Bullit 12-06-2008, 01:49 PM John has some 17.5 motors other than Novak for $69.99 in the case. Yeah, They are trinity motors, John says that they have more torque than the novaks. Well, all of our spec packs died and nothing we do helps we have tried everything we can think of. Since there is just 1 more weekend after this we are gonna go ahead and switch to 21.5 lipo today.. So, by looks of things, Chip is gonna win this one. EricL 12-07-2008, 01:29 AM ...on behalf of Tri-State Hobbies and Raceway... I wanna thank everyone for making the trip out into the snow to race....great turn out for ROC spec.!!! good to see the newbies gettin settled in the pockets and learnin their cars! Dont forget folks! Dec 13th is Toys for Tots race And ROC's Double points race! New leader on the board--- Chip Tague in first with 901 Points tgardner41 12-07-2008, 02:48 AM Nobody said a word but there was a new track record set in the Legend Main. The 41 hit a 40/4:04.758, just nosing out Chuck's 40/4:04.846. Maybe somebody could put that on the board. Admittedly Chuck had a huge advantage using what looked like a 21.5 brushless motor and a Lipo battery in his Legend while the 41 ran all spec equipment. Great race tho! Next time I'll use a big ol' 6-cell EP pack to make it a little more fair. Found enough speed in 13.5 to dirt track a pan car around just like an 1/8 scale late model at Gabby's Hoop! Sorry dude to Jeremy for that pass in the Main. Almost won that sucker two weeks in a row... The 41 had a bad night in ROC, qualifying 3rd but apparently all spec batteries are not created equal. :dude: BoneSpec 12-07-2008, 03:37 AM Nobody said a word but there was a new track record set in the Legend Main. Also the reocrd for the brushless motor should be duely noted as an modified legends class...wonder what kinda interest that would draw up... As for me bumpin ya and such... didn't mean to do that in the first part of the main ...and then again...rubbin ya the second part of it... my car had been outta shape for so long...that I kinda forgot what it was like to have a fast car again. Thanks to Eli's help,... found the problem of my pushing to be because a screw was loose(shut up chip) on the front of my T plate!...Lost a nut(shut up chip)! Eric L bigdog1893 12-07-2008, 12:03 PM All the bumping and grinding paid off in the end for me. Im Extremely happy with the New Silva Concepts ride (thanks Art) just the way it works in the corners is awesome, sometimes too awesome (thats when i pull a ERIC and stuff it under the boards) lol. but being frustrated all night for not finishing a heat, and then working my way threw traffic (literally & Physically) then i caught the bump to the A-main along with Josh ( the oval first timer in the all red car ) I think we held our own pretty good i noticed a few times me getting in the way of some other people with my slower. but honestly that makes for good racing having to drive around lap traffic. sometimes into lap traffic. One time i think i ran under Thad ( black and gold truck ) making him fly threw the air and then getting hit by another car. sorry about all that all i can say is what a night of racing and i hope to see everyone their next week for the toys for tots charity race.. and maybe a LEGENDS FIGURE 8 RACE!!!! MAIN EVENT!!!!!!!!!! BoneSpec 12-07-2008, 03:55 PM I see about laying out the rails needed for the figure 8 Wednesday/Thursday night. Trinity 1600 Spec pack MUST be used for the figure 8!!!!! To quote a movie line from Monty Python ...."Bring out your dead"...... samgkd 12-07-2008, 04:55 PM We could open the figure race up to "" run what you bring "". Just a thought. Some racers may have a Legends laying around, not set up for Spec, that would run it if they could. How about making the race like 15min long. The most laps in 15min wins. That way you could fix it during the race, change battries if needed, clean up parts off the track, etc. Sam bigdog1893 12-07-2008, 08:40 PM *Time to strap a 7cell in the legends* Foam bumpers stuck to the chassis. and a BIG wing on the rear end! UGLY! tgardner41 12-08-2008, 03:45 PM A few questions- Who is in charge of the Legend class rules at Tri State? What are the rules for the Legend class for the Toys for Tots race? Will there be a figure 8 Main for Legends at this race? Will the figure 8 be run on a breakout? What size figure 8? The whole track?? :dude: BoneSpec 12-08-2008, 03:57 PM Legend rules and races should be as we have ran them, 4 cell Spec packs, spec motors, spec tires, Oval for the main. Then after all the normal racing, run the figure 8 bash, no breakout, using the whole track, how we did it last time. No battery changes, no time limit, most laps win? tgardner41 12-08-2008, 06:17 PM Running the normal spec Legend class with the Main on the oval and then running the figure 8 after all the other Mains is a good plan (plus that will give a guy time to put in his figure 8 spec motor). Suggest that the figure 8 race have a limit like 5 minutes or 50 laps. And some sort of prize for the winner, like a set of tires and a body or a track gift certificate- that might motivate a few more Legends to show up. :dude: bigdog1893 12-08-2008, 07:37 PM Running the normal spec Legend class with the Main on the oval and then running the figure 8 after all the other Mains is a good plan (plus that will give a guy time to put in his figure 8 spec motor). Next I'mma gonna clean out my bearings...and then...recheck everything one more time! I'll Be ready (I hope) for Saturday! How about everyone else!!! OH yea and I just heard what we might be going to 1c Lipo 17.5 so dont count all yer chickens yet... wait til they settle on one first. Eric L BoneSpec 12-12-2008, 12:06 AM You did what?????? More like how did John help you tonight :) 13.5 lipo single cell, but you WILL need to run a Rx pack, slightly slower than 17.5 4 cell.......too slow for me :) bigdog1893 12-12-2008, 12:15 AM well i have a few things that ive traded over on rctech.net... one that has landed me a NIB GTB 6cell and a NIB novak smart stop for a 2s lipo... and the other landing me a NIB Trinity 3800 lipo.. hopefully i can swap that for a new SMC 2s 3200 at the shop.. only thing i would need next would be a 21.5 motor.. and a lipo tray for my ksg gen2.... and ill be ready to run some 21.5 lipo... Also note to Eric preparation for this weekend free'd up the front end with the tooth paste and the king pins chucked in the dremal.. then re-polished them with some blue magic Liquid metal polish........ and boy my front end is butter smooth........ Friday night im gonna cut some tires down. instead of using my spec skins (2.024) also i still have yet my figure 8 ride.. but believe me it will be ready D-day BradMullins 12-12-2008, 12:36 AM The 1 cell battery seams interesting for sure but the output voltage 3.7, some folks may have radio issues, -like lack of steering servo torque. John told Jacob he has ordered the SMC 1 cell LiPo batteries, due in next week. Doug Brock is going to switch to 2 cell 21.5 brushless, Jacob and I will give it a serious try. Doing a 4.3 sec. lap is a rush. We checked the BRL 21.5 LiPo rules which stated that the min. car weight shall be 38 oz. Last weekend we had added weight to match Chuck's car at 41 oz., our cars are fat but we match and that is okay for now. Chuck and John were a huge help last weekend, Jacob and I have much yet to learn. We have our Legends cars ready, plan on being there tomorrow night for setup work. This has been a long week.......... -Brad EricL 12-12-2008, 06:15 AM This has been a long week.......... -Brad Tell me about it! Bullit 12-12-2008, 05:25 PM King and I will also be racing our legends, worked on our front ends and they work almost as good as my l4. We do have 2 spec packs left that will charge and 2 okay spec motors so we will be running those in legends. I still have that 17.5 motor though...........Hmmmmm. BoneSpec 12-14-2008, 06:13 AM Thad, I was informed that since your 40 lap record came in the main, it doesn't count for the record with the short first lap. Therefore mind stands for now until you knock it off, which I know you will. After tonights Figure 8 race I won't be racing my Legends until John gets some parts in. But it was fun!!!!! Onto ROC notes, I finally got a clear run with the ROC car set on kill. I reset my track records of 50 laps in 4:00.296 and fast lap of 4.540 to 51 in 4:01.669 and fast lap of 4.505... 2.18 rear wheel diameter with 2.78 rollout, 39/96 gearing. Overall tonight was great. Alot of folks showed up for the toys for tots, but the 17.5-Lipo/10.5-4 cell guys, 10 entrys and they all ran together for the Main, Dominic failed to make a full lap due to spur gear issue, wheter his fault or due to a minor tangle up at the start. Nine cars left running 3.85-4.0 lap times. it was all a blur!!!!!! Quite humbling to me, I know I don't have 1/10th the skill those guys have to race that close!!!! tgardner41 12-15-2008, 03:19 PM Thad, I was informed that since your 40 lap record came in the main, it doesn't count for the record with the short first lap. Therefore mind stands for now until you knock it off, which I know you will... Thats OK Chip, you are one heckuva racer, I forgot about Tri-State's scoring set up in the Legend class. Since two scoring methodologies are used, shouldn't there be two track records for the class- one for the qualifyers and another for the main? Anyway, I'll just have to try harder next time to nail the qualifyer record, hopefully Chuck will be right behind me with his outlaw brushless lipo 6.07 robotic repeater! Does the track have a web site where one can view the race results? :dude: BoneSpec 12-15-2008, 03:49 PM Eric normally posts the ROC points results here.......but I extended my lead on him saturday. I won't be racing legends for a while......until I get parts in to fix it from the crashing LOL!!!!!! Would having a spotter calling out your lap times be a bad idea or just bad in the spirit of the rules????? tgardner41 12-15-2008, 04:52 PM Would having a spotter calling out your lap times be a bad idea or just bad in the spirit of the rules????? Its always nice to have an announcer call out lap times in any class, even more so in a breakout class! Having the lap times announced (and the scoreboard turned on during the race) is critical to a good run in a break out race. The last time I was raced at Tri State, very few lap times were announced and the score board was turned off (until the Main). For races where there is no announcer or scoreboard, a spotter calling out just one guy's lap times would be a huge advantage. What did you break on your legend? Besides the body and electronics, the most expensive part on the car costs less than $10.00... :dude: front axle plate, front bumper, servo, rear axle bearing and maybe a new axle!!!! I had a blast with the steering so messed up. I was looking on ebay, someone has a lot of 13-15 Legend axles that are "slightly bent" LOL!!!!! tgardner41 12-16-2008, 03:29 AM Sounds like you suffered from typical figure 8 carnage. But its well worth it for the fun factor! Most Legend rules say you can use any plastic style front bumper (no carbon fiber), so I use a Revo rear bumper on the front of mine. Fits nicely on the stock bumper. Super tough and light, haven't broke any front end parts or servos since installing one a few years ago. Since thats the first thing the Revo guys usually toss, you can probably get one for free. There is very little, if any, lap time difference between bearings and bushings on these cars, so I use bushings all around on mine, totally bullet proof. Bolink sprint car nerf bars bolt right on, haven't bent the rear axle since installing those. Also use a heatsink on the motor that wedges against the battery tray, which keeps the motor from moving in the bad crashes and saves your spur gear. Sure my Legend is probably the heaviest, with the extra parts, functional headlights, three Strombergs with scoop & fuel lines, and full moon discs. But it is dead nuts reliable, holds track records at 4 1/2 tracks and won every figure 8 race its been in (4). And I'm one of those guys who does NOT let off at the intersection. Wish I could have made it down to your race. 13-15 bent axles, eh? I saw 'em too but I'd be too ashamed to put 'em on ebay... does he have any bids yet? :dude: BoneSpec 12-16-2008, 03:51 AM I must admit, I was TRYING to inflict damage.....and enjoyed it!!!! Only thing John didn't have in stock was the front axle piece.....I also haven't paid much attention to the axles bidding, just thought it was funny. Other than losing a e-clip or busting a king pin this is the first serious damage my Legend car has seen. I have my first body to put back on, the two tone one was cracking in the corners of the running boards. I think I have 1.5 ounces of weight on the LR frame rail.....turning right at the beginning was fun!!!!! I have tried my Legend car at full speed.....and it needs a little tuning to handle right. Perfect for breakout, but that extra 1/2 second requires more setup and ALOT better driving! In one of the Quals I caught up to Bullit to put him a lap down since he spun on the ice, but was bump drafting him down the whole back straight!!!!! A blast indeed. BoneSpec 12-16-2008, 04:05 AM "slightly" bent axles.......now that is funny!!!!!!!!! http://photos.blacksheepvinyl.com/images/A_0/5/4/2/12450/toudftf4.jpg jeremy reed 12-16-2008, 02:18 PM hey guys where is your track located and what onroad and oval classes are you running?also what kind of track set up do you have and your hours for racing and practice, thanks alot BoneSpec 12-16-2008, 05:19 PM Sunday-Wednesday = on road set up Thursday can be either depending on when the track gets changed Friday and Saturday = oval 3379 Dixie Highway, Fairfield, OH 45015 Some maps will have it listed as being in Hamiltion, dang annexing!
