creeping up? where di you learn math at?

The king put another 5 points on me tonight!

King - 489
Chip (me) - 482
3rd - 470
4th - 462
Fred - 453

ASSUMING I read Rogers scoring right, I'll await his "official" update.

Now start factoring in the two races you can drop, Jacob would be right back in the hunt. Honestly have the bad luck now and end with a strong finish! Same way with Mary, who ran a few 4.7's and a decent amount of 4.8's in practice.

I still have the best average finish I believe, but not enough to keep up with the KING!!!!

4-2-3-2-3

Time to go thru my chassis, new body, HP seems to be fine, driver is so-so, need to make chassis more smoother thru the corners.

I felt quite comfortable tonight drafting behind someone and not once did I get the shakes :)

Watch out for the Ruppert gang, they might sneak into the hunt as well!

Another great night for the ROC...
We picked up 2 more for the class (which is awesome) and it seems to me the on track competition is getting better every week.
The points are as follows:
King - 489
Chip - 482
Eric - 470
Bullit - 462
Turbo - 453
Mary - 412
Tracy - 374
Terry - 348
Jay - 322
Dan - 174
Rob - 164
Mike - 156
Ryan - 156
MD - 101
Steve - 99
Art - 84
Not sure who all is actually in the series so I included all drivers for now.
Half way fella's. If this was Nascar...we would reset points at 500 for the leader and desend 5 pts per each driver. (Nah...just kidding:rolleyes:)

Just a short note on slot cars. Back in the mid-late 60's we had two factory American tracks in Troy. One was a 350' 8 lane 24th scale road course with a high banked 195 degree sweeper that had a 100' straight right before it. We would typically have around 75-80 racers on a saturday afternoon. The competition was insane and the speeds were crazy.

On a more serious note, I finally hit 50 laps last night. it took quite a few weeks and some help from Chuck to do it and now I will be working on 51. It gave me personal satifaction to hit 50 but the most fun I had last night was watching the ROC B main and the ROC A main. I was there when the ROC started and sometimes it looked like a demolition derby. To see the racing improve week by week was really neat!(neet?, give me a break. I grew up in the 50-60's). This fall I will proability be moving over to let some of the former ROC racers by in 17.5.

Sam,
Congratulations on your 50 lap race! We are looking forward to get to race with You, Chuck and others.
I was born in the early 60’s, as a kid I remember the slot track in Middletown, it
always drew a big crowd.

Eric,
Like I said last night, I would rather chase the points leader than be the points leader.

Just finished reworking Bullit's front end. Cannot believe how bound up it was!
He will now have a car that will work in traffic, just hope he will be a bit more selective in his passing opportunities.

BoneSpec
04-15-2008, 01:36 AM
I was trying to listen when Monti was talking with you Brad, about the front end and no binding, just picking up little tips of knowledge.

Motor = I feel I'm ok there, not the best but average
Batts = I have one GREAT pack, another a close second. This area can be the budget buster
Car = other than minor Wolfe springs and kingpins, the rest is as I bought it, as raced in 2000-2001.

Areas I plan to improve......
Transpoder - using a house unit mounted 1.5-1.75" off the floor, at 3/4 ounce it does effect roll center, personal unit mounted low will help ALOT!
Other Electronics - servo and Rx on wrong side of car. OK with old 6C car, 4C setup is more finicky
Speed Control - old school 16g 4 wire setup that was outdated in 1990, need a true 3 wire setup. Wires are HOT after race, heat = voltage drop.
Tires - Due to the old body cutting tires, I've been running "narrowed" tires, just cutting out the chunked areas on the tire truer.

OH YEAH!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'm still having a blast, even being in second place!

Eric, can you move the "Mary Magnet" from Freds Legend car to your ROC car? THANKS!

Jacob, I know you can be fast, this worries me. You are sitting as a dark horse waiting to jump at the bit and come back an WAX our behinds.

(HINT: Steal your dads stuff!)

All in all, I'm having a blast!

Honestly with as even as the field has been (except for the 50 lap Qual. record!) why would anyone consider going to 17.5 Brushless?

BTW!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I did love the SMOOTHNESS of the running Saturday. BE READY in time! I almost didn't make it due to a false peak on a charger, but IMHO the ship could be run tighter, just need to have Eric L on the mike so we can slow his car down :)

All in All...............as a ROC group........

We are having fun, sharing SOME secrets, willing to help others, who wants to change????

Brad Magnet in testing BTW!

I can view the files somewhat, thanks!

Jacob, consistancy (and pure luck!) is the key. My win was IMHO pure luck, I missed the wrecks. Eric I can handle speed wise, you and your dad, haha, I don't have it speed wise.

As of right now, if we were going into the last week, double points race, if neither your dad or I TQ'd, and I finished on place ahead of him, it would be a points tie. His two wins to my one would be the tie breaker.

In all honesty, as long as the top 4 make the A main, it shall be a battle among ourselfs.....Tracey Rupert has the outside chance though.

Might I suggest after this points race is over, we have a ONE night shootout. Four races between the four of us. Average of the four heats?

The one Qual. your Dad and you got out front early, but after that we were all dead even.

I will say this, even if I goto 17.5 BRL, I still wanna run the spec class UNLESS dying batts become a issue. Maybe next time go with Windtunnel 3000 mah packs?

Close racing is the best. Other than Brads 50 lap wonder (I could have spoiled!) we've been consistant at 49 laps. IMHO to consistantly go faster, fresh batts would have to be purchsed and that kills the cost factor of spec class. Unles I'm doing somethign wrong and killing my packs, or need to try to torpedo.....but you see the cost factor issue?

I've always been the cheap racer having a blast. I used to take on John heads up along with the others that were dropping $$$$ (Team Scaggs, Greg Greene, etc) and running with then with lessor equipment, well it makes the victory sweeter.

Heck, I wanna get my Legends car back up to speed, expert Legends? Jay would be spanking our butts I bet!

BradMullins
04-29-2008, 07:58 AM
Bullit ran my Legend car last weekend. He was TQ and A main winner, there were six Legends including Chuck.

I would still like to see Roger, John, Joe, Monti, Chuck and Eli draw for a current ROC car then race it!!!
It would be fun to see all of our cars out there on the track racing! Racing under ROC rules but just for fun!

I'm up for any race after ROC series is finished.
Bullit and I have a few 6 cell 1500mAh NiCd batteries that we will be playing with.
TSH has these in stock at a very good price!
Plan on purchasing (2) Associated #6334 battery trays for use with the longer battery packs.
We will jump to brushless at some point but not right away.

wow, I spent the night cyclin' packs at the track. Almost threw away a pack that I had bought new but couldn't get any run time outta it..(2.5 minutes tops). All of a sudden it popped open with a 390 at 15 amp dsch.

found another pack that gave me 436 at 15 amps.

and another with 417 at 15amps. cycled both 3 times with simular numbers!!!

Oh ya and Joe, the pack marked WOW woke up with some spectacular numbers!!! You ain't gettin em back!

My other new battery wouldn't get off of the 60 sec mark... finally showed some signs of wanting to work( 370 secs).

Meh, who needs six cells, I have a 4 cell pack that would put 2 laps on the field. Just shows how crappy these Spec packs can be at times.

Speaking of how crappy Spec packs are...

for the past 5 weeks of this series, I bought a brand new battery pack that would not hold voltage. After a loooooooong struggle of cyclin the pack and not getting any more than maybe 80 second tops of discharge...guess what Finally started to wake up??? Slowly but surely, the voltage and discharge times have been starting to pick up. RIS has been going down.
The first time last nite it was 30 sec...hit it again it went to 182 sec. (I thought wow this is new) so I hit it again ...284
This last time I cycled it... discharge was 340 RIS 40.1 and I think it will still climb.
I new these things took some patience....but dang! 5 weeks!!!
Last night I was gonna clip the wires and toss it in the re-cycling bin.

guess I scared the 'volts' outta it!

BoneSpec

For me coming in late... That was some pretty strange racing.
Track conditions were definately off as there was a small groove on the track.
I couldn't help but notice Bullit getting some hang time in turn 2 off of Turbo's car.

What I saw from the drivers stand while I was chasin' bullit, who was chasin' Turbo who had spun out in turn 2 when all in a split second bullit ran into fred who was stuck in the drive line. I swear that car must've been almost 5 feet in the air!:woohoo: I couldn't help but almost laugh... when bullit said...and I quote:
"Thanks alot Fred!" It was funny, but on the other hand...it wasn't.

Sorry Bullit, had to stick my 2 cents in...

2 weeks to go... and only 7 out of 16 drivers seem to remain!

Due to lack of tuning equipment... my car seems to be out of wack again.

Tires [U]will[U] be a factor for me.:freak:

Chip is knockin on Brad's back door in the points. I think the King needs to pull a rabbit outta his hat!

2nd place needs 2 points to take over lead in series
3rd needs 9
4th needs 23
5th needs 48
6th needs 81

I can see Brad right about now....hookin up via to satelite communications to find the best way to keep the lead! He's looking for that special mix...thee ultimate formula to keep winning the races as well as the series!:dude:

I will honestly say, better to be lucky than good. Jacob has gotten the raw deal overall. IMHO him and Turbo are up for the "Goody's" award.

Your ROCKET start I knew you would have me by turn 1 if you came cleanly thru. First 30 seconds, you against me, I don't stand a chance. After that we are fairly even from what I saw last week. I really wanted to put you a lap down after you got caught in wrecks, but it was not to be. It got kinda boring being all alone, no pressure meant I ran a better line.

Two weeks left, man this is close racing!

I thought about spending $300 this week for more of an edge, decided I'm not gonna change a thing. It is against why I got back into RC racing, have fun, cheaply.

I wanna try a Indi Torpedo, better ESC, HPI center shock, but that will be in a month or so.

I talked with Roger, nothing will change for the last race, but after the series I'm thinking a Champion RC shootout between us top four. Think of it as four mains, average the finishes.....but just have fun! Maybe a Pro vs. Joe race, like the Toyota Long Beach Celebrity race with the Scion's.

Joes (us) start on the front stretch, Pros start in the normal position giving us a 1/2 lap or 2.4 second advantage.

:dude:As the weeks tumble down to the 'nitty gritty', the showing for this weeks race was small as we had a new racer join us for his debute! We welcomed Justin Phelps to race and give us a challenge. Unfortunately, his speed control caused him some problems but I trust that that wont keep him off of the track much in the near future! Only a total of 4 'die hard' racers showed up for Mother's day weekend event! (3 being in the points race)! Hellooo! Where were the Mullins??? Even with their "No Show" tactics-- they gained back points they lost using today's 0 points as a throw-away! Today gave The King back 96 points he lost and Bullit back 90 that he lost! Good stradegy fellas!!! It's definately a tight battle between the top 5! As you can see, anything can happen!

If Turbo would've showed up--it would've gave him a possible 96-98 point boost Zingging him possibly up to 4th position in points as "I" myself suffered with horsepower and driving abillity issues! The top 6 left in the points are as follows:

1 Chip T...........690
2 King..............686
3 Eric L............678
4 Bullit.............658
5 Mary.............608
6 Turbo............547

Next week "Dont Forget"!!! It is DOUBLE POINTS WEEK and the last week of the series! Top six spots are all up for grabs!

Do you know, if we didn't have throw aways in place, the points would be as follows:

1 Eric L............844:woohoo:
2 Chip T...........784
3 King..............779
4 Mary.............770
5 Bullit.............748
6 Turbo............547

Don't forget!!! Next week!!! Double Points week and the ending of a series!

This could get ugly!!!!!!!!!!!

IF.....Bullit or Turbo TQ's, that kills the one TQ point for Brad. Eric, me.

IF......Eric wins (by some miracle!) Brad finishes 3rd and I finish 4th.........

Three way tie for the points, correct? SHOOTOUT!!!!!!!

Freaking Mary had HP, pulling me on the straights, but her dogbone line made the group even. Track was "green" tonight, no groove, I think I turned the best lap at 4.88......

I did tangle with Mary twice, I'd get the line off the corner, she'd motor by, then cut down and pinch me. First time was her fault (IMH Rowdy Bush Opinon), second time I gave room but hit the ICE and sent us both straight for the wall.

Fastest was 47 laps, just little grip with no FAST cars for two weeks.......but we all had equal footing.

Oh yeah, Eric had a "small" issue with a spec pack VENTING!!!!!!!!!!!

BoneSpec

BTW both of those files are wrong, esp. my data. Doesn't effect the points but I took week six off, have won the past three weeks in a row. You have my week 6 and week 7 data swapped.

Need to double check ALL data before the final week!
