Briggs and Stratton Model 120212 Type 0360 E1 Serial 041230 FE. How do I remove the seat on the main inlet needle? Thanks in advance for the help.

I use a pick tool like the third from the left, Poke it in the center hole then slide it out. But, Be careful not to gouge the side of the port.

These can be picked up at most auto parts stores.

Also, Make sure the little ring on one side of the new seat goes down toward the bottom of the hole.

I use compressed air and just blow the seat out, works most of the time. If I can't get it out this way then I do as Restrorob described in his post.

If you do use air to blow out the seat, do be careful to aim the seat away from yourself and anybody else, they come out like a small rubber bullet and can sting, and I would not want that thing to hit me in my eye either.... so wear safety glasses!

Thanks for the replies. On this carb the engine will only run with the choke fully on. I have cleaned the carb completely with carb cleaner. All the passages are open. However when I blow (with my mouth) into the main needle opening I can feel quite a bit of resistance. My thinking is that some dirt must be under the seat that carb cleaner isn't cleaning out, thus needing the choke on to suck the fuel into the carb. Am I thinking close or do I have a problem some where else? Thanks for all the help.

It's a possibility, but I have seen more of the seats swell shut then dirt plugging up the inlet. In either case I would certainly try a new needle and seat as I almost always replace them, sometimes that is the only part I replace when I clean a carburetor out.

Good Luck...

Thanks 30 Year!! The seat swelling closed is exactly what it is doing. I will replace the needle and seat. Thanks a bunch.

Another thing to check is the float bowl retaining screw, This is also the main jet. Make sure the ports in it are open.

I use compressed air to blow the seat out,I put the float bowl on the carb without the screw just hold it with your hand and catch the seat in the bowl, works great.
