View Full Version : What up Stream racers
Bodido 04-22-2003, 10:50 AM Personally, I'd rather we do open mod than 19 turn. It's a real ROAR class, and you can use any motor, including a 19 turn. Chances are, that most people would be faster with a 19 (or maybe even a stock) than a 10 turn, but we won't shut anyone out with it being open. Everyone who shows up will have legal motors for the big dog class. Plus we got to get ready for Nats.
I can see us having a decent stock truck class, a stock buggy class, and a good mod buggy class real soon.
Shonuff 04-22-2003, 02:40 PM ryan
the buggy is alot better than me. i couldnt drive it as hard as i needed to. no fault of the buggy, but mainly me not being comfortable with it. not to mention the track (i know chad, dont be hatin').
i think i may get one of these things, they are fun
Bodido 04-22-2003, 03:19 PM I just got done cutting all of the outside wall plywood. I also painted one side of each piece with white latex paint. I did the inside. I figure it will be easier to paint the outside when it is up and installed. There are eight pieces, each eight feet by thirty-six inches. I figure we need to sink them about six inches, and connect them with vertical 2x4's, that go down maybe a foot. So they'd be 42". We don't have those yet.
TexRacer 04-22-2003, 03:33 PM Have you guys considered surrounding the track with center blocks?Yes it is a lil more pricey but you will soon see about the wood.
Put the center blocks 2-3 high.It works very nice and still easy to do maintance on.Just a thought.See you guys next month.

EmptyCanRacing 04-22-2003, 04:15 PM There was a dirt track in AL a long time ago lined with cinder blocks. Stream's irrigation pipe (or boards now, I guess) is definately the way to go.
With cider blocks, you had better be able to drive. On the other hand, Rusty could sell alot of arms & turnbuckles...
As far as tires go, I think whatever hooks up & that should be up the individual. (Are we talking about spec tires for the track or a specific class?)
For a class, I think open mod rather than 19 turn...
Sprinklerman80 04-22-2003, 04:46 PM Chad, I got with Brandon on that Bobcat and he said they charge about $120 a weekend but he thinks he can get us a discount. It will be on a trailer, we just need to arrange everything and go pick it up. Let me know when we have a plan together as far as when the dirt will be there and all that so I can get this lined up. Even so $120 want be that bad between all of us. I will check some other places closer to the track and see what they charge so maybe we want have to toe one all the way from P.town, Shane, I will probably continue to use Holeshot's . I have had the best results with those. If you guy's just want to run open mod I would like to check out some of those Krypton's. If we want to do a 19 turn class the Chameleons and Fantoms are always good. Later, Ryan
Bodido 04-22-2003, 05:18 PM No spec tires. I think the general consensus is mod, instead of 19 turn. That way, if you have a motor, it's legal. Plus, a number of us are wanting to get used to mods for the nats, anyway. I personally wouldn't be bothered if people wanted to run brushless in mod, as well.
Bodido 04-22-2003, 05:22 PM Does anyone have access to some 2x4's, before we have to buy some. They don't have to be perfect since they'll be painted. We'll be needing about 16 that are 42" long.
Pushingood 04-22-2003, 06:56 PM Let me Know if I need to chip in some money on the track stuff.I got more money than time right now.It sounds like ya'll are getting serious now.It ought to be sweet.
RDLIN-IT 04-23-2003, 08:46 AM Got with Rusty yesterday and he ordered tires, B4 body's, and Lunsford turnbuckles for the B4. To everyone that has a B4, they are a must have. Just ask Chad. We are going to run open mod rather than 19 turn this will make it easier for everyone. Chad, as far as the 2x4's go they are not that expensive we could probably get all that we need for around $20. What we need is to get the money together to pay for the bobcat. Probably all we need is around 15-$20 a person so if everyone is ok with that let us know. Yes, we are taking the building of the track seriously. Its going to be done right the first time. We should have a larger turnout this year and we all need to spread the word about the new layout. Chad Rusty is not going to open until 1 today so if your going to start putting up the wall give him a call. He mentioned helping you if you needed it.
Bodido 04-23-2003, 09:05 AM I currently don't have access to the big truck, so I'll have to find a way to get the wood there.
I thought I'd throw this in there to get everyone hyped up.
Bodido 04-23-2003, 09:08 AM There will be some subtle changes to the layout. It will be a bit more rounded than it appears above.

Bodido 04-24-2003, 07:59 AM 2x4's are allready covered. Thanks guys. The retaining wall for the banked sweeper is about half done now. I plan on doing a bit more work on that today. It should be done before the weekend.
This Sat. will be a day of hard work for those man enough to show. Haha. If we can get the new dirt there by Sat., we'll have plenty to do. If not, we'll still have quite a bit that can be done.
The amount of dirt to get:
We need allot!! Rusty is ready to buy some, but some of us are planning to contribute some extra money so we can get more. It would be very hard to have too much dirt. With the expanded dimensions, it would be very easy to get too little. If anyone wants to help in this regard (cough, cough, financially) call me. 599-5317
Roger. We talked to your mom at Debs.... Heard you took off the helmet. ;)
You guys should look at the pics of this track in Jersey.... Very inspiring.

RDLIN-IT 04-24-2003, 11:48 AM The dirt is being delivered today around 2:30. JD and Chad will be at the track today to work on it. We will need everyone to pitch in to help pay for the extra dirt. The loads are $75 each and Rusty is buying the first load. Any extra money will be used towards plywood and other supplies to get the track completed. So what I need to know is who will be contributing and how much. Also, we are planning on working on the track this weekend. Saturday's weather calls for isolated showers but plan on working on the track anyway. Sunday the weather is good so for those that can, come out an help. I can be reached at 714-2132 if you have any questions.
RUSTYK 04-24-2003, 12:18 PM Looked at track in New Jersey. Very nice or I guess you say "SWEET".Dirt will be here today I ordered 10CY and we can get more. I hope someone is here when it arrives so we can judge just how much we wiil need

Bodido 05-03-2003, 01:29 PM Melvin...
It looks like we'll have a good mod buggy class, and a good stock truck class. We'll be running off-road on the new layout Saturday.
The B4's are lovely. Shane, Ryan and myself all have one. Pick one up.
Chad
slaprock 05-03-2003, 04:15 PM There is a thread in the on-road section, (well there is three, don't ask).
Post only in "Stream Hobby Shop, Newport News VA" Maybe the other two will vanish.
EmptyCanRacing 05-03-2003, 04:28 PM Yeah, I might just have to pull the stock motor out of my B3 & drop in a mod! Is anyone out there still planning on running stock buggies?
junkyarddawg 05-06-2003, 08:57 PM not me mod all the way for my losi buggy
joe
RUSTYK 05-07-2003, 08:55 PM OK Racers we need lots of help saturday 10 May. Bring a shovel and a rake and your buggys. Shane,Derrick and Chad say just a couple of hours and we are ready to race . The new layout looks just great. Even I can not wait to try it out. SO please come saturday and help get it finished.
Thanks
Rusty
Bodido 05-09-2003, 08:54 AM What's left to do is essentially this:
1) Finish shaping the jumps. The jumps are all in place but need smoothing and fine tuning.
2) Planned whoop/rhythm section isn't done yet. I was hoping to get Josh to do that (he's good with that sort of thing).
3) Smooth the surface. Some spots still need to be tilled, raked and rolled.
4) Get Ernie's grill so we can grubb. Don't count on this, but it really is a good idea.
You should all be happy to know that we're pretty much beyond shoveling duties. Raking and rolling the surface is 90% of what's left.
The plan for now is to run on the track for a couple of weeks. We'll make sure the layout and jumps are just right. Roll it and water it a lot!! When we're happy with it and have run on it some, we'll rent one of those big vibrating double rollers and pack the heck out of it.
The track is gonna be quite soft until we really pack it, so I doubt you'll need pink tapers just yet.
EmptyCanRacing 05-09-2003, 12:04 PM I have to work AGAIN this weekend, as I have for quite some time now. I hate that I haven't been able to help with the building of the new track.
I did however, get a chance to stop by Stream & drop off a few $ to at least help fund the track. It looked really good so far when I saw it though. It will definately be something you guys can all be very proud of when it finished. I hope I can get some Saturdays off to race on it.
RUSTYK 05-09-2003, 03:59 PM   Stream will supply the food to grill.
RUSTYK 05-12-2003, 11:44 AM Thanks to all that came out saturday. The track is ready to race with the first race on May 24. Alot of hard work went into the redesign and it turned out great. Many Thanks to Mr & Mrs Ernie, who, feed the troops saturday. Many thanks to all those who put in effort to work on the track these past few weeks.
