I was recently lucky enough to buy some used HEFTY 4600's that are AWESOME. I was told by a fellow racer that I should DEAD short them to give them more PUNCH. He said I would sacrifice some run time, but it would be well worth it. I am assuming that the guy that sold me the packs also dead shorted them, because one came shipped that way. Here's my STUPID question. I usually discharge mine on my ICE charger, then more on my DPD to even out the cells. I've got both set to .090. Am I doing something wrong, because then when I dead short them, they spark just a little? I remember back when dead shorting was more popular, and I was told sparking was BAD.. Any suggestions would be GREATLY appreciated...

you must totaly discharge all cells before dead shorting to absolute zero! A zero thirty or any other device that lets you get out all of the voltage will suffice.

I would not recommend deadshorting the new generation cells, i.e. 4600mah, for as long as you don't notice any significant drop in performance from the day you bought them.

I only deadshort the older 4200's I bought in early fall because I had one or two cells discharge to 0 volts after a couple days even with a charge stored in them. Deadshorting is like giving morphine to a terminally ill cancer patient. It only makes the death more enjoyable. Sorry for the sad image.

I would start with the charging, discharging and storage instructions like you can find on www.tqcells.com before going the deadshorting way.

YES go to the TQ site the directions are grreat for cell care. I seem to see some improvement in my 4200's and follow them as close as I can for the new 4600's
