do as little as possible? Use the old valves? Am I charging too much time? Sorry for the rambleing, this has realy ticked me off. I have never had any complaints about the valve jobs I have done before. Maybe this is just the freak customer who has to gripe.

Thanks for listening.
