View Full Version : Totsie Toys
JasonII 02-19-2008, 11:38 PM Does anyone know anything about this company that put out little cars? I think Totsie Toys is the name of the company. I got a few of them. They haven't been played with like my Hot Wheels and Matchbox cars were, but the wheels are pretty badly corroded. They're basically all metal except for the wheels, and there's no bottom like there is with Hot Wheels and Matchbox cars. It looks like they're hollow. I wish I could show some pics of them. Does anyone know about these?

You probably mean Tootsietoy ... collecting these can be a lifetime's adventure.
The parent of this company, Dowst, is credited with making the first die cast toy car of any kind in the 1900s.
Fortunately some of them even from the 50s and 60s were made in such great numbers that they are still easily available in US.

GeraldE61 02-20-2008, 11:21 AM Morning,
If your cars are all metal and less then 3", more like HWs size, then they were made between 1968 - to current. They have very minimal value, maybe anywhere from .10 to $1.00. Tootsietoys go back to 1923 and the older the better. Most Tootsietoys made before 1968 have value, depending on the model.

JasonII 02-20-2008, 06:50 PM These are a bit smaller than Hot Wheels cars. I've got like ten of them, and I can only figure out the year on one of them. It's a red trailer dated 1968. The others are a dark blue convertible that looks like it might be a Pontiac, a light blue car or truck that reminds me of the vehicle on the old sitcom the Beverly Hillbillies, a yellow old-fashioned convertible, the purple old-fashioned convertible, a green convertible, a dark red car that I can't figure out, a light purple convertible that looks like it was put out by Midge Toys, and another red car that I think is a Fiat. I wish I could take pics of all of them.

GeraldE61 02-21-2008, 10:26 AM The cars you listed are very common cars. They were sold in 5 and 10 packs for 79 cents. I recently sold many of those for a dime a piece at a local toy show. People hear I collect Tootsietoys and will give me boxes of those. Maybe some day in the future mint pieces might go up in value, but mint is the key word, and, most Tootsietoys had bad paint jobs to start with. Just look on Ebay under the Tootsietoy catagory for more information. There are 3 or 4 books out on Tootsietoys, check with your local library.

Nice site. The older things, like the Grahams from 1935 usually bring from $100 - $300. A lot of their pieces would not bring that kind of cash on Ebay. They have a lot of 50s/60s pieces priced a $60, those usually bring $20-$30.
JasonII 02-21-2008, 05:25 PM Thank you.
