A buddy and I got into a sports debate while talking about team owners.
Given all the victories in the past several years, would you consider Rick Hendrick (who owns Gordon's, Johnson's cars) the "George Steinbrenner" of NASCAR? My friend says that title should go to Joe Gibbs or Jack Roush.
What do you think?

to my knowledge, steinbrenner bought his championships.
jeff gordon has won 4 and been with hendricks his entire career. labonte jumped on his own, and won a championship. and johnson was handpicked also from the busch series. he could've gone anywhere. but hendricks saw the talent. hendricks doesn't go get tony stewart, or matt kenseth. earnhardt, jr made the move on his own.
it comes down to building the best organization and having the money to provide the best equipment of all teams. which currently hendricks has had 9but that too rotates in this sport). his stable of drivers has been pretty steady with gordon, johnson, mears now. for a long time labonte, gordon, craven.
i think your comparing apples and bannanas here. drivers go where they want because they think they can win, good drivers anyway. less talented drivers go where they can. i don't see drivers doing as in basebal, and putting a "for sale to highest bidder" sign on their back. most would get no response.
i don't see how any team owner is like a steinbrenner. the sports are too different.
but, i'm not a nascar fan any longer. the chase, and the "turtle"............ alias car of tommorow ran me back to baseball, football and even hockey now.
racing stinks now. i was a huge fan in the 90's and up to the chase. that was the beginning of the end. that stupid new car finished it for me. now i could careless and have about $3000.00 of nascar items i'd be happy to dump for half that. and that is money i have in them, not the bogus book values of becketts or diecast digest.
