i have not been racing for very long so if i am behind times and this is an old trick sorry but i figured there maybe some newbies out there like me that this might help. so today when i was rebuilding my front end it came time for me to sand and polish my king pins i noticed that they are about the same size as my dremel tool attachments so i put the pin in the drelmel tool took 4" strip of 320 grit and turned the dremel on they looked awsome and were super smooth when i was done.. then i took the polishing wheel from the dremel kit off of its shaft take the screw out and just put a little bit of chrome polish in the center of it and wrap it around the pin that is still in the dremel tool and turn it on they come out super smooth and it only takes about 1 minute per pin becarefull though they can be a little hot at first. hope this helps

320 grit? Wow thats some serious sand paper. I have been sanding and polishing my king pins for years, but never used anything that abrasive. I like to hit it with 800 grit just to smooth out trying not to remove to much material. Then I go back with 2000 grit to bring to a high luster, finally taking a dipper cloth with some mothers polish and polishing them babies up! I also take a drill bit and clean up my pivot balls on my upper and lower arms. Just make sure not to ream out the pivot balls to much.

I use some wet dry emery paper.. Its like 2000 grit and it doesnt wear out.. It makes the pins super smooth, and doesnt tae away from the diameter.. I use a little polish on the paper with the best results.. If you go to gritty you will make the kingpin smaller and increase slop in the balls..

Wow! I've never used sand paper at all, just chuck em up in the dremel and add some mothers polish and and an old rag, spin em till they shine like chrome. lol, I'm so hamfisted, with sand paper I'd take 10 thou off before I knew it. Last front end took losi pins and KSG grooved pivot balls and was super smooth right from the go.:dude:

no sandpaper, you are taking material off the shaft and will cause them to be floppy sooner.just use a good chrome polish;mothers was what i used.

thanks for the advice but the reason why i had to use some sand paper first is because there were some slight gashes in the shaft so i had to sand them smooth first then polish them now that i got those gashes smooth i can just use polish from now on.

If you have gashes I think its time for new ones. And I use polish only.

Ya'll probobly know this but, you can also polish side shock shafts/pistons, center shock shaft, hinge pins, t-plate pivot balls etc.

I suggest using Losi Kingpins. Gold/copper color avaliable @ www.Lefthander-rc.com You dont have to sand them and mine are super smooth!

You are right about taking material off. I use sand paper very very briefly. I have never had a problem with sloppy front end. I have found with WT king pins that I can get away with only using 2000 grit briefly and then mothers polish. I did have a friend use 400 grit to long and wasted his king pins. So you do have to be careful.

If you use the emery like i posted above it does not take material off, it just smoths out the imperfections. Its more like a more abrasive polish. No added slop, and the smoothest kingpins you will ever see.. Ive been doing it for years..

The KSG grooved balls are the best front end option to date.. They alone make you front end smoother then ever before.. They do take a little work to make the ball free in the lower arm, but id rather have to make them fit then have them flopping around like the AE ones,,
