I'm building a track table and need a little help with what type of paint to use on the table. I'm affraid that if I use use Latex it will raise the surface to where Iwill have to sand it. I don't want to send more than the table cost to build on paint.

I always use a non latex primer like KILZ or BIN on MDF and latex paint for the finish coat.

One thing that can save you money on paint is to look for the "oops" paint in stores like Home Depot and Loews. This is paint that people returned or the mixer didn't get quite right. For some strange reason I found a lot of the oops colors were in the browns and greens, which worked out perfectly for me. I found 4 quarts of different greenish/brownish paint for $1/each and mixed then all together and ended up with a gallon of greenish color for $4 versus $20.

For 1/32 scale routed tracks, the latex paint is applied directly to the unprimed MDF; no sanding needed.

You can safely skip the primer.

Not sure why painting a table with a 1/32 track would be any different than an HO track.... But I would have to agree with AFX, in the past I use a primer first and then coat it with the color you want. Great idea about the leftover paints as well.
