I'd be interested as well. I live only about 1/2hr south of Greenville, in Sharpsville, PA. As long as the track was decent, kept groomed, and watered. Not interesting in running on a rocky, blown out dustbowl.

something to the current columbus track....look at the pics n get an idea of what it looks like....i personally think its the best track i have run in ohio...they have a 6 pack a straight away ...a couple double doubls....i like technical tracks over speed tracks......that means its more of a driver track, so a person with a 100 dollar motor can keep up with a 500 dollar motor car

I think it is great that you are looking to build a track and just have it there for people to race for free...

but I am going to ask you a bunch of questions....to see if you really know what you are getting into. It is not as easy as "if you build it, they will come"

Are you building on public or private land?
Public land opens up a whole can of worms in itself... Liability when no one is there is a big one.

Do you have ANY facilities on site?
You will need at LEAST a porta-pot.
You will need a water supply to keep the dust down and maintain the track.
If you were to get a big crowd... do you have adequate parking?

Are there neighbors close by? I would hate to see you put a whole bunch of effort into a track build only to have the neighbors shut you down because of the noise of 10 Nitros on the track and 10 warming up. Or they don't like the PA noise or all the extra traffic in the area.....or this or that... You need to talk to them. Maybe even get them to sign a consent form...

Have you approached your local government to see if you can do this?Any permits necessary? again, Hate to see you build it and they come along and shut you down.

What about a drivers stand? You should have at LEAST 24 ft. if not 32 ft to hold drivers comfortably. it needs to be at least 4 ft above the track if not more depending on track size.

What are you going to use for pipe? Coragated black pipe is the least expensive. PVC is very hard on vehicles and expensive. For a decent size track you need at LEAST 1500 to 2000 ft. With stakes to hold it down.

Have you looked into insurance? It only takes one accident and you could loose everything if you are not insured.

Between the drivers stand, the Timing and PA system, the pipe and all tools to keep the track in good shape, You could easily spend
$6-$8000 to get up and running. If you are borrowing or renting the timing sytem you could still expect to spend at least $2-$3000 on all the necessary supplies.

How much time to do you have to maintain the track? There is a LOT involved in maintaining ANY track.. but especially an outdoor one. I run an indoor track.. and one big race day can create at least 4 or 5 hrs of maintainence. Expect to double or even triple it for an outside track. And be ready and committed to do all the work yourself. If you have a group that is going to be involved... that is great. Make sure they are as committed as you and if for some reason one guy can't make it, the others will pick up the slack with out complaining. You might even want to write down your agreement and have everyone sign it. If you form a club... put EVERYTHING in writing.
ONE heavy rain can create HOURS AND HOURS of work just to get it so you can run on it again. Even if you have great weather, weeds, wind erosion, and normal rain do a lot of damage and make for a lot of work. If you can... get some LARGE tarps to put over the surface when you are not there.

I am not asking all this to discourage you from trying this.. just offering a little reality check. I am speaking from experience.. I have been operating a track for almost 10 years.

I would suggest this...instead of saying who would support me? Put a plan in place and see if it is really feasable for you to build a track. Calculate how much money you have to spend to get all the supplies and equipment. How much time it will take to build and maintain it and if you can legally do it in your area.
If you decide you can do it... set up a good schedule of practice and racing. Advertise on the web and at all hobby shops within a 100 mile radius.
Have everything in place and ready to go.. then invite people.

Hope this helps keep it real.... and you are able to proceed.

see guys you dont really have to put all that money in to a track if you put 15000 into a track you should be race karts or micro sprint or mini stocks i mean im not putting you or your track down i would never do that but you dont have to put all that much money in to a dirt track its only dirt i mean im going to have this dirt trucked from the moon its dirt that is going to be thrown around changed when ever i mean i understand that yes ill have money into it but come on let me worry about that im not trying to be mean all i was asking for some guys to give me there info on what track they would like to race on around my area thats all im not trying to make a business out of this i just want to be able to race some were close not having to drive hour away and to pay when i have already paid for my cars to go race i mean come on the why i think of it this is hobby why should you pay and then pay more to have fun with it i mean i have in been flight clubs that you pay a one time one year fee it was like 25 buck but never did i have to pay each time i flew ok so let pay a one time fee at your guys track and race all year round wait thats right you wont make any money that way right i sorry but see im not out to make money i want more people to have fun with the hobby not be like well i have to pay for the car and all that good stuff and then have pay each time i want to race we are talking about a hobby right LET IT BE A HO0BBY:cool:

I would be interested in racing but your not being specific enough. Are you asking whether we want a 1/10th or a 1/8th scale track? For summer definately a scale track would be more popular. Would there be restrooms available? Would there be a water source? Would there be organized racing with timing and heats? Would the track be maintenanced? All racers want a new place to race but the two things that will bring them back is competition and a good facility. If you are offering both things, you will have a good start.
