The South-West Tour's ALLSTAR SHOOTOUT race will be May 17-18 this year...

One of the most exciting events on the West Coast in '07 with nearly $4,000.00 worth of CASH and PRIZES given away and the excitement of a 20 car MAIN event, this race generated a ton of excitement and guys are already itching to 'Do it Again'.

...to pull it off - we do need help however.

We are looking for sponsors as well as product support for this event.

We hope to make this years race even bigger and better than last years event...

For more info, please contact Joe Myers @ joe@southwesttour.com

Wow - I only started working on details for this today - and I've already had some pretty good response for potential event sponsors.

Thank you to those already showing interest - I hope to be able to promote ALL the sponsors and their products once we get them all in place.

..Nah, ours is just a small little race Rusty...mostly aimed at the guys who have supported our series over the past 7 years.

It is/will be open to ALL comers however. We will be using a 'special' qualifying format TBA at a later date.

Would be cool to run two duel races to set the grid of qualified racers before the LCQ. Would give the pre-qualified drivers a bit more track time.

swtour
02-27-2008, 12:19 PM
Scot -

It's funny you mention that...but right now the format I'm looking at is...

ALL 'pre-qualified' drivers will run 4 lap/single car qualifying.

Like the Daytona 500 - the top 2 will be locked in on the POLE and Outside front row, with an award to the TQ.

Two 'qualifying' heats

ODD number qualifiers in the first one to set the INSIDE row, EVEN number qualifiers in the 2nd one to set the OUTSIDE Row.

The grid for segment ONE of the 2 segment event would then be

4 lap TQ and 2nd
Positions 3 - 14 from the Qual Heats
Positions 15 - 20 would be from the LCQ (In the order they finished at the rear of the field)

Segment 2 will start in the order segment ONE finishes....and if any car can NOT start segment 2, alternates could be brought in from the LCQ to maintain a 20 car field in both segments.

The **Allstar** Sponsors so far - we know a couple of these guys...

NOVAK - Novak of course has been the leading pioneer in bringing us Brushless Racing, just for starters. The Novak 'ORANGE' colors have been in our cars and in our pits in the way of ESC's and Chargers for over 2 decades now... www.teamnovak.com (http://www.teamnovak.com)

ORION - Orion is another one of those companies who have been around and supporting racing for a very long time. They have always had some awesome products from the Batteries, Chargers and more. www.teamorion.com (http://www.teamorion.com)

our 3rd sponsor is a little less known to most of the world...but has some really cool stuff.

DBAnderson Machine Technologies - Donny Anderson machines preciscion R/C Car parts, from body mounts, to shock bushings, pivot balls (both for the front ends and the tplate) body screw washers, kydex bumpers, and more. He also does custom CNC work.

Racer's, this 'special' event is a 20 car race, with special formats...over 1/2 the field is LOCKED into this race by virtue of being a "CHAMPION" in the SWTour Series over the past 7 years, BUT - the rest of the field comes from a "Last Chance Qualifier" and puts YOU in the running for HUGE Cash and Prizes.

Will we have enough for a 20 car LCQ?

I will have a special HARD LUCK award for the FIRST car that does NOT make a transfer spot....

Did you look at the On-Line Flyer yet?

If not - you may want to note: The FIRST segment of the SHOOTOUT will be 30 LAPS - segment 2 will add an additional 5 laps, making it 35, which should add nearly a full minute to the race...will that "little extra" cause any concerns?

Carlton -

POST UP Some Pics.... I wanna SEE.

This years race could be very interesting with the number of drivers NOT pre-qualified and WHO is on that list.

Btett Patti currently I believe has THE fastest LIPO/17.5 run - and HE's not IN, yet there are 4 or 5 guys IN who do NOT run 17.5 as a rule, who need a lot of test time to get upto speed. (The BENEFIT of being a past champion)

With Carlton returning this year, but needing to qualify, and TONY STAPLES returning this year...but being Pre-Qualified... Steve has missed several races the end of '07 and the start of '08, but he's a multi-champion and is IN...

NOT knowing how many are going to be there to try to fight their way in - certain aspects of the LCQ are still up in the air. I have 'general' plans, but those can change depending on the size of the turnout.

Got news this week that one of our 'past champions' TONY STAPLES won't be able to make this race for the 2nd year in a row. Tony and his family are moving to a New HOME - so he'll be M.I.A. for a while again.

At the same time, we got news that an OLD R/C Racing Veteran will be making an attempt to qualify for the big show.

FRANK KILLAM was a champion 1/12th scale racer way back when - plus he's been a strong force in 1/5th scale On-Road racing for several years...but he's also an awesome VELO racer and has had ONE FAST car on many occasions.

Frank will be driving a car prepared by LARRY RUBY - who is one of the THREE fastest drivers in the 17.5/LIPO class (which is what the SHOOTOUT will be)

...it just keeps gettin' better~

Special thanks to Nic and Yusuke for getting our visitors over from Japan, I hope we are able to show them some good hospitality and some good racing.

ERIC BRUST - 2007 Allstar Champion

Only TONY STAPLES will be M.I.A. This means that 11 of the 12 Pre-qualified drivers should be locked into the field of 20. This means there will be 9 transfer spots from the LAST CHANCE Qualifier, which could also be upto 20 cars (If we have more than 20 'non--pre-qualified drivers attempting to make the field, the LCQ will be split in 1/2 and if there are 9 transfer spots then 4 would come from EACH LCQ, and the 9th spot would go to the 5th place finisher with The BEST Time.)

This is the list I have for 'possible' 'non-qualified' drivers for the SHOOTOUT.

1)Bryan Myers
2)Brian Bond
3)Arnold Brittain
4)Gary Hamilton
5)Brett Patti

swtour
05-14-2008, 06:39 PM
Scot,

I won't know for sure until I know WHO and HOW MANY people will be there

Since I didn't require 'pre-entry' this year, I only have 3 PAID and about a dozen actually confirmed. BUT - I've heard a BUNCH more will be there (But HEARING doesn't pay the bills)

I've also only actually received about 1/2 the promised Purse funding so far...and I'm hoping the rest shows before I leave on Friday MORNING. (Can't PAYOUT what I don't have) I do know everyone who has committed...is GOOD for it though...which is really cool with the people who have supported this deal.

Saturday I'm hoping we can be racing BY 11:00 (Maybe even earlier?) and with the format change on Sunday I'm hoping we can start by 10:00A.M.

Since I'm making this event up as we go along (As far as the computer is concerned) EVERY ROUND will have to be HAND Modified and each heat/race involving the SHOOTOUT classes on Sunday will have to be set up manually. This will take a little time between each round - and during those breaks the track should be open for practice.

(Just got done shaking down Bryan's 21.5 car and his NASTRUCK - they look and feel good on a 1/4 mile stretch of roadway...)

A computer set up error caused the 1st segment to be cut down to just 15 laps, but with the destruction going on, on the track, it may not have been a bad thing.

1 15/2:29.32 Larry Ruby
2 15/2:29.39 Eric Brust
3 15/2:33.14 Erik Steenhoven

18 4/1:08.36 Tom Kendall
19 3/0:38.28 Bryan Myers
20 3/0:39.23 Gary Hamilton

The second and final segment got off to a GREAT start - and the drivers had some really good battles all the way around the track. Ruby, just like in the first segment was out in the lead and looked like it was his race...then he got together with a back marker and it knocked him back to 3rd place. (It was amazing his car was still running) and it was still FLYING - as he made up lost ground and closed in on Erik Steenhoven and Eric Brust. Ruby re-took the lead on the final lap winning BOTH segments and the LION's share of the CASH and PRIZES.

Quote of the RACE: Wow....!!! That was a race to remember. Brett Patti

It's so cool when you actually have 12-15 guys on the track...that if they are ON THEIR GAME - they ALL have a shot at the win.

Some a little more aggressive, some a little more passive and everyone with their own strategy on how to get it done.
