Is the Nascar place next door still available? If so it could be a possible location for an oval track...What is the price per sqft for the lease? I have built a couple oval tracks and have some friends that would be interested in investing time and money...What do you think?

We will probably get out there between 9 and 10 and be there until late in the afternoon usually around 4.

Cool, I'll probably get out there around 1 or 2.

What classes do you guys run? I'm considering getting back into RC after a long absence.

We run 2wd electic buggy and truck mostly with some hope of getting 4whl buggy going.

Well, I had a really good time out there today. Good to be back racing. The track was nice, plenty of traction (when I was able to stay in the line), I thought & a full day of good clean racing. You guys did a really good job of getting it ready (or keeping it right during the off-season, whichever). Anyway, I am looking forward to racing there this season. If I don't end up working every Saturday like last year, that is.
Jady & Chad, thanks so much for your setup help. Between the two of you, I was able to shave almost 3 seconds off of my average lap times & that added an extra lap for me in the main. I showed up with a brand new, pretty much undriven B4 with no setup, no practice since last season & no clue. You guys really helped me out alot. By the end of the day, my car felt pretty good. With a little practice, I think I might be able to give you guys a little competition as the season progresses.

See you all next weekend (hopefully)!

I came out and watched you guys race for a little while today, it looks like a really fun track.

I'm thinking about buying a nitro truck. If I do will I be able to race it there?

Bodido
03-21-2004, 12:30 AM
Had a blast today as well. Boy, I've missed the dirt. Had a killer main. Pretty darn close racing. It will only get better as we get further in the season.

Hopefully we will soon have a good showing in stock truck and gas truck. Mod buggy looks to be the popular class for week one at least. For those that don't have a mod motor, please don't be the least bit discouraged. Mod buggy was won with a stock motor today.... Second place (me), stock motor. My lap times were way more consistant with a stock.

We're trying to get gas truck going. I have one, as do a few others. So it's going to happen. I really can't wait to see the class grow. I will run gas truck as well as mod buggy in two weeks. Even if we don't have enough to make a class we can let gas truck run with electric trucks. When we have enough gas trucks to justify running them seperately, we can run some 15 or 20 minute mains. That's what makes gas racing fun.... Long mains and pit stops.

Scott.... No prob man. I've got a ton of time on the B4 at Stream now. I've tried all kinds of setup ideas with it, so feel free to pick my brain. You mentioned that you're nose was wanting to drop on the jumps, I believe. If you're running the kit setup, you probably have 30 wt oil and #1 pistons in the rear shocks, if I remember correctly. You may want to try changing to #2's in the rear. I found that the #1's tend to allow the back end of the car to compress too much on the face of the jump, and when the car leaves the jump it kicks the rear end up as it leaves the lip. It should fly a little more level with #2s all the way around. If you want about the same amount of steering switch to 25 weight oil in the back when using #2's. If you want to pick up some more steering, run 30 wt with 2's. Give it a shot.
If the track is pretty bumpy, #1's are usually better.

EmptyCanRacing
03-21-2004, 12:36 PM
Yeah, #1 & 30 wt in the rear. Jady mentioned green Springs in the rear, I was running silver. Will the softer springs help to keep the rear from kicking up off the jumps? I may try that first, at leat until my shocks need a rebuild. Call me lazy, but I really, really hate working on shocks. If that's what it takes to get her right, I'll do it though.
You make a very good point & I never thought about that (the compression issue) when I was nose diving. I figured the front was too heavy & was thinking about adding weight to the rear. I like you guys' suggestions much better.
I think I pretty much have the steering issue resolved. I removed the front camber spacers & Jady fixed up my ride height. Then it had plenty of steering & felt a little twitchy. I re-installed the camber washers & the car settled down a bit but still had enough steering with just the right amount of push. That was just in time for the main, so now all I have to do is practice a little to get used to the feel of the car.
I think I'll install a 19 turn machine wound for next weekend, if we're running mod & skip the 12 turn double, at least until my car is dialed. I don't know, my tired old MVP didn't do too bad yesterday. I had enough speed, it was my lack of practice & loose car that hurt me. I still had a blast though & at least was able to keep it pretty clean.
I would love to get a nitro truck to run out there. I almost did at X-Mas. I had a gift certificate, but Rusty didn't have an RC10GT in stock when I went & that GC was burning a hole in my pocket so I spent it on Hop-Ups for my T-Maxx. Oh well, the season is very young, who knows what might happen? Maybe I'll be able to afford one this summer. Maybe I can find something used, slap in a new piston & sleeve & go racing. That's the problem with used nitro, you never know what you're getting into.

racerjohn

I just picked up a used RC10GT on ebay for $150 with a radio. I can't wait to get it and bring it up and start practicing.

Do they stock parts for the RC10GT at the hobby shop if front of the track?

Bodido
03-22-2004, 11:56 PM
Stream stocks pretty much every part for the GT, save for the chassis. If it's not in stock Rusty can get it very quickly.

Scott: The greens will help it jump more level, but the the #2 pistons will do a better job. I'm actually running greens in the rear with Losi 56 (3 hole) pistons. They're kind of in between AE 1's and 2's. The only problem with running green rears is that if you overjump frequently, you will pay the price. The car will bottom very easy if you don't downside the big double. When that happens the car wants to spin, since it bounces back off the dirt, and takes all of the weight off of the rear tires right in the middle of the turn. Greens may make the car push a little, though. My car was a little too pushy for my taste even with very worn rear tires, and I was doing a lot of tricks to compensate. I was running front camber links at full length, and even using #1 pistons in the front. Battery all the way forward, etc.

As for motor, I was faster with a monster stock than a 19 turn... Just easier to be more consistant. But after the main I put in a 12x3 Peak Carrera based mod. I turned back the timing to only 6 degrees and geared it 20/81. It felt great. It probably made only HALF as much power as it would have at 18 degrees, but it was still more power than a 19 and was actually smoother and easier to drive.

Actually the forecast is now improved to partly cloudy. I looked at the track today while loitering at the shop. Looked good. A puddle on the back straight, but other than that not too shabby. I'm very hopeful. Buggy and gas truck are both ready. After this past Saturday I'm really looking forward to the non hacking and screaming Stream off-road goodness.

The track will be beautiful tommorrow. Hard as a rock and fast. I tried holeshots in this condition and was very happy.

The weather should be sweet as well. Maybe we're getting some payback for last season. :)

Yeah, I was just gonna run a 19 turn spec mod. The weather doesn't look too promising today & I'm just so lazy & tired after working 12's all week. 3:30 to 3:30 wears you out. I think I'll have to sit today out. That bites 'cause I was all ready to get dirty. I really hope its sunny next weekend. It's hard to get motivated when one's not sure if the bottom is gonna drop out halfway through the heats.
Anyway, I'll change out my motor & be ready for next weekend. Gonna practice & experiment with my setup some this week after work.
Damn, now it looks like the weather is gonna hold out but it's too late for me to get up there in time. Oh well...

Has anyone ever heard of an old (I assume out of business) manufacturer named Minicar? I picked up a 1/10 chassis from a friend who isn't into r/c anymore & told me it was a BoLink. When I started taking it apart to clean & restore it, I came across a few of the plastic parts (rear pod & steering knuckles) that have "Minicar" & part #'s molded in. It's in excellent shape, brand new almost. The 'glass plates aren't even scratched or chipped, as pan cars often do.
I think it may be an old dirt oval car. It's a pan car chassis with fiberglass plate arms to support the aluminum oil filled coil over shocks & it came with an old BoLink wedge or "mud bus" dirt oval body. It's a 2wd pan car but with independant suspension & real shocks on all 4 corners, not the T-bar monoshock rear (or triple shock rear end) and tiny spring front suspension like we see on today's pan cars.
It has BoLink body posts and a live rear axle with a short dog bone on the middle so the arms can move. Just to give you an idea of it's age (I estimate 15 - 20 yrs old), it has a very basic, working Airtronics Champ ESC, a Futaba Magnum Sport FP-T2PB radio (I had one of these when I was about 15) and an old "Bolink" stock motor made by Race Prep. Remember them? Anyway, I just thought it would be a cool little project car/shelf queen, but would like to get some more info on it & find out what it really is. It had wierd skinny & tall BoLink foams on the front & old school hard rubber giant knobbies on the rear. The rear rims are Champion R/C-2's and the rear tires are Ishipla RC Jiken # 2001's. Everything works, although I have installed modern electronics, capped oval tires and a sweet '69 Carger body that I painted to replicate the General Lee. The entire car was bushed, but I have replaced them with bearings.
Anyway, if anyone has an idea what it might be, please let me know. I'll post pictures &/or bring it to the track as soon as I get a chance.

Bodido
04-13-2004, 07:57 AM
Scott...

You might want to try posting that in the oval forum. I'd bet money that you'll get the answer you're looking for. Those guys get big kicks out of these old historical cars, haha.

I'm getting ready to go work on the track. I'm going to try and smooth out some spots and make some subtle changes. It should be loamy. A bit different than last week. The weather looks to be incredible for tommorrow. I know of a few more people who will be making it that couldn't last week.

So if you can't make it..... We'll have no choice but to assume you were scared!!

No yer skeerd. Skeerd to lose yer job. That's alright. It's an excused absence. :) People that are off from work who don't show..... Well, you will be punished.

I made some changes to the infield section. A real cool timing, double double. Should be fun, slightly tricky, but not too awful hard.

We also will be having a new monster truck class. So far it looks like 7 guys will be showing to run that tommorrow. Mostly Savages and a few T-maxxes.

A few stock truck guys, and a slew of mod buggies I believe.
