Hey everybody. I hope to make it over there on Saturday to race (finally), and I haven't been able to run on the new track yet. Can anyone tell me what the track conditions are like so I can dial a descent setup into my B3? It is off road this weekend, right? Thanks...

Track is pretty bumpy right now. Layout, if you haven't seen it is pretty tight and technical. Holeshots still seem to be the tire of choice for now. I think when we run on it more, and continue to work on smoothing the track out, we'll start running tires with smaller pins (square fuzzies, taper pins, etc....)

You'll probably want green springs all around, you wouldn't want to run anything stiffer than silvers, I believe. If you have 25 degree caster blocks, you'll probably prefer those over 30's, imo.

Do you have a mod motor? I think pretty much everyone with buggies so far are planning on mod.

Thanks for the info, it'll help alot. Yeah, I've got a mod I can slap in for Saturday.

I've got an electric boat, if the track washes out we could race on "Lake Stream" :freak:

We will start Nitro 1/10 scale off road racing along with the other 1/10 classes on June 21. Mufflers or tuned exhaust will be required. The new track has yet to have an offical race due to all the rain. We still need to get the lap counting loop installed. This should only take a short time.
Let us have a good turnout. So spread the word.

Dave needs to bring that B4 up north. Haha. It's so responsive to setup changes, so I know you'll have a blast with it.

Rusty: I believe either Ryan or Derrick has the extension cord. We realized it was still outside after everything was locked up.

Matt: You haven't missed a lot as far as off road goes. Last Saturday was the first time the weather allowed us to run all year! Wouldn't have happened either without Ryan pumping off the excess water with a sump pump the day before. Hope the MX is going well. I know I miss the hell out of it!! I don't miss having my ribs taped up, but that's another story. I got to ride a friend's 2002 CR 250 a couple of weeks ago. Big fun!! It brought tears to my eyes. That might have been because I didn't have goggles. Lol. Not a whole lot has changed since '90, though. The bike felt a bit lighter and thinner than my 250, real low 'cg. Seemed to have a whole lot of bottom end power compared to what I remember, and his bike was totally stock. Mine had all the Pro Circuit tricks (cylinder porting, pipe, silencer, etc...)

Jady: LOL Everytime i look at Alabama under my name i wonder what the $#@# posessed me to move here! Things are getting better actually... got a decent job and slowly getting out from under my bills. I applied for loans to goto school... ill start with an associates degree in engineering. Hopefully i can get everything back on time to start this fall.

Chad: Yes the B4 IS responsive. I took it to a track in Baton Rouge LA yesterday... 110x60 indoor track with redclay/topsoil dirt. Its only 2.5 hours away in the Lude! :D Anyways... the B4 is one bad machine... it jumps like a truck... stable when it lands... and only flipped when i had it land with a good 45 degree angle to it. Most guys there last night were running red tapers with bomb one inserts... and kinwald prescrubbed fronts with 3/4 foam. The track was drying out (airconditioning)... so i opted for M3 holeshots and bomb ones with 8175M3 fronts and 3/4 bomb ones. The track had sweet jumps... a well timed double into a double/triple... and stutter bumps leading to the jumps to complicate matters. The only spot i had trouble with was a table top in the middle of a left 45 degree turn... set up wide right blip the throttle/ tap the brake to bring it down the backside and throttle hard to the next turn. The face of the jump was inconsistent though and made it hard to bang it out every time in traffic. Of course... more stick time will help too! I was unfortunate enough to only have a 10 turn Ti at my disposal... so the B4 got inducted into the HP hall of fame...OH MY GOD... why did i ever get out of offroad?! The rest of the packs i ran a 19T, and learned to appreciate this motor over stock. The people at the track were really great... they are in the new Car Action mag in that Losi ad showing local top guns. The track is Red Stick Raceway... add a www and a .com and you can see pics of the track. They had JLap, fired it up so everyone could get laptimes... took personal transponders too! They are having a Cajun Classic in August... i think it will be my first "race"... i still need some practice. I know i have typed enough... but i have to say one thing about the durability of the B4... i didnt do any serious lawn darts... or clip anything at full throttle... but i tried landings that were smooth and some that gave a full throttle/chassis !smack! lap after lap... nothing gave way... everything is still tight on it. It just took it and rolled on! I smiled all the way home from the track... couldnt tell if it was all the fun i had with the B4... or smokin Camaros on I-10 through Mississippi!

 Rusty, I absolutely agree. The new track is awesome! You guys really did a great job. I will be there, ready to rock (or roll). I just hope my b3 can keep up with the pace. I dialed in a new setup, so hopefully I can avoid a repeat of my embrasing performance last time we raced off-road. We'll see...

Wow.... It sure is good to get off-road going again. There was some good fun racing. Seemed pretty clean and courteous from my end as well. Dave and Alex go brutal on each other, though. It's kind of like anti-team driving. Haha. It's seems like everyone was having a good time, which is saying a lot, considering how rediculously hot and humid it was.

How about the track, though? It seems the surface just keeps getting better and better, the more it is run on. Tire wear looked to be pretty brutal, but something pretty encouraging happened towards the end of the day. After the mains were over Ryan and I were running my buggy, so he could check out my setup. It felt like we were getting better and better traction the more we ran. It really felt more dialed than ever at the end of the day. When we pulled it off the track we noticed that the tires were very, very worn. So it seems that well worn tires may actually be better!! This would be a cool thing. For those that are curious I was running M3 square fuzzies with Trinity extra firm foams. I think extra firm foams are vital!! I'd like to also try holeshots and evil twins, but I don't think tread pattern will make a whole lot of difference, I think it's more a matter of compound.

Did anyone run any Losi tires in buggy? I'd bet that red tapers would work well, provided you could avoid ever getting out of the groove. Maybe X2000's?

On the subject of compounds, I saw Pavidas posted this on another site:
"The new compound will be called R2. The R2 compound is a completly
different compound than the M2 or M3 tires. The R2 was developed for
blue groove tracks and also works better in the heat than M2 or M3. The
tires will be available within the next month and will be offered in
the truck tires and some 1/10 buggy tires. We have not done much
testing with the new compounds in the 1/8 so for now we will only offer
it in the 1/10 line."

Yeah, race day was awesome! The track really is getting better & better. I finally found a descent setup for my B3 & it really felt planted. I broke early and bailed 'cause of the heat, but look forward to next time. I gotta get a tent... I would have stayed & fixed the buggy.

Did we have a good time or what. Good racing, good food, good time. Remember we now run nitro on the dirt track. Track is looking very good.
What can I say we have a good group of racers. They work on the track, keep the area clean, help put up and take down track equipment and cook the food. Thanks to everyone. See you on race day.

How would you guys feel about doing a trophy race some time in the future? I'm thinking after the Nat's are over.... Maybe mid September? Entry would be more to cover Trophies and a little grub. How about a two day deal? Three qualifiers on Saturday, one qualifier and a main on Sunday. Just thinking out loud. Obviously this would mainly be up to you Rusty, well your race director as well. Haha.

Just thinking out loud.

EmptyCanRacing: I'm not trying to be a jerk, and jump right down your throat or anything, but... Please, NO "Down with Hobbytown" or anyone else in here. What does that have to do with Stream having a trophy race? If you have something against Hobbytown or anyone else, keep it a seperate issue. Create your own thread for it, whatever. I'm sure Rusty appreciates the loyalty and all, but don't show it by negativity towards other businesses. Personally, I race everywhere. So do a whole bunch of others here. RC racing is a very small world, and about 99% of the people involved in RC racing are good people. Comments like that don't make it very easy for us all to get along when we are at other shop's tracks, which some of us do on a weekly basis. Nor does it make racers who frequent other tracks feel welcome at Stream, Which they always ARE. If we were to have a trophy race, I'd hope all the local racers feel welcome. I would want the best turnout possible.

No worries. You should know that Hobbytown's are LOCALLY owned franchises.... Not exactly Enron, but I do know what you mean. You gotta support those that are good to you..... Especially when they provide you with killer tracks to race at.

Yeah, I know they are localy owned and have had nothing but good experiences in Newport News. I had some rather unpleasant problems with the service & knowledge of the staff at one down south, it's location I won't mention.
