Hey BUBBA i was wondering if you could tell me what shock oil your running, if its top secret give me a hint.Im running 30 front 25 rear and was thinking of going thicker.JADY you run AE what do you think.BUBBA,s truck looked good going past me.hahaha

Shonuff
04-01-2002, 06:41 PM
more than likely comparing the 2 trucks shock viscosity will not help. The difference in volume from the losi to the AE makes a big difference, not to mention the number of holes on the piston. I run 35f and 30r. I heard it got real bumpy so going lighter might actually be better, but this is all dependent on weather

Jady, knowing that truck (Daves old truck) it probably has custum piston holes so the oil viscosity has different damping properties depending on the orifice size. You will to learn calculate this junk when you take Fluid Mechanics your junior year. It still gives me nightmares. Bad Memory, Bad Memory.......aaargh.

Well its supposed to be clear this weekend, but rain tonight so the track conditions will probably be the same as last weekend. I went by the track last night and the water puddles have finally disappeared from the weekend. Therefore, given the time frame between tonight (rain) and this weekend it should be traction city. Step pins and bow ties gallore.

yes its a 19 turn motor.....have a 19 turn class....a little more power than stock but dont have to worry about people running 8 singles when they cant even keep a stock motor on the track.....just something different...myself, Jady, Josh, and Shane are for it...get a few more and we have a class.....Matt

About that 19 turn/spec class, Rusty is ordering the chameleon pros are these the the motors to run or would a speed gems 2 with adjustable timing be better.I have an speed gems to run and theres no way of telling what turn it is.If tha armature isnt tagged how will we know or does it even matter.

fytefire
04-08-2002, 06:18 PM
yes the chameleon is the motor im talking about..i guess it doesnt matter what kind it is as long as its a 19 turn motor. i dont think the chameleon has adjustable timming..thats why it a "spec" motor....anyway I hope enough people run a 19 turn..it gonna be a fun class..........Matt

I really would prefer open mod, but thats just me. My reasons being:

1 When we decided to run mod at the spur of the moment 9 people broke out mods. So you know we'll have a class right off the bat, without a ton of people buying motors.

2 Alot of people that own 19 turn motors have a half dozen of them, and they only use one or two , because they're the good ones. It's like stock but a little faster.

3 When people come from out of town, or for their first time there, they often expect to see a stock and a mod class. It will be very common for someone to have a mod in their pit box. Someone happening to have a 19 turn would be alot less common.

4 Mod is already a ROAR class

5 Cheating is pretty much a non-issue with open mod. I'm not saying cheating has ever been a problem at Stream. It hasn't from what I can see.

6 Having alot of power is very very fun. It also is easy to have way too much power for that track, so I think it won't make it a power contest. You can run an 8 double if you want, but you're crazy to think it'll make you faster.

I'll admit my bias, because I have a mod already. ;) But I think there are alot of pluses to open mod.

You can run 19 turn in open mod, and at Stream it would be very competitive with any wind anyway.

Don't get the wrong idea. I'll run whatever we decide.

We should try to talk about it more on Saturday with the whole crowd.

May have to try doing that gas truck thing if there is much of a class there. Especially if I have someone volunteering to pit. That was one thing always hanging me up from going in the past. I just need to give my truck a bit of a going over just to make sure it's ship shape. I've got to break in the engine, as well.

I'm guessing I'll need step-pins. Anybody have any other ideas or setup tips for Debs? What about gearing?

fytefire
04-09-2002, 12:10 AM
I dont care...run mod...im for it.ill be there with both just let me know whtat up..19 turn was just to help some people get into that might not want to spend $50-$60 on a mod motor...and Bubba is right you can run a 19Turn in open mod and do rather well with it..that track isnt about the fastest motor you can buy...Matt

Bodido
04-09-2002, 01:35 PM
I agree that 19 turns would be about as competitive as any other wind. There are plenty of machine wound mods that cost less than Chameleons too. You get what you pay for, but Stream just isn't a horsepower track, so hot motors will win you nothing.

I'm not the kind of guy to bash products typically, but.... Those speed gems suck!! I saw Ryan melt two endbells in one day, and I know he wasn't doing anything wrong. These were brand new motors bought at the track that day, btw. He wasn't overgearing or running alot of timing, but his endbells were a pile of goo after two or three minutes. I've seen lots of people mention the same problem on the net, so it's no myth. This happens to alot of people. Hopefully everyone at Stream will try to steer clear of those. I always hate to see that "I broke something expensive" look on someones face at the track. I've had those days (ask Jady about the money race in Carolina), and they bite.

slower lap times than stock--we all over motored

josh won it though

fytefire
04-10-2002, 11:13 PM
we were like 2-3 laps off the pace when we were running mod....im gonna try to run stock and mod if they give me time at the track to switch back and forth between the 2...see ya Sat....Matt

Damn, I have to get a mod motor so I can wreck twice as fast.

Bodido
04-11-2002, 11:10 AM
I think Josh and two or three others did 16 laps. It's true, though... We all had too much power. I do think traffic was a bit of a factor as well. For the first two laps I couldn't see the whole track well because I could only get one shoulder close to the railing. But, after three or four people broke there was plenty of room on the stand.

I hope to put up a better fight this week. I replaced a servo, which took about 1/4" of slop out of the steering. Seriously.... A 1/4" !! I also threw in new outdrives. So, if I do as poorly as last week, I just suck. Hehe. Maybe I need to hire a driver.

fytefire
04-11-2002, 03:00 PM
in the mod run Josh won it with 14 laps...Charlie was 2nd with 14 laps..I was 3rd with 13 laps....we were way off the pace.....it will pick up the more we run mod....Matt

Bodido

Polishing up the titanium hack bumper right now. If I missed anyone last week, let me know. I'll get em tommorrow. I'm doing the double header, so I should be able to tear up quite a few trucks AND tc's. I've had a really lousy week at work, so I'll be crazzzzyyyy aggressive. You know how Steve always congradulates people for skillfully checking up, well you won't be hearing any of that in my qualifiers. As for the mains, lets just say you might even want to wear a helmet on the driver's stand. I'm gonna be THAT BAD. If that isn't bad enough, I plan on stomping on the toes of all the spectators. How dare they come to the track without a car for me to smash!!

To those who don't know me, these are jokes kids. :D

You still might want to bring a dustpan!

all this talk and theries I'v been around R/C racn 16 years now
I hav'nt seen everything but i'v seen a lot horsepower is not everything. u still got to get it down to the ground WE PROVED LASTWEEK we can overpower the track. now this was a nother class at school, but from the talk i see only 1 or 2 people payed atention just like i was back in hi school. look i'v got a 6 single but i could not race it at this track wrong motor for this track.
mod class turned 14 laps not to impressive when stock class turned 16/17 laps ihave 4-19t motors which should haveplenty of power but i'm going to try a 21 double should increase my speed and cut better lap times, with out overpowering the track go quick notfast

anybody hear SLOWER IS FASTER try it for yourshelf with a stop watch
to slow is c main
a lot of new drivers to the sport come in by the best equimpment badest motors(acording to salesman) and don't have a clue on how to drive which makes them a obstical theythink with all that power they can't be beat only to get crushed by the more experienced drivers driving within there limits this track can be overdriven and is.
E-NUF for now C-YA! B..........
