BTW both of those files are wrong, esp. my data. Doesn't effect the points but I took week six off, have won the past three weeks in a row. You have my week 6 and week 7 data swapped.

Need to double check ALL data before the final week!

According to my data (my wife and everyone else) I'm correct! week 7 is when I won! You better get your facts straight Dude! lol

Maybe your right, been so busy I haven't noticed.

All I've done since the new body is change tires on the car and cleaned the motor twice.

Oh yeah, I have a secret weapon to try :)

Thanks to all for a great racing experience.
Just couldn’t ask for a better bunch of guys and gal to race with.
I hope all of us will continue to race together in whatever is next.
Let’s stay in contact and figure our next racing class that we can
form. Maybe we can start another points series this fall.

Brad

Congrats Brad!

Maybe I shoulda/coulda/woulda for the shootout, but after a 10 week series to be tied for points and to have a two car shootout between us, simply FANTASTIC!!!!!!!!

Coulda = changed motors for the A Main or shootout, bad luck in a wreck turn the car off, allowing Brad and tonights race winner Eric back around.

Shoulda = charged normally for the shootout, but I was trying to get done, but ended up waiting on your batts. Also if I hadn't changed the rear tires because of wear, the chipped rim wouldn't have made the car loose (or was it just the driver!) in the last half of the shoot out.

Woulda = not change anything for the close racing we've had for the last 10 weeks.

This is EXACTLY why I got back into RC Racing.

IMHO I nominate Jacob for the "hard luck" award, alwayss seemed he got the short end of the deal.

I'm sitting out for 2 weeks, just got a Rx for the legends car, Since most of us have Legends and ROC cars, maybe an event where points from the finishes of both classes determines the overall weekend winner?

BTW Brad, you were right, my "time was due" for a hard luck mishap, the radio getting turned off just happend to be it, but that is just racing!!!!!!

Maybe my thoughts of doing a Polish Victory lap in honor of Alan Kulwicki cursed me tonight.....but so be it, it was a blast!

ok folks....here is the list!!!!

Congrats to Brad for winning the Points Series!

ON the other hand.... I can't believe I won the race!!! After T boning Bullit, I thought my chances were finished!

Don't forget, this fall, sometime in September, we will start the point series up again! Maybe we'll have a better turn out!

To the Gang at Tri-State Hobbies and Raceway,

On behalf of the ROC group... I'd like to thank you for building such a wonder facility and for all of your support in making this event happen!

Thanks again to Roger Hasler, Joe Rutherford, Monti, Eli Ezrow and John Foister for the help (and especially the speed secrets) you all have given us. Thanks to Matt Hasler for puttin up with us! Thanks to Mary for all of the fun!

Joe, Thanks again for the lessons on proper front end work!

BradMullins

How about a 17.5 spec class? Basically same as ROC except motor and battery, John and Roger to recommend battery.

JustaG3

What batteries do the guys run in there 17.5 cars now?

hmmmmmmmmm.... I dunno if I can afford the transition... I know I have part of it but the motor and batteries is what worries me!
motor $90
Batteries $70
Pulling out the Speed Control box after Bullit: Priceless(and damn lucky!)!

You know I was comin' in there choppin' at the bit to get in and trade some paint ( or wall in my case ). I just think it's great how all of you help in so many different ways it's hard not to feel at home so quickly. I see you are talkin' bout changin' the spec class to somethin' biggr or faster. Justin,
We are happy to have raced with you, need not be apologetic about anything!!!!
We hope you say in it, Dude you got a bunch faster and smoother as the night went on...

ROC will always be as it is, no known changes to that class.

There is a few of us that feel 'what's next' and are going to transition to 17.5 brushless some time soon.
The talk about different batteries is just for fun in order to get faster practice lap times and still using the same spec brushed motor.

Would anybody be interested in an RC 10DS Qualifier? Has everything but esc and a spec battery. The spec motor is a Kyosho R/C sport spec and I have 5 of them. Car comes with an almost new Hi tech radio system and 2 new servos. You can check my add on rcu if any one is interested. Looking to get about $110 shipped for it.

Little late here (been a bit busy) but congrats to all the ROC drivers for a successful points series. Seeing all the new racers and renewed interest racers sure makes all the work that goes into the track easier. Thanks again for your support.
As far as the current ROC class---no changes for next season. It is a great starter class thats somewhat easy on the wallet and lends itself perfect for the beginner driver or anyone that simply wants to race and have fun. Just expect a little door bangen'!
Guys that are thinking about the next level for the fall...dont buy your motor or battery yet. We just got back from the regional race in SC and the interest seems to be shifting to Lipo batteries very quickly. We will be testing 21.5 with a lipo on our track very soon and that may be the next level class. More to come on that later.

BoneSpec
05-26-2008, 02:22 AM
21.5 LiPo, just a hair slower than 13.5 4 cell.....

amainiac
05-26-2008, 02:17 PM
More than likely but we plan to test at our track. Ultimately it's the racers choice but my first experience with Lipo and brushless has me thinking about switching completely. I like the idea of using only one battery with maybe one as a backup. For me, it all depends on how long the battery stays at top performance and the maintenance involved to keep it there. At the paved track we just visited, the racers have almost completely switched to lipo. 17.5 & 21.5 is almost identical to 10.5 & 13.5 4 cell. For those of you making the jump from spec, this summer may be a good opportunity to do some testing before the new season starts.

Some info that was pasted onto me from a buddy that has a T500 and T450......I'll be doing more research on it.

A fully-charged Lithium Polymer battery will permanently lose 20%-40% capacity in a year if stored with a full charge at 70 degrees Fahrenheit. If where you store it is cooler than this, the damage is less, down to 2%-4% per year if stored freezing, and much higher if stored in a hot garage. A fully-charged LiPo left in a hot car that reaches 150F or higher is dead in less than 1 cycle.

So it's tough to answer your question. It all depends on where you live, how tolerant you are of capacity loss, and so forth.

If my batteries are fully-charged and I don't expect to fly within the next 24 hours, I chuck them in the freezer in a plastic baggie. At 70F, you permanently lose 0.05%-0.1% capacity per day storing fully-charged.

I treat my LiPos just like my nitro fuel now: maximum 2 seasons. Plan on 100 flights per LiPo in the budget. Costs come out very comparably to nitros at that level, too.

Anyone running any indoor on-road this summer at Tri-State?

amainiac

About the only indoor activity right now is practice. I guess most of the regular carpet racers are either playing outside or are on a break. If someone wants to organize a race and let the store know the date, thats fine with me.

Count me out.

Still everything set up for ROC, been too busy dealing with REAL race cars to work about the little cars. I'll be honest since I packed my car away after the shoot out with Brad, haven't opened it up.

Even with a time change back to what it was, doubt I will go for a 10 week series.

Oh yeah, new shop hours? Buddy in Columbus needs Heli fuel.........BADLY!

EricL

ok,ok... everyone is having a coniption(it's my word) fit about starting the points series in Sept! But, we will try and start racing in September 13th...since the pro's running 10.5 wanna start runnin'. also we have legend cars that wanna start runnin too! So, I sat down with Roger, and discussed times of when we could start up the points race.
::::::::It will be a 10 week race still this fall::::::::::::::

So to get everyone psyched up for it...How about we start the points race in October 11th, 2008 and go for 10 weeks(not counting Thanksgiving Day weekend as part of it...or rather than...OMIT Nov. 29th to observe the holiday! and/or huntin' season). The last day of series being December 20th 2008.

Three heats and 1 A Main Any B Mains the One will Bump up to the A Main sitll applys.

The heats are as a IFMAR Style qualifying.

So Points race dates are as follows:
Oct 11
Oct 18
Oct 25
Nov 1
Nov 8 In honor of the elections...Double points( what do you think Roger)
Nov 15
Nov 22
Nov 29 race day doesn't count for points
Dec 6
Dec 13
Dec 20 Double points

REMEMBER: 2 OF YOUR WORST RACES WILL BE THROWN OUT!!!

and possible gift exchange?!?! Gift's should deal with RC parts...just an idea er a thought

Lets keep in mind...we are going start Carpet Oval Racing On Sept 13th!!!

Als0, Next year starting in Mid January, we will start another 10 week Points series race as well...aka 2009 Winter R.O.C. Points Series Race

Hey Roger,

I think that we should adapt a new points count system. I've looked at other Series race results and seen that they would give 1st place 150pts
then 2nd thru 5th would drop down 3 pts each.

6th thru 10th drop down 2 pts each

11th thru final racer drops down 1 pt each
Example
1- 150
2- 147
3- 144
4- 141
5- 138
6- 136
7- 134
8- 132
9- 130
10 128
11 129
12 128 etc

here is also what I'd like to make different:

TQ would get 10 bonus pts
2nd Qualifier 5 pts
3rd qualifier 1pt

on the 5th and 10th week have double points:woohoo:

whats everyone think?

I wish it were that simple but by runing lipo with a spec motor motor would be a huge speed difference for an entry level class. No to mention increased battery such as lipo with cause you more tire wear, more com wear, and you will have to replace the brushes more often. If that is whay you guys want to do far be it from me to say you can't run it. Just try to think of the big picture when trying to make a change.

AOC

Advanced Oval Class

Just how fast will it be though??????

$350 for BL setup counting the gears and other little extras, them Nimh batts which are not cheap.

Lipo charger and 4200 battery is about the same $350

I cannot afford BOTH. Chassis setup will be critical as well as driving so as to not scrub the tires to death in the corner.

"WHAT IF" 17.5 BL and Lipo + Spec motor were close enough to run together? I'm only looking to step up to about 17.5 speed not super ballistic insane madman Monti speeds :)

Chuck would be a good person to test these combos :)

Word to the wise...and not so wise,

There is talk of going to a spec 3000 pack this year. They are the same cost as the 1600's. But yet they aren't as junky as the batt's bought from last year.

Also, I've been talking it over with John and the points structure may change a little bit this time around.

...and also, is there any interest of having a 17.5 and or 10,5 points series as well?

I've been going over my stuff tonight (since I can't sleep -2:24 am-) and it dawned on me... I'm not gonna have my game with me on Saturday...I'll be there, but it's gonna be a bit rough. My packs aren't where they should be. Tires, I forgot to buy new ones. Motor, well I got time to work on it tonight...er' this morning before work.

My one pack its highest so far...77s 2nd pack...297 sigh!!!
I should've put them to bed fully charged!

For right now, for me....Money talks...and BS walks...and it looks like I might be walkin'.

I might stop in Sat to watch, but if races are starting at 4pm, count me out for ROC/AOC, might mess with Legends.

SCCA ARRC is second weekend in November, I'll be busy thru end of October it seems.

I've done NOTHING since ROC Shootout with Brad. I have an extra Rx with crystal now for the Legends car, but been too busy to even touch it.

I WILL go LiPo for a fun non racing offroad combo from Traxxas.

What direction are we going, who can afford what? SPEC Legends and ROC is why I got back into Carpet Oval and loved it. New SPEC pack, flavor of the year?

I'm here for the fun, when it's not fun but $$$ I can walk away which I did 15-16 years ago. I'm not gonna give up that easy this time.
