The '08 season for the SWTour Oval Series kicked off at the Encino Velodrome yesterday (Saturday Feb 16th), and you could not have asked for a MORE Perfect day.

Beautiful weather in the mid to upper 70's in Sunny Southern Calif in the middle of WINTER!

The racing was WOW So awesome too. These Brushless Motors and LIPO batteries have tightened up our series competition so much..and the guys are just LOVING the ease and competitive nature that has come along with the change.

In one race we had cars running less than .2 seconds apart at nearly 60 mph. They came off the corner stacked like Aerobatic aircraft on a manuver...3 wide - 2 deep and less than 6" away from each other....what was more impressive was they stayed like that for almost 3 full laps. (MAN - I wish we had it on VIDEO)

Congrats to

Jerry Purser - 21.5/LIPO A Main Winner and TQ (His FIRST SWTour Victory)
Larry Ruby - 17.5/LIPO A Main Winner
Richard Tompkins - 10.5/LIPO A Main Winner and New Track Record w/ 34 laps
Donn Natale - NASTRUCK A Main Winner
Tony Staples - 'Break-Out' Winner - this class was a hoot to watch.

I was really hoping we'd get some video - WOW they are doing a 333m track. That's what the old Dominguez Hills track we had was and what INDY is... the 333's are awesome. Ours is only 250m, but FAST...

Joe,Just got some feedback from the Velo site.He stated a possible in-door Velo. covered by a bubble type of structure. He stated that there's a velo in Canada using this building. At this point, construction hasn't begun as the location has also custom homes with the track(s) as recreation for the community and cyclists to ride on.They have a cycle club using a trials course/off-road if you will ,as we speak. The location needs to sell some homes to go further with the track.
With the housing market being very slow, appears it's gonna be some time before anything happens here in the northeast. Let us pray..........

...I would so LOVE to have an indoor VELODROME -

On our 250meter track, speeds are getting so fast - it's starting to drive like a SHORT TRACK.

820 ft in mid 8 second laps for the MOD class (which is 10.5/LIPO) and a new track record of 34 laps (in 5 minutes)

17.5 Lipo is running 30 laps - which is roughly a 10 second lap average (or roughly 82 ft. per second) which works out to about 55.9 MPH
