I am looking for an answer to a question I am not sure about and am hoping someone can lead me to it!
Are the truck bodies availlable today, the same overall width as the GN/sportsman bodies? And while I'm asking, are they the same length? I'm actually looking for inside measurements. Reason I'm asking is, I have recently acquired an old Gram Cracker chassis that would make a heck of a truck but it is a little wider than the normal as it used to be one of the old ASA modified cars of way back when they first were developed. I got to looking it over and it isn't hurt one bit. Only thing needs changing is the original tubular bumpers to chanel and foams and the cage needs to be shortened width wise which could be done pretty easy! It even has the original front wheel disc brakes and after cleaning the cobwebs off, it appears to be 100% complete right down to the side motor mount that includes the drive system and clutch bell!
Don't even ask what I picked this up for tonight but you can now actually call me a thief!
Thanks if you have the info!

Will, it's of no use the way it is so that got me to thinking about making it into a truck. It's really a cool car and is almost like the crackers of today except I feel it has better front end geometry. It's definitely more adjustable which is always a plus! I have looked at and looked at it and feel that bumper channels and foam would complete that part of the conversion. The hardest and most time consuming thing would be to change the roll cage to fit inside the truck cab IF I wanted to keep it a full cage chassis which I really would like to do. The down tubes in the rear might cause a problem as they house the shock mounts but then again, nothing short of using a tubing bender and tig welder to get around that!
I guess the best thing for me to do is find a used truck body to see just how much work it would be or just buy a new one and get it done! YUCK, another project!! I WAS hoping someone that had a body could measure the inside specs and pass them along so I could get a idea if it is even close or not! A GN body will alomost fit the width but the chassis IS a tad wider dued to it being made for the Lance Love ASA body!
Oh well, we'll see what happens!

Ace,
They are wider. I will measure mine tomorrow and give you a call.

Actually, it would be a good idea for anybody that is planning to run the Truck class to review page 24 of the current rulebook. The height and width rules are unique to the class.

Checked the rules out regarding the trucks and there isn't that much difference from the GN class. They ARE allowed to be a little wider in the overall width category which is good for what I wanted to do in the first place! Now it looks as though I need to get out the tig torch and go to work! Now to find a used truck body to use as a template or mock up! Ahh, I'll probably opt to buy a new one and just go at it that way!
Years ago Gary Crumb built a Cracker truck! It was cool but he trashed it after one or two races at Louie Burtons Raceway! Kind of wish I had the jig for it now! It would make it a lot easier! LOL

Ace,
My side bumpers are 18 3/4" at one end and 18 1/8 at the other.

Thanks Jeff! Are those numbers off a truck body or off the side pods of a chassis? Not too concerned with overall length from front to rear but rather side to side!

Never mind! I re-read your reply and see it says side bumpers! :)
