Hello everyone!

Joe's Hobby barn and Raceway will begin racing outdoor in early May.(weather permitting) Joe's is on Springhill, about a mile east of State Rd 41. From I-70 go south on SR 41 four stoplights to Springhill; turn left (east) on Springhill, Joe's is about a mile, on the left, just before the RR tracks.

http://jhbol.com/store/ < That is a link to their website. The phone # is 812 299 5773 . The Hobby shop is open 7 days a week 10:00am to 6:00pm.

We race on Sundays . The track opens at 10:00 am and racing begins at 1:00pm. We run 2 heats and a main event. The cost of racing is $15 for the first entry, and $10 for each additional entry. The most popular classes at Joe's (not in any particular order) have been:

1/8 scale Buggy 4wd
1/8 scale Truggy 4wd
1/10 electric Truck 2wd (stock and mod)
1/10 gas(nitro) Truck 2wd
MONSTER TRUCKS 4wd (Electric will run with the nitros)
1/10 4wd electric buggy
Novice (run what you brung)

Plans are being made to implement a dirt OVAL around the track, while using some of it for the regular motocross style off-road track as well.

This year we may see some other classes, particularly to do with the OVAL aspect of our track. I would like to see some input on here to let us know about how much interest there would be for it.

Joe's will run ANY class if there are at least 3 entries, so if you race 4wd elec. or 2wd buggy or 1/18th scale, bring it and your friends and let's race!

Come out to Joe's this summer and RACE!!!!

What are the motor rules (electric) going to be? Sorry, I have been out of it for so long I've missed the club meetings where it was discussed. I AM planning on racing Sundays at the barn. I hope some guys want to run 4WD buggy, cause I'm looking forward to it. Also will be running my truck.

We haven't set forth rules for the outdoor yet on motors. In 1/10 truck, we may divide into 2 groups; stock and modified. Stock would be 13.5 brushless or a ROAR approved brushed Stock motor. Modified would be a 10.5 brushless or higher or any modified brushed motor. Lipo's will be allowed.

Also, at Joe's, We have run Nitro monster trucks with electric monster trucks in the past and will continue to do that this year and will even expand that to include electric 1/8 scale Buggy or Truggy conversions to run with the Nitro's, or, if there are enough of them, we will make a separate class for them if that is what people want.

Thanks Mark. (RCDawg is Joe).

I have a 13.5 in my dirt T4 now, and been running it at Linton. They let 10.5 count as stock too, though. The 13.5 is a little lightweight for those giant doubles they have down there, but should be great for the barn. I'm planning on being at the barn Sunday, so I'll ask around to be sure that's the way its going to be.

I should be down some this summer to run 13.5/lipo t4. That should be loads of fun, cause i think mark is going to run the same thing.

BTW, mark, did you get the speed control issue figured out on that t4 of yours??? LMK.

Yes I did! It wasn't the speedo, it was the slipper clutch. I went thru the T4 and rebuilt the tranny, Diff, slipper, shocks, and put new bearings in it, so it should be ready to ROCK!! I also strapped some power into the GT2....I put a Collari .12 in it so it will be ROCKIN'!!!!

yeah man i know. it took me 3yrs to get it. had lots of 2nd places but finely got there. i found out that most of my out door pics and videos are to large. so i've only got a few out door pics but will get some of the drivers stand and the track as it is now. we've got a rough draft of the new track and will have a finished draft in the next day or so. we believe it's going to be a sweet track for all. we've got the oval for the all out fast racing and we've got a sweet off-road course that's got 2/3 of the oval for speed and in side we've got some straights dog leg a couple nice turns a table top,box dot's,wash board a couple medium jumps and a couple short jumps. and if enough people show an interest in a dirt car class we'll run one. feel free to give us any feed back you might have for us.all input we get can only help us make our track better and bring in more racers.well i'll shut up for now and get ready to race today. hope to see you on the track hopefully behind me.

hey everyone hope you all are getting those dirt trucks and cars ready. it's getting close. i can smell the nitro in the air. :D i'v got a pic of the drawing of the new track lay out. i hope everyone likes it. it has an out side oval with a nice inside off-road track. the off-road track uses 2/3rds of the oval for speed and a good driving course in the middle. mark and i went through about five different lay outs till we chose this one.when the weather brakes and drys out we'll start the work. and speaking of work we'll take all the help we can get. we'll post work dates later. and like i'v said before we'll take any ideas you might have. will hope to see you at the track.

The only thing I might tweak is to make the corners as round as you can. A lot of the problem people had with the carpet oval at Linton was square corners. I know its not exactly the same since you wont be hitting walls and breaking parts, but I think oval racers will have more fun if the corners are fast. Still a great setup

What are 'Box Dots'? You gonna plant some stumps in one of the corners :p

Lets just start by saying that I have raced at Joe's in the past and even though the people are very nice and great to race with it has ALWAYS fizzled out towards the middle and the end of the season. And by fizzle I mean the season usually starts with 20 or so guys and ends up with just the few loyal followers who refuse to see the writing on the wall. This is mainly do to the lack of maintenance on the track, the extremely long time that it takes to get 4 or 5 races done per heat (which could be cut down by running more cars per race), the outdated ancient transponder system that won't even accept personals and a race coordinator that just down right refuses to change the way he runs the program. Gary has been to other races and knows how they are supposed to be ran. If you're going to run a race program it should be with the intention for all of the racers to go away at the end of the day feeling they had a great time and got there moneys worth. 2 heats (5 minutes each) and a main, which may take up to 4 hours or longer at times to complete is absolutely ridiculous. Most other places can get 3 heats and a main in the same amount of time, but then again there race directors don't spend there time just wandering around shooting the breeze instead of getting the next heat going. If all the races for the heat are completed just move on to the next heat and then take a small break to do a resort for the 3rd heat and then the same to set up the mains. There is no reason for the track to sit idle for 20 minutes per hour just because you want to run on a hour long clock. The only thing Gary is interested in is lining his pockets with your race money, he gets 1/2 the entry fees for the day and then when there is a trophy race he gouges the club for full price on the trophies. For god sake he makes the trophies so couldn't he at least do the trophies for the club at cost (and then show the club president or treasurer the books for the parts to make the trophies and how much they actually cost so the club knows how much to really pay) or maybe cost + 10% if he wanted to make a little money off of it and then make his money off the regular guys that come to him for trophies for other things. I mean he is part of the club after all. But then again if I had my cash cow of guys willing to spend money no questions asked I would probably milk it for what it was worth also. Then he throws the Snake race in so he can make even more money. Come on guys, wake up and stop letting Gary take you for what he can get out of you. I don't know to many other race directors that walk away at the end of the day with $150 in his pocket (thats 20 racers at $15 a piece divided by 2) or more depending on the turn out, plus the Snake race, for just running the computer and drawing out the day so everyone can sit in the heat waiting for the next race. You all deserve better than this and you should demand (or at least ask) that if you are going to spend your hard earned money to come and race that things need to be changed for the better of the track, the club and the other racers that might show up. I admire the fact that some of you guys refuse to let it die at Joe's but the fact is there will never be any BIG races (Indiana State Series, Indiana R/C Pro Series State Race) there because the mindset of the director is to get as much out of everyone as possible for as little effort as he can put in. He will NEVER change his way of running the races so all of the ideas you submit to him in the world aren't going to do any good (pit stops for the nitro, 15 min. or more mains for the nitro), He will never upgrade the transponder system (which should be the responsibility of the shop anyway) so people can use personal transponders, and then not sticking with the rules that everyone has agreed on for the season (everyone who raced the indoor this year knows what I'm talking about... cheater motor, lipo and brushless in a brushed no lipo class in the middle of the points series) just because he's afraid that someone will not come back because he made them race fair. That is what the rules are for and the race director is supposed to enforce these rules which Gary does not. If you want to get a good turnout most weekends (20 or more racers consistently) you have to start with the director. You can have a great club but if the races aren't ran correctly your members will go else where to race. I wish you all good luck with what I am sure will be a short dismal season of the same 5 to 8 guys showing up every weekend but I for one will not be giving any more of my money to Gary so he can make his car payment. If Joe would like to see his racing programs flourish (off-road and carpet) he really needs to address this situation. The track is definitely big enough to have some big races on but Gary has choked the life out of it by not wanting to change and by not wanting to listen to what needs to be done so it can draw the numbers that could be coming every weekend. Also the track MUST be maintained every week before a race, especially this track since it is primarily made of sand, which means that the club members need to make a schedule and stick to it so that the track is ready to go for Sunday. To many times were maintenance days scheduled only to have most guys back out and not show up leaving just a couple of guys to do the work and then they get tired of getting dumped on so they quit coming out to work on it and then it just never gets done. That is the responsibility of whoever the club president has put in charge of maintaining the track if it is not himself to make sure things are getting done. You never know who will stop by to race on Sunday and there are racers out there that will travel hours one way just to race at a good track but they will also tell there fellow racers where the tracks are that aren't worth the trip, and right now this track isn't worth walking across the street to watch a race let alone pay money to race at. You guys have some big hurdles to over come if you want this track to work but after being witness to the last few years of what I guess you could call off-road racing at the Barn you have a long hill to climb. Good luck and God speed

Now that was way too long. You must be one of the guys that think your a pro level racer but can't keep your junk running long enough to finish a race let alone win one. Before you post something you should have all your facts straight and not look like a fool. We all have fun racing at Joes and thats what its all about. Not wondering where the money goes or who's building the trophys. Which seems to be a concern to you. I'am the President of the club and I spent alot of time preparing the track last year for the racers AND people like you:cry:.....

O.K. guys, maybe yesterday I got a little carried away and long winded about some things in my thread. And it will probably happen again. Am I sorry for what I wrote? No. Because these are things that need to be addressed if you want to draw a bigger crowd to the Barn. As for who I am, what does it really matter? There are other people that come to the Barn and think the same thing they just don't want to draw attention to themselves, and you know who you are. The club has the right to know where the race money goes and should want to know. Joe gets his cut for providing the property and insurance, Gary gets his cut for running the computer and the races, but the club should get a little of that also to put back into the track and maybe save up for a new transponder system, more pipe, etc... Not every club member has bottomless pockets to pitch in cash to work on the track but if you want to race than the club and the racers have to come up with the money and time to do it, and club dues just aren't enough. If Gary would settle for half his cut the club could start collecting a nice little nest egg. Badoty, believe me when I say that things will not change (although I keep hoping they will) even if they are brought up at a club meeting because these problems have been going on for way to long. And as long as you are OK with that and have a good time while you're there than that's great. It's not that I hate anything about the Barn or Joe or Gary for that matter it's just that there's always great hype towards the beginning of the season and then the bottom falls out and people get disappointed. Dodgeit, I understand that you give some guys extra time to get there cars to the track (and that is very helpful), it's the 20 to 25 minutes of down time in between rounds just because Gary wants to keep on an hour clock is what I was talking about. Just move on to the next round, get the racing done, and if you want to hang around and shoot the breeze afterwords than great but also the guys that want to go home can go ahead and leave. As far as Royz is concerned, if you think you know who I am than call me out on it. And Royz, just because I didn't win any races at the Barn last year, what does that matter? Winning isn't everything as long as you have a good time and I personally don't have a good time spending my gas money and entry fees to come race at the Barn when I know there are other tracks that put on a better program. It sucks to know that there is GREAT potential for this track but some people just aren't on the same page as the rest of the tracks out there. I do applaud all of the die hard regulars that attend the Barn and I do hope that you can get it to work sometime because the potential is there.

The next meeting of the Short Circuit RC Club will be April 12th at 4 or 4:30 immediately after the banquet. If you race either dirt or on carpet at Joe's, please come to the meeting. If this is GG, I don't want any hard feelings. I know you abruptly stopped coming to race last summer, and you have been missed.

Let me say here that it is IMPOSSIBLE to make EVERYONE happy.Yes, it is true that Joe could (and should) do a lot more to promote racing at this track. Joe is an "airplane" guy and has little interest in racing. He is near retirement age and unwilling to take money from his retirement to fund a racing interest at this facility. He does, however, maintain and insure the property for our use. We that race there have recently (last year) formed a club to maintain and regulate the use of the 2 tracks . Last Summer we put a lot of money and effort into changing the track and drivers stand. I, personally, put quite a bit of effort into the drivers stand. I must say that I had quite a bit of help from the other members of our club while working on it. With that done, we can turn our attention to the track itself this summer. We have worked out a plan for a comprehensive change in our track layout(now if the weather will cooperate).

We have a good core of people at Joe's, several hard working people who want to make this summer a success, of which I am one. Joe's has always been a family friendly place to come and race, with friendly, smiling faces, always willing to help others, and we want to keep it that way. So, please, if you have a beef, come to the club meeting and voice your concerns.
