While in New York for Toy Fair this week-end we finally got to see Young Frankenstein on Broadway. If you have the chance, go see it. It is spectacular on stage. The dialog was pretty faithful to the movie, while the songs and routines took it to a whole new level. The stage, scenery and special effects were outstanding - great pyrotechnics and lighting, especially during ther creation sequence. Christopher Fitzgerald (who played Igor) and Andrea Martin (Frau Blucher) were a riot. So was the "Blind Hermit" scene. The show was a hilarious loving tribute to the movie, which itself was a loving tribute to the original Frankenstein movies. Afterwards we got to meet and get pictures with Megan Mullally (Elizabeth) and Shuler Hensley, who played the monster. Coincidentally, Hensley also played the monster in the movie Van Helsing.
Found out Frank Winspur and family were going to see it Tuesday night. He had already seen it last Halloween, enjoyed it so much he wanted to see it again. I feel the same way!
Outside of the theater there was a door marked as the "Brain Depository" (after 5 p.m. slip brains through slot in door). Great photo op!

They turned it into a bigger production, with a section that was almost a dream sequence for the monster - like an old 30s musical that had a single tap dancer with his large shadow projected behind him. It worked.
Speaking of dream sequences, Frederick is visited by his ancestors to "join the family business". There was a visual effect during the scene that I have NO IDEA how it was done. The stage SHOOK...fantastic. Plus there was a great "Big Franky"effect that the audience loved.
Did I mention I liked the show?

I'm a sucker for old musicals. New ones too. Especially with monsters.

Like Chris said, I was there too! If you're in any position to see it, see it! You'll laugh the whole time, can't think of a much better show to see. Saw Hitchcock's 39 Steps while I was there for Toy Fair too, and that was nearly as funny. I know Broadway may not be up a lot of your alleys, but those shows are too good to pass up!

My wife is a big broadway fan. She always complains to me that Wichita doesn't have shows like this. We used to see shows like this in Chicago sometimes.

I always thought "Tea for Two" would have been a better song to have the monster to dance to instead of "Puttin on the Ritz". It's still a great movie!
