I'm running XP PRO on an HP machine, occasionally the cursor will just start moving(creeping) across screen on it's own. I can tap or manually move mouse and it will cease.
Any ideas on this phenomena ??

Are you talking about the mouse pointer?

Mine does that with my wireless mouse, I think it may be caused by radio frequency interference.

Yipper, I've got Wal-Mart's cheapest two button serial mouse, it's a little disconcerting for pointer to start creeping/scooting acrost the screen on it's own. In my garage environ I have to occasionally clean lint out of mouse, don't know if that causes it......
No big deal, just wondered if anyone might know what might causes it.
thanks,

Well it may not have anything to do with the price you paid or where you purchased it. I have a mid priced MS wireless laser mouse and it wasn't real cheap and it does it occasionally.

Optical mice (no ball) can cause the mouse pointer to creep depending on the surface they are on. Sometimes it is because the surface isn't level and the mouse is actually moving and sometimes the surface they are on is a little to reflective for the optics. I suggest getting a cheap mouse pad if you aren't using one and see if that helps.

go to Start>Control Panel

double-click the Mouse icon.

Click the Pointer Options tab

uncheck the box that says "Enhance pointer precision".

Press "Apply" then "OK".

Follow any recommendations your computer gives you to finalize the procedure.
