We're looking at running the custom works rubber street trac tires on outside dirt oval this summer. I have some custom works foams, wheels and tires, but the foams look waaay to big. Does anyone have any experience in mounting these tires the right way. It looks like I need to cut down about 1/3 of the foam to make it fit, but that's an awful lot of waste. Any help?

Thanks

Jim

Yeah thats pretty much the case around the entire R/C Community, at that point in the tire anyway they wear really fast and sometimes chunck off so most buy new and cut right away......

Thanks Latemodel. And thank your for your service.

Actually, I meant to say that I have foam inserts that look waaay too big. They can be shoved inside the tire, but it looks bloated and rounded. I just think that before I screw up a set trying to cut them down that I'd like to know the best way to do it. Any help will be appreciated.

Thanks

Jim

most of the time we have cut them, other times we have stuffed them all in, it is a track condition call. plus on top of banding the inside of the tire to keep them from growing to much and the tire only lasting a heat to a heat and a half, we gave up on them completely and went to foams.

RJ14,
Now there's some new info. I've not heard of banding before, and what happens to the tire after a heat or two? We've been running buggy tires with success. This is an outside track with crumblies that hook up good with the buggy tires. We're just looking at something a little different. Sounds like the CW tires may not be a happy answer.

Thanks

Jim

Thanks for the reply, new to dirt and was wondering if they were 2.0 or 2.2, have some buugy tires that look huge and wondered if the CW tires were smaller

Yea, that's part of the reason we're looking at the street trac tires. They appear more scalish with the late model bodies we're looking at running. I just tore into my intimidator last night after a year on the shelf and I've got a lot of work to do.... :o

We're looking at 2 wheel drive, late model body, no side dams, 6 cell, 13.5 Brushless with CW wheels and tires. A lot there to keep the cars similiar, and under control for door to door racing.

I'd still like to know what banding the inside of the tires is...

Taping the inside of the tire so it doesnt balloon up. With 13.5 you shouldnt have much of a problem. If your running a eldora body there should be plenty of room for buggy tires. Is there any rules posted for this class jim??

In our neck of the woods when we ran them it didn't matter what happened to the banding the tires were shot after 2 heats anyway. And when the track was really hooked up and grooved it was 4 mins and both rights were shot and the left rear was basically shot. LF was the only decent tire left. The HB compounds may help early, because they are softer. As the track dries out unless all the cars are on street treads or foams the breaking up of the surface due to pin spikes will continue to happen. The B3 wheeels, 2.2 with the CW tires on them work well. cuts down on tire growth as well.

if the rest of the cars racing are running the buggy tires and you guys are on the CW's you will not be happy. if you guys want to race on loose dirt, then stick to the buggy tires. if you guys want to race on blue grooved hard packed clay than everyone at the track needs to be on rubber street treads or foams. unfortunatley you can't have both...:(
